Hes still a pretty big draw in the midwest, he wrestles a lot for a local promotion called RCW and has a wrestling school in Indiana. He also uses his Impact ties to get a lot of impact wrestlers to wrestle for RCW.

I live in NE Indiana and he does SO MANY local shows for them. He could’ve let his stint in Impact swell his head but that’s not the case. Very humble dude who still puts on a good show.

The reason why there was inconsistencies as far as when he was booked etc was because he was the reigning JCW champion at the time and under contract to both companies, he was basically a part timer in GFW/Impact.

I got to meet Kongo back in 2014. I met him at a wrestling show in Indiana where his (then) wife was selling his merch. I think at one point we used to work for the same promoter. (a dude named Rigo.)

Steve (Kongo Kong) is a super nice and funny dude. I met him at a local indie show where he just did a run-in and signings/pictures. Dude was super down to earth and joked around with us a lot.

I agree! I met him when I was helping set up the ring for BCW shows. Super wonderful dude, he kept asking if we were all going to the party afterwards and helped take down the ring and clean up the arena.

All in all I agree with you on Kongo Kong. He definitely surprised me with some of the moves he could do. That hurricanrana was unexpected. I'd like to see him on AEW. Maybe have another match with Cage. Storyline against Team Taz.

Wow! Kongo looks and works brutal and I mean that in a good way. He’s huge and has high impact moves but you can tell he pulls his moves way back to not hurt his coworkers. Good stuff 👍🏾

Just saw him wrestle twice in the last month. Super awesome guy to meet as well! I will say on the promo side of things, his voice just isn’t “ monstrous” it’s a bit softer than you would want from a big guy like that, so it’s good that he always had a manager.

I actually got to see Kongo Kong and take a picture with the man at an indie fed called the Funkdafied Wrestling Federation. He was doing stuff no one else there did and it was awesome. I'm sad not many people know him.

It's because of how bad the product was at the time. 2017 was a shit year for Impact! Probably the worst year in history! 2018 was a major turn around with the new direction of the product.

@@onuoraawesome7777 2007 -early 2008 was pretty good too in my opinion, though i stopped following before the Hogan and Bischoff came in and tried to turn it into WCW 2.0 and only came back in 2016 when they were pretty much waist deep in the dumps.

As someone who never watched a lot of TNA, especially after Hogan & Friends took over, I kinda regret not catching this guy. Dude can move and has that image of a good upper mid-card level. I could see him do well enough in WWE, at least. Don't think AEW or ROH needs him. Impact could have done more with the dude.

Really? I think it doesn't look like it hurts at all and there are 2 reasons why: The first is that his legs touch the ground before his body comes into contact with his opponent and the second is that he rolls over after landing. A wrestler his size shouldn't be doing highflying moves every match, let alone having such a move as a finisher.

The roll over is what I like actually. Like he is hitting them with such force his body literally bounces off of the guy. As far as his legs hitting first I think is him needing to protect the opponent a bit. I never noticed it but since you mention it I'm gonna go back and research it

I actually know Kongo! He actually has a wrestling school in Indiana and a lot of the talent that I have gotten to work with on the Indy seen in my area he’s a very big draw. I actually saw him in a match and one guy was refusing to sell his punches, it was at that point he knew he screwed up, Kong was angry and ABSOLUTELY grab him off the top rope and did not soften the drop on a choke slam. Then in the back he was pissed and he is a nice guy, amazing professional but was scared along with all the other guys. Thanks HAWK!! You are the SHUV IT MAN, pints on me would be a honor.

I stopped watching Impact for years. Just watched this video thinking "Oh great, typical big dude with limited moves." Expectations was going low for me, but at the end, I was impressed. I did wondered why he wasn't pushed more, he could have been the next big monster heel. Looking down the comments, I can see that his commitment with JCW is the reason, which I respect a lot. Other than that, damn, he impressed me a lot.

i actually got to witness Kongo Kong live before he was in GFW and impact he was actually had a little less weight then he did on Impact he was still a big dude though, he also did a couple moves that he didn't do in here, The guy is actually capable of a Moonsault, that was his finisher on the indies or at least where i saw him

Always nice seeing a new face on Ring of The Hawk. I think with more consistent booking and a sense of direction, Kongo Kong coulda done even better. Btw, anyone know if Kanyon had less then 30 matches in his WWE run? I’d love to hear the Hawk talk about him.

I think the delays in Kong's appearances might be (in part) due to the Taping Schedule. They'd bulk tape Shows and some guys wouldn't/couldn't work multiple matches per Taping.

yes, at the time they 4-6 shows in one set of tapings over 2-3 days. He should have featured more than once a set. Unfortunately, if you miss noe set the you are not on TV for at least 4-6 weeks

Yeah it's in Bluffton Indiana in a storage unit, he trained a friend of mine who still travels and wrestles. Steve is a great guy.

5:30 Braxton Sutter - as Pepper Parks - was in 2015's _Gut Check_ PPV. Granted, "Gut Check PPV participant" isn't a gimmick and as a _One Night Only_ PPV it wasn't the train wreck of the proper 2012-13 _Gut Check,_ but he existed in TNA pre-Anthem.

Kongo Kong is awesome! He has one of the most underrated top rope splashes I've ever seen! A guy that size who's that athletic. Good thing Impact did something with him other than putting him with Laurel Van Mess.

I think he was overlooked because he was in Impact of the time where nobody really cared about the company. Like i was sick of the company at the time for the legal issues being constant. Its not his fault at all just the company just never stood out and without AEW partnership id dare say it would still be a little bit lost
