I've always wondered how purgatory would play into Ultrakill and I think this is a great rendition. Purgatory was never a physical place it was hell the whole time. It was merely a concept and now thanks to V1's actions it has become a reality. I like the idea of V1 realizing their mistakes but I don't think that's how it should end. It should end in a level with no enemies, no bosses, no objective, only mindless running towards a resource that has disappeared. V1's health should slowly drain as well as the stamina and when you die there will be no skull to laugh at you because there is no restarting in true death.

V1 had killed everything. And as he realized that not a single drop of blood remained, he rushed to the surface after making a pit stop at greed for his brother's remains. He scavenged the earth for alternative fuel sources. One he had supplied himself with what little power had still remained on earth in the form of wind power plants, he gathered knowledge. Eventually he stumbled upon schematics for what the humans called a "Saturn 5" but to him, it was his last hope. It had been a hundred years since he could feel fresh blood on his armor. He had to create his own feul and part for his rocket, but it was finally done. He climbed into the rocket of his own creation and strapped himself into the steat. After a full recharge and a countdown, he was in space. As he drifted through the abyss, he made a program that would activate once every 50 years made to turn him on if he was found. Around 3000 years later his systems detected an anomaly and reactivated the killing machine known as V1. Earth is dead. Blood is fuel. *THE STARS ARE FULL.*

i can only imagine this level as a walk through prelude and the layers of hell, now barren there's some reminders to what happened there (like there's an SM corpse in the prelude section, the now-barren HM arena from 1-3 in the limbo section, the arena you fought tcokm in in the lust section, the empty gabriel arenas in the gluttony and heresy sections, the crushed slab left when v2 died in the greed section, the empty ferry in the drained former ocean in the wrath section, the place where benjamin was in the violence section, etc) the tip of the day just says something like "you will be missed" the "exit" is a pit in the now empty ice field of treachery when you go in, you look up and see the pit you jumped into slowly shrink until it doesn't exist, now in a black void the title card finally shows up and your blood reserves slowly drain until you die you slowly lose your abilities to save blood; the railcannon stops charging, magnets and coins stop regenerating, saws, nails, and cores become finite, the whiplash becomes inaccessible, eventually you lose the ability to even punch and ground-slam as your stamina starts draining when you do, no skull shows up; it just says 'YOU ARE DEAD; THE WELL IS DRY"

I'm imagining V1 desperatly trying to escape hell as it collapses, and then returning to a barren earth, where nothing will live or could live. V1 has completed the mission, but now what? There's nothing left, no life to kill, no blood to consume. All of it lost to time, as V1's last blood reserves slowly drain away. This is the only way it could've ended.

My end that I always hope for is the prime soul or gabriel gives v1 some way to make it to heaven and ultrakill 2 starts from there. But i suspect the end will just be a cold bitter sweet embrace into the nothing. After gabriel dies v1 walked the halls of hell for 4 empty years. Nothing changed. Evenually he made his way back to greed. He went to the broken remains of v2, half buried in sand and sat down. He then thought the last thought that would ever be "Its as good as a place to die as any. See you soon, brother."

As v1 walked over the corpse of gabriel and entered the final hellavator, he noticed there wasnt a way down. He panicked and looked around, and thats when he realized. Hell may be empty, but heaven is still filled with fresh blood waiting to be consumed. The tunnel lights up, the hyperintelligent hell letting v1 go up to heaven as he hybernates. Then it happens. A thud. A repeating thudding on the sides of the elevator.

As cool as a concept as this is and others people idea of how Ultrakill will end, one thing has always bugged me. Many people seem to go behind the idea of V1 losing blood at the end, but, how? How will it lose blood that quickly? In game the only time V1 ever loses blood is when it takes damage, it's never seen burning out it's blood, and the fact that literally everything in Ultrakill has lore to it (like fr the low poly graphics are explained as how most machines view the world lmao) I find it unlikely it's going to end like that unless there's an explanation as to why all of a sudden we are just suddenly losing blood... Regardless, I'm not doing this to bash in ur concept, it's very poetic and beautiful, just wanted to get my thoughts out on the idea. Amazing work as always :)

In-game, the lore is that machines are fueled BY blood. The entire reason they even go to hell in the first place is becuase of this fuel for blood. Humanites extinction means there is no blood on the surface to fuel them, as such they had to find a place WITH fuel or face extinction. Some machines even physically show this like the Guttermen and their live host. The reason why there is no "blood burning up" mechanic is very simple, that would be horribly unfun to constantly be on a timer of death and would just be bad game design. Blood only healing and losing blood from taking damage is just game design, not really an intentional lore-relevant mechanic.

@@chillax2451 Yes the machines look for blood for fuel, but that doesn't 100% mean they run out of blood indefinitely, tho of course there's no way to prove or disprove this Here's how I see it personally Blood is fuel like u said, it's the sole reason all the machines are in hell yes, but I like to imagine that how their blood works is similar to how V1's blood work, in the sense that the process of obtaining blood would more often than not involve combat and would have them lose blood. For me, it's a case of fight and refuel as much as possible before you get minced and destroyed. Not only does this make sense gameplay wise, not just for V1, but possibly for other machines. Also with the case of the Gutterman, they use a live host to as fuel true, but when the host is out of blood, do they just shut down instantly? I feel like they keep whatever remaining blood they have in their system and desperately find a replacement, like a new battery Tho u may be right about the game design and lore thing. Hakita has told multiple times that the characters don't have canonical heights and are as big as they need to be for gameplay purposes, so I may be looking too deep into this But it's my personal head canon so I'm always liable to be incorrect

Some clarifications. Ftr not arguing just kinda chatting and talking about this bc it’s interesting to me 1) The machines are obviously soullesss, they have shown no traits of emotion care beyond maybe v2 taunting. So, if blood is purely for regeneration purposes, why would they constbstly get into fights? Especially with other machines. Why not just kill some husks and run in the corner. In terms of purely survival ability, this is much more efficient. Along with this, V1 is the ONLY robot shown to be able to repair himself mid fight (as seen in one of v2 entries). Swordsmachines entry literally suggests that it constantly rebuilds itself with broken machine parts 2) Small thing, but guttermans host is very much dead yes, but his heart is still visibly pumping. You can see red strands near his heart, showing he is still producing blood. The terminal hints that they are on “minimal life support” which heavily suggests that literally everything is dead apart from the only part of the body that matters. Also, Gutterman would honestly very likely just flat out die if his host dies, from multiple sly hints, he is likely super outdated, possibly being made near the start of WW1, and being the first robot to experiment with blood tech. 3) Height thing is funny and nobody is changing my fictional Ultrakill world that V1 is the shortest being in the world

Some machines seem to have traits to them, like the Mindflayer having preferences for body types and are very protective of their craft, V2 being competitive and Drones being naturally curious and observant, hell certain things can enrage certain machines at times. I like to believe they have some form of intelligence to em, but beyond that do what they do for survival's sake Also the Gutterman being outdated got me thinking, how did any of the machines activate up on the surface? I'd like to think they were all shut down when their use was done. Did they all like, activate all at once? And the Gutterman seemingly can't function without a host, how the hell did they get into Hell in the first place? Did Hell recreate them? Like how it most likely recreated the Earthmovers? Cause HOW THE FUCK would they be in Hell with how MASSIVE they are? If that's the case, are ALL the machines recreations? The last one is kind of a reach but anything is possible at this point The "why would they constantly get into fights" thing can be explained. Like I said before, the process of finding blood would more often than not lead them into conflict and competition, hence, loss of blood in the process, literally fighting to live while having them most likely settle down and take in any leftover blood to refuel while also repairing themselves manually, where as V1 repairs and refuels on the fly in combat. Husks are weak and are less of a risk, but they still can cause some damage if not careful. Also the running into a corner thing can apply whether or not they do it for regeneration or if it's a race against the clock Also something interesting to note, Hakita implied that the insides of most machines are similar to how the insides of the Earthmovers look like, as in how there's growths of flesh within em, and when u destroy them bits of organs pop out. Somethin' to think about which I find fascinating

Heaven, even if it was accessible, was doomed to fall from Gabriel’s actions. The machine pondered as it stumbles through hell. It thinks on its actions. It wonders if it had done the right thing. It thinks about Guttermen, who have living hosts to provide fresh blood, and Earthmovers, who use the sun along with blood. It thinks of its successor, its equal, its rival. As it looses all power, it thinks about itself. It wonders what could have been. What could have happened if it had been open, rather than kill everything in sight. As its eye flickers off, it cries out to the emptiness, pleading for answers. But nobody comes, for they all are dead by his hand.

Despite Ultrakill being such a fast and oftentimes silly game, the actual lore and story is nearly universally depressing, hell’s creation was a mistake and every sentient being is awaiting death. Regardless of exactly how it happens, Ultrakill’s ending should be a bittersweet and bleak one. V1 and Gabriel, both slowly dying for different reasons, understands and accepts the other after destroying hell, waiting for their respective deaths.
