One Punch Man season 1 exploded on to the anime scene due to its amazing animation and out of this world fights that was animated by studio Madhouse. One Punch Man fans were super excited to see a season 2 to OPM and we finally got it after a 4-year wait and when the trailer dropped for One Punch Man season 2 fans noticed something was a little off. The main cast returns like Saitama, Genos, and others but they just look as polished as they did in OPM season 1. So let's take a look at what is going on behinds the scenes with the studio behind One Punch Man season 2 and seeing why it's so different from season 1 of One Punch Man.

I'm sorry, but the punch that killed elder centipede was amazing! I feel people complain too much, and forget to look at the good stuff. I felt the 2. season was funnier, better story, awesome characters (love King, Garou, Suiryu, Metal Bat, even Charanko is good in this season) and Saitama actually develops!

They released a tweet with episode count march 31, almost 2 weeks before it started. Several websites made posts about it, so you had the opportunity to get info if you tried!

*That's cuz after the Boros battle they went to try and bring more to the story which leads to them making build up and cliffhangers in the chapters or animes case the episodes. Last season and pre Boros every chapter had a beginning and end and that carried over to the episodes not leaving any expectations of what's nexts you just get it when the next episode aired instead of the cliche tease for the next episode.*

Saitama became preachy in S2 for some reason, it's weird. In S1 the dialogue was not too long, not too short. In S2 there are long stretches of dialogue that could've been condensed in 3 sentences. And they definitely cut action scenes from the manga. Like in the tournament, Saitama was supposed to break the other half of the fighting arena but they didn't show it for some reason.

Why? The key animators they had came to work because of the director Shingo Natsume. All they had to do was wait until he was free to do season 2. Then we'd have the most amazing fights of Garou and Saitama vs Suiryu in incredible quality.

This is just what I think but... Pros of S2 -More focused story -More interesting characters(King and Garou in particular) -Better character development(Saitama became more than just a jokester character.) -Interesting character story. Cons of s2 -Disappointing animation. -Genos became too sidelined(lacked development) -Music is a little off on some scenes. -Boring action scenes -Less humorous and witty. -Saitama gets a bit sidelined to the point of not being the focus of the season anymore(this is arguable since this is supposed to introduce important characters of opm.)

In the manga from the end of season two to now saitama is in about 40% of the story. If season 3 follows the same pacing as the first two seasons he will barely punch anything. Most of the fights are other s class heroes

Lol. The animation is following the flow of the manga. Each episode combines about 10-20 chapters of the manga. In the manga Saitama was popping in and out of a lot of the scenes and wasn't in a lot of the chapter. He won't have any long fight scenes until he fights the monster form of Garou and uses his serious table flip and serious headbutt to beat him. Season 2 will probably end with him in a 2 second fight with elder centipede, where he kills it with a single serious punch.

I think it has to do with the webcomic. I went down the rabbit hole for more content and Saitama is placed in the background prob because he's already displayed his strength. At this point it feels like the other characters deserve to have an intense battle rather than Saitama 1 hit K.O. everything. It wouldn't be very climatic. He has his moments unbeknownst to literally everyone else and it builds tension for the reader to want him to be discovered, but that's about it

@@TSURUGl Nah, the ToP had some insane animation, many of the best shots were made by animators that went on to make the DBS Broly Movie, its just before that the animation was subpar and low quality, See animators Yuya Takahashi, Naotoshi Shida, and Naoki Tate work in the ToP Arc for best examples, plenty of more great animation even beyond the three of them

@@TSURUGl Honestly I'd really only say the first few arcs had bad animation, DBS is an anime that is aired WEEKLY mind you, (which is commonplace for weekly anime to have bad animation at times) and DBS' production was rather strained compared to much other weekly anime, as Toei gave each episode roughly 3-6 weeks of production time which heavily reduced the quality of episodes early on, that changed once the Goku Black Arc had concluded and Toei had begun to get a handle on scheduling for DBS and therefore resulted in some of the best animations in the Dragon Ball franchise since the Buu Saga of Z, it's very unfair to compare DBS production to that of a seasonal animes, in the end, DBS has done rather well for a weekly aired show actually has better animation that you think, many examples of these stellar animations exist and can be found scattered throughout the first arcs even if you look hard enough for it

The reason he disintegrated is because Saitama wanted to disintegrate him so that there would be no damage to the city, that's why he used a serious punch. King literally explains this in the episode.

It often feels like they put too little effort into consistent style and don't care about some of the animation, But the fight scenes this far has been good enough, I especially liked it when Garou counter-punched Tanktop Master in the face, The animation beat and force felt incredible

Saitama get’s a new “rival” (sonic) Saitama fights strong alien. That’s pretty much all the real important things in season 1. I’ll lost what happened in season 2. We get a new protagonist garou (he is the protagonist, but a villain). Garou beats and gets beaten by a bunch of heroes, and makes loads of progression. Saitama gets to be known more by more significant people The monster association is revealed Reading those, it doesn’t seem like there’s much of a difference, but let me tell you, season 2 made way more progress in terms of the story than season 2. And I know because I read manga and web comic of opm. All of this leads to very huge events. Season 2 was basically a build up on a very huge sequence of events. Season 2’s story was way more significant.

@@ingiiiiiii Bruh JC Staff had literally no other choice but to end the season on the elder centipede fight, due to the way the storyline and arcs are structured in the manga. Season 3 (if adapted right) is gonna be fantastic just from looking at the webcomic alone. But we still have to wait for Murata to finish the current arc in the manga, before season 3 is made. Besides, to simplify OPM season 2 to just "Badbois appear. Garou smashes. Saitama doesn't smash, but he will" is disingenuious to say the least. Shiryu's newfound appreciation for heroes after being saved, the corruption and incompetence of institutions like H.A (and their impact in society) and everything about Garou and what he represents are all great highlights of season 2. And all of this is just setting up the themes and plotpoints that will come into fruition in the next arc. (Like seriously, the payoff will be more satisfying than even Mob Psycho S2 IMHO) TL:DR Don't be so quick to judge, we're only getting the buildup to a much more greater payoff later on.

Just look at Attack on Titans and Mob Psycho 100, they are clearly more superior version compared to their manga counterpart. Not saying it works all the time, but clearly Madhouse animation team knew what to do to honor the source materials while at the same time adding extra PUNCH into the animation because even they were afraid the show would not live up to the manga. Even if JC Staff is sticking to the manga panel to panel, they still cut out some stuff to save budget and time which felt so rushed.

In the beginning I was thinking the same, the art was good, the style was alright, I didn't even notic the shiny artstyle. But the fights just left me disappointed without even thinking about the animation being bad, I was just like? Huh? What happened, why don't they show what's happening. It's like watching a football match on TV and the Camera Man just cuts to the grass where a pidgeon is chewing on a flower, and later we see the replay in 3 still images, the scorer standing there with his leg stretched out backwards, the ball in the air and the ball in the net, no goalie jumping, not the angle of the flying ball, not even the impact of the foot on the ball. And then afterwards he says, wow that was the fastest shot ever recorded. You know what it is supposed to be, but you don't feel it.

There are some shows that really need impactful animations. I would argue that shows like death note and OPM need strong animation. It shows the audience that the characters matter. Without punchy visuals death note would be a show about some kid writing in his diary. With good visuals those writing scenes impress the audience. OPM needs great fight animation to show us that saitama is powerful and cool, and not a loser. If all the audience sees is humor moments, and then cheap animaton it doesnt make saitama seem impressive. It makes him seem like a boring joke. In season 1, the contrast between the silly saitama and the powerful action hero saitama made both halves of the character come across clearly.

Having a great script and story is one thing, but bringing it to life on camera is another. It may still have a compelling story, but great animation and execution does indeed makes a difference.

I have so many issues with this season. 1. Low quality animation. Some cuts in these episodes brought me back to the worst episodes of Naruto. 2. Lackluster VA performances. Why does Saitama voice suddenly drop down to a deep baritone for the whole season? And what the hell was that anouncer at the Martial arts tournament? 3. The sound design is horrendous. All the sounds is processed through the same low passed distortion filter, which just results in a mosh of landslide sounds. 4. The editing. Almost all of the high notes just misses by a mile. I knew this season wouldnt end on a high note because the source material is still building up to it as we speak, so the odds were always stacked against this season. So my expectations were lower. BUT god damn, this was amateur hour. What the hell happened?

One Punch Man 2 wasn’t the animation’s fault. The first arc was about Saitama. The first season was all about him. But since it’s over, the One Punch Man is mostly about the Hero Association and Monster Association. And they’re focusing on Garou Arc. As a OPM fan and read all the chapters. It gets better and most likely we’ll get more information about Garou and Saitama in season 3 and we’ll see Saitama’s true power in season 5 or 6

Its also the schedule. The amount of time the animators. Have before the deadline is really the biggest deciding factor. Mad house had an average budget but had a generous amount of time.

A lot of people are saying "the story's still great" as if that's an amazing achievement by the production staff...The story's great because of ONE's stellar writing from the manga. You can't give that point to the anime's production staff.
