My Dog 'roosts' as we call in Australia for about a 30 seconds after each poo...He taught my Sister in law's dog Rio to do it as well as he never used to do it until they met...I swear he's like a roto tiller..

My rottweiler just started doing this at around 2 1/2 yrs old. I remember my old rottweiler when i was a toddler used to do this too. Both grown when i noticed it. Why do only the adult dogs do this and how do theyknow when to start doing it?

The “pheromone to claim ground”explanation doesn’t seem to fit. Why would there be a drive to release pheromones (by kicking) after defecating?

My pug does power donkey kicks. Terrible. Stones fly 50 ft. Pot holes all over... How to I stop her?! She's deaf too so I can't just yell a command. Oh and she'll kick up a dust storm. Cover you and herself in dirt!

I don't mind people walking their dogs on my grass by the road and letting them pee on it as long as they pick up the poo which they do mostly. lol I have seen them doing the scratching. Now I know why. I always thought they were just playing. They probably do it for that reason too. lol
