I practice, but I find it hard to tell people I’m a witch or I practice witchcraft because a lot of people don’t really understand, I practice more Celtic traditions due to my heritage and I find it easier to connect, and my mom also practices. She told someone in public at a store that was selling more witchy items like herbs, candles, and what not and they called her demonic! It’s really scary to talk to people about it so I chose to practice in secret, only my really close family members know. Witchcraft is so personal anyway, I appreciate this video Mint! Its important to actually know what witchcraft and spirituality is and what it’s not, so thank you! ❤

Instead of saying witch and witchraft... I say I am spiritual, I believe in the energy of the universe and the highest good for everyone individually. Instead of magic/witchcraft.... I just say I meditate and use the elements,(candles, oils, herbs, incense, etc) mantras (spells) sounds (singing bowls, bells, running water) etc to manifest what I desire in life. Smudging/Smoke cleansing can simply be explained by looking up the science behind it and how it actually is extremely effective in killing bacteria and germs in the air and can be beneficial or harmful longterm depending on the source of your herb bundles or incense. Crystals can be explained scientifically as well. Also, Tarot and Oracle cards can simply just be called your affirmation/ self care/meditation cards. ;) If you think about it, alot of people are religious and don't think anything weird of having an altar for Christ... they use blessed water, etc. (Witches use moon water.) We are not that much different in the sense of ritual and devotion. We just follow our own paths whereas religions follow a book and a priest and a very specific belief and set of rules.

This is what I think too. I have a theory that ancient connections cannot be broken. It is a way for me to make sense of my broken colonial roots too. I want to get in touch with Celtic and gaulic roots, ancient spirituality that predates Christianity. I do not want to appropriate other culture's, so I've just been going down my French ancestral lineage. Incredibly Protestant though and I just... Cannot stand the patriarchal order within these religions. Your comment has given me a lot of perspective though. Sorry for the ramble!

I think so. Other political elements, like awareness of racism means more people are persuing the ways of their ancestors, rather than the old accepted new age stuff that appropriated other cultures, mixing them together and also just the nonhierarchical structures of witchcraft and pagan faiths. Its very autonomous and not institutional like the abrahamic traditions have come to be.

Several events showed me this path. Reading "Waking the Witch" by Pam Grossman was a big wake up and I feel identifying as witch helps those of us without a voice. There is power in the ripple effect. I didn't start practicing until I was about 52, though I've been very nature centered my whole life. Practicing witchcraft makes me feel like all the pieces of me now fit like they were meant to all along.

I feel so much closer to my true self now than I ever have before….except for when I was between the ages of 4-10 when all I would do is sit outside and talk to the animals and the trees. Growing up in the Bible Belt south of the US in a DEEPLY southern Baptist family made me feel unsafe to question or experiment. Now that I’m an adult and mother of my own two kids, my practice helps me feel whole and connected on such a deep deep level.

I'm a mystic. Have been for over 40 years. It's funny, I work in a corporate environment and no one suspects a thing, outside of the few crystals and things I changed out on my desk. And I get to wear black a lot and no one questions it. LOL They think I'm just "whimsical." I'm in Texas and it's very religious heavy, in the workplace and they have never noticed I don't participate in that path. Now, on my time off, I'm flowy dresses, cauldron stirring, head crown wearing, worshipping the moon kinda woman! There are so many paths but I think most of us align with being a peace, nature, animals, calm and the aesthetic is on point and powerful!

I practice witchcraft because I've always felt more connected to animals and nature than to other people. I was raised Baptist Christian and it never felt RIGHT to me. I discovered witchcraft as a practice when I was about 12, and it resonated with me. It's been a long journey to being comfortable calling myself a witch and being open about it, but finally I'm able to embrace it and live my most comfortable, happy life. And while I know you don't know me at all, I adore you and think of you often and send my best intentions your way. I always feel comforted when I get a notification that you've posted a new video. ❤️

I was also brought up evangelical protestant and always felt like something was missing and that I was following it to please my family. Even Catholics honoured Mary but we only had masculine figures. My parents would take us to wild places with legends and ancient burials or stone circles. It was easy to feel the presences there and a bit like being taught one religion while walking around the temple of another. As others have said here, I'm a witch because I simply need to connect with nature to feel alive. Nothing less.

I think so many of us (I'm at fault here too) have the urge to gatekeep our secrets and get annoyed that it's trendy. when I think about it more compassionately, we are all innately magick, especially women as we are often deeply intuitive. What you said about many people being attracted to witchcraft to feel empowered is really important. As a teen, witchcraft helped me feel empowered and gave me a sense of belonging, why wouldn't I want a younger witch to experience the same thing? Thank you for this video ❤️

I think there's a blessing in witchcraft & magic becoming popular. I don't want to call it a trend because this is our life. I agree some do it because they view it as a trend, but for me personally, this has been a very rough yet therapeutic time for me. This openness (even if a lot of people don't truly understand the history, terms, beliefs, etc) has given me the opportunity to easily access information & find others, even if it's virtual, so that I don't feel so alone. I can't come out to my family about my beliefs & gifts that I've had since as long as I can remember. I casually brought it up as if I was talking about a friend's experience once & I know that I risk being homeless and disowned. There is a lot of responsibility that comes with this way of life, but I encourage others in a similar situation to mine to use this time to reach out & build a family/community now that there's an openness to the craft & practices.

I think so many people are being drawn to this because we all need something to connect to. Our society is more disconnected than ever, I think we've come so far away from our true roots and lost alot of what it means to be kind, compassionate, grounded humans. All of this becoming more mainstream, allows many people this feeling of being centered and connected to themselves in a way they've never got to experience before. It's all about taking your own power back, loving yourself and others around you. Being kind and in tune with the natural world. Helping people move away from this era of selfishness, technology and greed, even if just for little moments in their day. Personally, I think this could be a really good thing, so long as we stay true to the real base values of practice.

I've always felt my best when out in nature and being a Witch helps me to connect even more to the earth. The internet wasn't really a thing when I became a Witch, so being able to be part of this wonderful community now is great! There is also a big pagan community where I live. As a queer kid, I felt left out of every religious space, especially Christian ones (no hate on my Christian fam, love ya.) So I found power and inner peace in atheism. But in my mid teen years (15-16), I finally started looking inwards. Also being the most mentally difficult time of my life, I began to connect with nature. When I thought the world didn't have my back, I could always return to the trees. I felt an otherworldly connection with them, as if they talked to me as the wind blew through their branches. I couldn't make myself be religious. But I wanted to community and ritual of religion, people who felt the connection with the trees that I do. And so I found atheopaganism. I finally feel a sense of direction. I'm not lost anymore. :)

I was Christian before but none of it lined up for me, I had questions that weren’t answered as well as prayers; unanswered then I lost my father (November 2022 made 2 years ) and I began searching for something that gave me comfort…long story short; I started with laws of attraction and manifesting, and the things that gave me comfort during that time that I naturally gravitated towards that felt natural, I learned was witchcraft. It made me uneasy at first to hear it called that, because of my previous path, but I remembered that in that life EVERYTHING was considered evil, so I embraced this new path and that’s where I currently am. I realized that some of the things I do now ( like my tarot card collection) I’ve always wanted to do and/ or was intrigued by but was told it was bad ( even though they couldn’t explain how) don’t get me wrong, I have no problem with those who are Christian, it just never worked for me. I came away from that life with more insecurities and mental health issues; but where I am now, I am happy, and I feel free; like I’m no longer forcing it or being someone I’m not

Hi Mintfaery! Love this discussion. I grew up in the 60s and 70s which means I was around when "Bewitched" originally aired. From that point on, I was fascinated by witches and witchcraft. I was led to believe for a while that witches were either evil or didn't exist. Also, they were probably aliens, lol! However, as a teen in the 70s, I discovered a book called "What Witches Do" by Stewart Farrar. Though I don't consider it a good resource these days, through it I learned witches were indeed real. There was also Sybil Leek who was very public about it. Fastforward to today and witchy content still plays a part in my life. However, I've done very little in practice but that may change within the year to come. Btw, Mia Magick recently uploaded a video on the history of Witchcraft and Christianity. Though I was aware of the religious persecutions that took place, I found her take on the subject interesting. Happy Holidays to you and yours.

Happy Holidays! Yessss I loved Bewitched too! Such a great show that definitely influenced a young Mint as well. The first book I read was Teen Witch by Ravenwolf. Another that I don't really have the same feeling about today, but that made me realize that there were others like me!

I still don't understand my own story fully, but to sum it up, Witchcraft happened to me? Before I understood what religion or worship was, I had experiences I still have a hard time choosing words for, Being raised in church was a thick double edged sword of faith v.s fear at 52 I'm still healing, learning and evolving from, I haven't stepped into a church in almost 28 years, but I also never left. Although I'm still deciding and will probably never cement a true documentable theological "practice" I have realized that my life has been what is has because I was born a witch, but I would call myself "spiritually" an Alchemist if I'm being honest. What to do with, or about it I still have zero clue, but damn, learning about it is the most consistent fascination I've had since I remember being aware that I was breathing.

Even though I don't cast spells every other day, I am a witch because it has improved my life. I have grown more, I love myself more now, and I enjoy studying something I always wanted to learn, but I was forbidden to do so. My life is better, I am happier, and emotionally healthier now.

This is the BEST video ever!! I have been a witch since I was 11, and I’m 40. It was cool when I started in the ‘90’s. I honestly think if the internet had been the way it is now; this would have happened then. That “style” is cool now, so it’s not surprising. We are also having a huge shift in the collective consciousness, and the astrology is predicting that there are only going to be MANY MORE COMING OUT OF THE WOODWORK. I am in direct sales, and THEY ARE ALL “witches,” and most don’t even know it. The entire industry is based in personal development which includes soooo much energy work, and it’s very interesting to have as much knowledge as I do and see them all making their moon water, and setting their intentions for the month. I never thought I would be obsessed with a network marketing company, but I truly believe everyone should do it at some point in their life because it is so empowering and magical. ✨💛🙏

I practice because it's my purpose on earth. I come from a family of powerful witches . I always thought I was odd child, because I could see, communicate with spirits, words control, healing, and I never wanted to grow into my gifts. I will ignored my gifts and I will get past life dreams, seeing my self with other women dress in white and we will hold hands chanting under the moon, and we will rise from the ground, even fly. I would think of these dreams as nightmares until I accepted who I am spiritually and my purposes. So I choose to fulfill my purposes. May your chronic vertical be no more. So more it be.

Beautiful video as always, very wide array of reasons behind witchcraft I got I to the craft years ago simply to learn how to love myself and gain confidence. It turned into way more of a journey than that. I was raised by all women so I am a little more connected with feminine energy and it is very empowering for women and men. Always been connected with nature and animals and the elements and etc. Never knew it would help with the craft. I love being a witch I don't announce it to random people but I don't hide it. My grandmother passed away last month and doing a simple ritual to say goodbye helped me so much. The craft can help with so many aspects of life. Mainly learning to grow myself to help others much like you. You are simply an amazing person keep it up and blessed be

I live in a very conservative area where being a witch is not accepted although new age stuff is becoming better tolerated, although yoga is still devil worship to some of the more conservative here. My mother had books on Wicca in the house when we grew up, but she was an outcast in most circles, with few friends. So for me, it wasn't something to be afraid of, I had books on it to read in the late 70s, early 80s, although I never saw mom doing anything Wiccan. But she did do folky practices, which was chalked up to her and her family being from the deep south, married to and living in rural New York. I studied Wicca, which was the only type of craft back then being talked about. But my practice is mainly folk magic like my mom, quaint little charms and rituals that I do by rote, and usually couldnt explain it if I tried. Its mainly to keep house, to raise my family etc. Lately I feel a disconnect with anything spiritual because I was diagnosed with PMLE, polymorphic light eruption, an "allergy" to the sun. Hard to connect to nature when the outside world makes you break out in a rash and get sick. I'm trying so hard to reconnect. My husband, who isnt spiritual or religious in any way shape or form, got me into house plants to help with the need to garden, crystals and any stone, etc. And he knows who I am even if it's not talked about. Lately he has been getting me into deities from all over the world, classical deities, like Venus de Milo, Buffhist philosophy, and others, trying to help me connect to something. Slowly, I see that I'm trying to adapt, but its years in the making.

As a child my mothers mental illness ran us through the gambit of religions. She was a Flower Child before kids and her 1st breakdown. At times she was doing tarot & reading about witches when I was little. I always knew there was more to that. When my daughter was 14 I allowed her to experiment. She fell in love with it. I almost went headfirst with her but I had 2 other kids to think of. I didn't want to alienate them in our small town. Once I turned 38 I just said fuck it. I'm to old to care. I actually mourned my lost time of experience once I preformed my 1st spell and it worked. I'm 44 now and even though I only tell ppl I trust. I don't make it super public because there's so many young ppl gatekeeping things they have no idea about. I've had enough with rules of religions. Witchcraft is for the free spirit not judgment, labels, lies, and drama.

I’m a witch to explore my gifts. I can sense and hear spirits, and even see them sometimes. When I told my church this, they quickly called me crazy and said that I needed help. I promise I’m of sound mind, I don’t drink and I don’t smoke or take any kids of drugs. This is just how I see the world. I love this gift, as it helped my family avoid houses haunted with bad energy. So, that’s why I’m a witch.

I know that’s weird because I don’t know you but I feel a connection to you and your videos help me to feel like I’m not alone (especially when your son pops in to say hi or I can just hear him in the background, it’s nice to see other witchy mothers). I grieve for your loss of your mom. I know what it is to have your mom as your best friend and that has to be so hard. If you don’t mind sometime, I’m sure I’m not the only one here who would love to hear about your mom and who she was and hear your stories and memories of her. I also can understand if that’s too hard. Much love and light to you this holiday season. 💖

Love stumbling onto your page, and with this topic! Thank you for putting this out there. 🙌🏼 my practice started by doing what my grandma taught me, which to me was always a cultural way of doing things - not necessarily witchcraft. But, my recent research and building on my practice was triggered by my spouse identifying my ways of doing things as witchcraft. Until that moment, never considered myself a witch or my practice as such. In the end, I’m a spiritual practitioner working in alignment with the energies and elements around us, respecting and honoring my ancestors and the Divine Creator. Blessings to you in all that you do. 🪬✨🫶🏽

I'm glad to see you back on KZbin some more again. I understand totally about the loss and depression. I too am dealing with the same with the loss of both of my parents that mainly raised me. Lost them over the last few years and it still weighs heavy on my soul. But I believe they are guiding us from the other side to help us with love the best they can. I turned to the practice because it saved me from a low in life. I never aligned with Christianity, catholic, Mormon the main stuff here in the states for multiple reasons. I liked the freedom to do what felt right for me without the judgement of being in a church or something. Flying solo to follow my own heart and feeling there was yet a higher power that could help me rise above and grow to create a good life for myself and be positive instead of a pessimist is what helped me. That there was true hope things will get better if I just keep faith. Also that I was taking effort on my wishes and meeting the universe half way to help me get there. Feels more devoted than just a prayer alone asking for help.

@lisanygaard2720 Жыл бұрын
I was raised in a very religious (Lutheran) family, and my father was a preacher. I always questioned and it never felt quite right. (My BFF grew up in an atheist household and became a Wiccan. She was also a narcissist and an energy vampire, which had a negative effect on me until I cut her out of my life after 50 years of “friendship.” She gave me a false sense of witchcraft that I am now trying to correct.) I got into more spirituality in my 20s and had some experiences that freaked me out and I pulled back a bit. One of these experiences was making contact with a spirit guide. Decades later, I still feel his presence and talk to him once in a while, though I have avoided reaching out further. Recently I had been feeling like things were unbalanced in my life. Just before bed one night I asked him to send me a message with some sort of direction on what I needed to do. I rarely remember my dreams, but I woke the next morning with a strong and clear intention to delve deeper into witchcraft. I had only dipped a proverbial toe in before, but I bought several basic books and have started reading about what witchcraft really is. I made the mistake of buying some initial supplies on Amazon, which appears to have been mass produced in China. I’ve had much better experiences with Etsy. (There is good stuff on Amazon too, but I need to be more careful.) I’m so glad to have found your channel! I’m going to check out your insta as well. I have also dealt with vertigo, though mine is caused by a neurological birth defect.

I completely agree with you. EVERYONE should experience spirituality on a deep level. I have been in and out of what people would call "witchcraft" for a longtime. But I didn't feel more drawn to it than I do now until after I lost some important people in my life within the last 7 years. I've heard people say we are completely different people every 7 years and I truly do believe it. I just felt there was more out there than what I was being told so I went searching for answers. I started on this path years ago and everything felt instantly right to me which I'd never felt before. I practice for several reasons but I think the big ones are spiritual and that it always felt familiar even when I first began.
