The uniform helps to prevent bullying but just on first impressions. After the kids start to interact with each other and intuitively guess economic situations, there is where the actual rich assholes start to show their true face, mostly on the age range beyond 11. I know this because i used to be study in one of the giga elite schools and when they tryied to implement a charity program to help very poor families to get in, they got bullyied pretty hard and it got canceled quite shortly after.

Yeah, the uniforms "preventing bullying" was total BS. The kids at my school were mean as hell, but even the TEACHERS at my old Catholic school participated in the bullying. A lot of people here are saying that bullying was based on income bracket at their school, but in mine, there was a MASSIVE target on the backs of all the disabled kids, diagnosed or not. Students could openly mock their disabled classmates in front of their teachers with little to no repurcussions. Some teachers even openly admitted to attempting to get students they didn't like transferred out of the school district. A few of them were even caught falsifying test scores for students they didn't like in order to force them into failing the class. My brother only made it through middle school because my mom had to manually check my brother's scores on EVERY SINGLE ASSIGNMENT and fight with both the teachers and the principal to have his grades corrected. Thankfully, that school closed down because nobody wanted to pay their ridiculous tuition fees just to have their kids treated like garbage.

I mean, if you want an honest, fullstop answer, it's because it's taboo and people, especially teens, like to be the counter culture. It happens in every generation and is a part of human nature. It also is because it's seen as taboo in catholic schools, which just makes it all the more tempting. Basically, it's the same reason the stereotype of the nice, sweet church girl being the freakiest, kinkiest girl around is so widespread.

Nah, uniforms don't actually make a difference. Official uniforms are prohibitively expensive for lower income families which means you have to buy cheaper alternatives that adhere to dress code as close as possible. That makes you stick out like a sore thumb and - you guessed it - leads to being bullied for being the poor kid who can't afford a "real uniform."

@@madelyneation I've seen this or that you can pay them off, or that everyone gets them for free. I think school uniforms are really neat, and honestly you can often see more individuality in how people style their uniform or themselves when they have a uniform than you do when people are just wearing their normal clothes. So the expression argument is just untrue. I don't think it'd stop bullying personally, because kids will always find something to be mean about. But I don't see why they shouldn't be a thing either. I would have liked it back when I was in school

When I was in highschool, in the 1980's the Catholic school girls had no problem with insecurity (most kids didn't. Social anxiety didn't exist as it does today. Yes girls got insecure when they turned 11 - 12 - but by the time they were 14 - 16 they got over it if they were already developed physically) (Note: there was no social media but there were computer games that were multiplayer (but no online connections, the internet didn't exist)). Instead the girls would do everything possible to show as much leg as possible, skirts were hemmed to the top and some above the max hem length. A lot of girls took sewing class so they could adjust their own blouses to be more form fitting, they wanted to stand out. and they were supposed to wear close toe shoes like penny loafers, most wore pumps and a few wore heels, I even remeber a couple wearing stillettos when they were out and about. These girls wanted to get noticed.

Anyway, when they decided to implement this for our class, it was so much fucking easier, and better, than buying 5 sets of uniforms (per year) for a Mon to Fri schedule, since ironing them is a hassle. "Bullying students for being or looking poor" just isn't a trend for us. Bullying was... pretty random, preying on the weak, anyone that looks like they don't have friends, looks weird, acts weird, unique mannerisms, or even fellow bullies. In other words, it was prison on child difficulty. Yeah a good number of students were openly gay, although student relationships on campus just weren't a thing. If one was in a relationship, it's from someone outside of school. Thank goodness college is where people matured and were actually nice people. If my college friends and classmates replaced the ones in high school, I would legit have a great time. Not just good, great.

I went to catholic highschool, every class had lots of gay students in it. I remember when was in middle school and seeing gay guys that were in highschool, and there was a lesbian couple that had dated for YEARS (everybody knew they were dating, even our teachers, nobody cared lol). My friend group was a gay guy, a bi guy, a bi girl, two lesbians and two straight girls. Somehow every class had a similar friendgroup to ours. There was even a transboy who would sometimes wear the school's pants for guys during recess. Somehow with every year that went by we just got gayer, in my first year of highschool I found out that the "straight" girls of the second year were all bisexual because they started touching each other in the bathrooms (I was trying to skip class and locked myself in a stall), some of them had boyfriends and said they wanted break up with their bfs to date girls.

That is actually the whole point of them. It doesn't stop bullying. But if everyone is required to wear the same clothes, it at least removes that avenue for people to focus on. It's not just bullying either, it's also to help the kids to focus on their schooling in general. Anything to remove distractions from the actual learning.
@Merilirem
@Merilirem 15 күн бұрын
@@KhronicD Doesn't work though. People get distracted because they aren't interested in the subject, not because there is a shiny logo on their clothing. If you want to fix problems you need to fix the cause. Bullies will still be bullies even without anything to latch onto.

@@Merilirem The point is just to remove one avenue of attack though. If everyone has to wear the same clothes, no one can make fun of anyone for wearing the same clothes. It's not a complete solution, but it's at least one aspect removed.

@@KhronicD Well then if you look like a total dork in the uniform, you can't style yourself at all so it's game over in that sense. My school experience was no uniforms and no one ever got bullied for their clothes, such chill people honestly, it was a good time

Maybe catholic isn't a good religion to worship if your school dedicated to being religious just makes them stray further away from said religion.
