Thanks for watching, Brian. My favorite sounding whistle tenders are the pre war and early postwar models with the cast metal whistle chambers instead of the plastic. They are a bit louder and slightly different tone.

How do you run the wires from your transformer to the tracking to make the train whistle? I have that attachment on the transformer or you can make it whistle how do you do the wiring to make it?

Hi Warren! Does any part of the armature shaft ever need lube? My tender sounds sorta dry with a slight chatter sound.

Yes the armature shaft does need a tiny bit of lube. Not so much that it gets on the copper bits of the armature itself. There should also be a small washer/bushing at the base of the shaft. I often take that off, oil it, wipe off the excess then put it back on. The chatter sounds like something is out of alignment, a broken blade, or something else obstructing the impeller.

I'm wondering why you put grease on the wheel hole. I've never seen the wheels roll independently of the axles? 🤔

Another great and useful video! I have a whistling tinder (6466) that doesn't whistle. Every is cleaned and spins as it should. I can manually blow into the whistle box and it will whistle. Any suggestions?

Hmm. There are some folks that noticed the armature spinning the wrong way, and that has caused the whistle not to work. There are schematics online where you can check the wiring to make sure its hooked up and spinning correctly. Or if the pickup rollers are shot, they might not be getting enough power to the motor to spin it fast enough.

What gauge wire would you use that is connected to the trucks ?

I use 22ga. stranded. Not solid. Stranded wire allows for more flexibility and less likely to break at the solder joints after lots of use.

Have tender from 671 engine. It whistles all the time even with switch open. My wiring must be wrong but thought I followed your video. Stumpted!

Hey James, thanks for watching. That sounds like there's a short somewhere that's activating the relay which runs the whistle. Or the bottom tab on your relay is bent upwards meaning it's always making contact and running the whistle.

Thanks for getting back to me. The contacts aren't touching. I can disconnect the power wire from the two coming in from the rollers and it stiff keeps whistling. I then disconnected the wire on other side and it stops. I agree with you it is grounded somewhere but I can't figure it out. Should be simple.@@warrenmuzakpostwarguy4331

If the contacts aren't touching and the whistle motor is spinning, power is going directly to the whistle motor bypassing the relay altogether. Yet, you are saying you disconnect the wires from the rollers and it still get power? While its on the track? Im not sure how its doing that. @@JamesSmith-om4lk

I figured it out!! Wire coming from the whistle to the relay was soldered on the ground side and not the second post of the switch. While in there I followed all your cleaning up of rotor and whistle. Had already done the trucks and the middle rail roller. while at it I did 4 more of the cars trucks. Really appreciate your time and ground suggestion really helped. Getting ready for grand kids on Christmas. Dad gave me my set around 1951 0r 1952.
