I'm so happy to see someone talk about this game! Dark Cloud is probably my favourite PS2 game. I only had access to it on the demo disc for ages and used to replay constantly. I eventually got the actual game and playing through it and getting to parts of the game i never saw before was amazing. I kinda got out of game a bit for a while and Dark Cloud is the only reason i never sold our PS2. Dark Cloud is the only PS2 game i just couldn't bring myself to get rid of. It's the most charming game i've ever played, i love the atmosphere, the music. I could just start up the game and run around for the sake of it, not even progressing through the game, just taking in the vibes. All the mechanics for this game are great and the gameplay loop is super addicting. I would love it if Level 5 ever remastered this game or brought back this franchise in some way. Such an incredibly underrated game.

I'm dropping this comment to share why this game is so special to me. Growing up, I lived in a lower class, low income house. It was me and several other cousins living with my grandparents and respective parents. Every friday, my grandfather would give my cousins and I some cash so we could go spend it whenever. My older cousin (who is like a brother to me), and I. We pitched our money together so we could head to a local video rental store that also sold second-hand consoles and games. We were able to get gems like the MGS series, Resident Evil, and this special little title right here. The moment my cousin and I played this, we were hooked, spending countless weekend nights staying up to 100% a village, or watching him progress farther in the story. Sometime in 2007-2008 christmas year, my mother worked so hard to get me my first ever PS2. Yeah, the 360 had already been out, but I could care less. This meant I could finally enjoy this game on my own time. With my old save too! The first time I ever beat it officially, I was awestruck. I continued to play it over and over, so many times I lost count. When I heard it would come out for the PS4 (and 5 later on). You bet that was the first game I got as soon as I got my ps4. This game is more than just a fun little JRPG. This is something that brings so many warm memories, like a warm, cozy cup of hot coco on a cold winter day. I can't express enough how much I love this game.

Dark cloud was my fist ps2 game ever played. And OMG hand down the second best ps2 game, the first of course being dark cloud 2, love them both so much. Keep up the amazing reviews 👍🏻

I plan to finish work on the platinum for this game, I'm using the broken dagger attachment to get the ultimate weapons early so I don't have to slog through areas.. (You can't use ultimate weapons on the killer snake, though, you need a scripted weapon the Treant gives you. Learned that the instant I hit the first button and that ultimate sword snapped in two. XD)

Dark Cloud was one of my favorite PS2 games. I recently started playing it again on ps4 with my ps membership. This game is so nostalgic and fun time.

This was such an iconic game especially for being on that PS2 demo disc! Took me until the PS4 release to finally play the full game haha it's such a great game.

This game was my entire world when I was like 5 I would play for hours, some time ago I asked my uncle if he would let me play the game on his old ps2 again and he told me that it was just a demo lol but that only proves how awesome that game was, I would literally spent hours playing the same first 20 minutes of the game over and over and wouldnt care!!

This is the first game I bought for my PS2 back in 2001. Got most of the way through it, but couldn’t finish the Gallery of Time because my weapons were not upgraded enough to deal with the enemies.

This game is realy unique, though it shows its age. If you compare this to more recent Level-5 games like Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom and Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time, it makes you wish they rebooted the Dark Cloud series on modern hardware.

They made two of them but the first will always hit no matter when i play. the music, locals, and good set of character variety. the grind wasnt all bad cause the gameplay was addictive as hell and the story was good. only thing wrong is that it didnt have voice acting or a music toggle for volume. imagine a remake not exactly a nex gen experience but more specifically like ps3/ps4 type remakes that would expand on the world and clean up the visuals think ratchet and clank

Love Dark Cloud 1&2. Also love Rogue Galaxy which was supposed to be Dark Cloud 3. If you did not play Rogue Galaxy you should definitely play it. It’s an underrated PS2 gem.

Serious Nostalgia! Its a shame Sony didn't keep up with making these. Based on the strength of the first one it could easily have been one of Sony's mainstay franchises!

Any idea if there is a way to emulate it onto PS Vita? I've gotten to the final boss but haven't ever been able to beat him. Wanting to give it another go but was hoping to play mobile with it.

I wished my PS2 close tray didn't go close automatically at random. I stopped using that PS2 since my Dark Cloud's disc is almost broken. It is fine condition, but that made me not touch my PS2 anymore. Since then, I missed playing Dark Cloud. I also have the sequel as well.

@GenesisVII Yea, I might have to get it digitally on my PS4 Slim. I would gladly play them again. Xiao was my favorite character growing up. She also helps early playthrough as her slingshots only take 1 WHP (sometimes 2) each time you use it.
