This is something I need to hear every now and then, i need to remember why i make music and for me it's just the joy of making music. I'm not chasing for any real success, my success was releasing 3 tracks across most streaming services recently and that alone was scary as hell, to put something out there, but that act alone has given me confidence to release more music even if no one listens to it, that's ok because I did it for me.

Hey bud. I relate to your comment so deeply. 2 years ago, I took the leap and self-released two songs that I had been sitting with for around 3 years prior to that. It was so scary to think that these songs will now exist in the real world. But at the same time, this was the very reason why I started making music in the first place - to leave a legacy that will remain to remind people that I once lived and created in this world

I often find I work on a track, am happy with the sound, but then get discouraged when it does not sound as “professional” as my reference tracks. This video was so helpful for me to re-frame the gap in my mind between amateurism and professionalism. Thank you for this, sincerely.

It’s a good thing that YT recommended me this video, because I’m stuck with wanting my tracks to sound ‘professional’ and trying to understand genres. This video reassured me that my naivety does work in achieving a unique sound - a sound that’s mine, unlike the others. Sure, I need the basic fundamentals down so I can get a good-sounding mix, but there are times where experimentation or aesthetics can allow for a break in the rules. And I don’t necessarily have to stick to genre conventions as some of my favorite songs are genre fusions. And the deal with popularity is true - there are times where you have ‘pro’ songs that don’t get as much attention, but then you got the ones where it’s ’for the memes’ or whatever, and they get millions of views. All in all, just worry about making your own music and take inspiration from others and make it your own. You can stick to a genre you like, or combine parts of other genres. Sound design whatever and put them in your song; you might get a sound that’s yours. Who knows, maybe you might become the next big hit.

More people definitely need to hear this. I certainly did no more than a year ago. I kept getting frustrated at how no labels were interested in signing my tracks because in my eyes they sounded great and my family and friends would agree, but in reality they just weren't good enough! Also love your take on naive originality, had never heard the phrase before but I like it. So many producers listen to other producers to get ideas and are constantly trying to replicate a certain sound when really you should be trying to INVENT a certain sound. If you sound amateur, keep practicing, you'll get there 😊

I have been invested in music production for close to 4 years now -- from playing around with soundfonts on a music notation software to full tracks in my DAW, and not a singular video I have ever watched in my journey so far has ever had such an enormous impact on my mentality when it comes to approaching the quality of my own tracks. By far, this is the highest quality channel in terms of music production, and you are a godsend to music producers internationally. The words 'Thank You' do not even begin to convey my gratitude.

I was one of those people on the stream asking where I could submit a track for some feedback from you and your community. However the response i got, along with what's been said in this video is probably the best feedback i could have got for me at this time, as I feel it's important to be original and naive, there are many strengths in that. I look at it from another angle that it may help to hone my craft as a unique individual as everyone is different, and a couple people saying the same thing or how they'd do something, but different demonstrations of that one thing could lead to further knowledge of getting to the end goal for that certain objective, ultimately resulting in a better outcome, knowledge and growth; And also networking! Great job as always & one of the best videos from you @Bthelick !!

I've just retired my main sound of the last 7 years (over half a million streams, signed multiple songs to labels) but I was fed up of that same sound and so many of my peers sounded similar so I'm currently trying to come up with something fresh and it's so hard but I've got some great ideas, it's just executing them.

What? Do you realize how bad half a million stream (when you're not making 100%) is in 7 years? It's like, absolutely awful, you're in the bottom 1%. Thank fuck you smart'd up and chose a better life. That's really, really bad. I started a project 4 months ago that has already 5 doubled you. I've done what you're doing now over 10 times in my life. I sound like an asshole, but you're doing the right thing. However, ideas are absolutely bullshit. Tell me your best idea.

I started getting caught in the trap of trying to create what the commercial house/EDM world was doing - to engage some labels obviously for the purpose of a little success, but was not happy with what I was creating, I mean it sounds ok but im not feeling it at that level. For me its more a confidence thing. I cant really mix to be honest but I can create tracks all day long but sometimes mentally get caught up in what I should or should not be creating. Ive always liked to create music from the heart that sounds a little different/quirky Im so glad I found this channel as it has brought my confidence back and the way I view things if anyone would like to collab or co-create im all ears 😊😊

What is even professional sound? How do we define it? The idea and arrangement are undisputed kings of good song, they definitely need to stand out but even then, it needs to be supported by very solid sound design and competitive mix. If either of those are not checked, you are not going to sound to your potential and this can definitely damage your potential. I for example (and many other DJs & producers) judge the whole package. I’ve heard many really interesting tracks with proper ideas in it, but the mixdown and sound design was not good enough for me and so I pass on those tracks. Other times you hear a really polished but boring track and that gets a “no” as well. You need to look at it holistically.
