For me? It is a team battle game mode where one player selects more than one fighter, and has to play different fighters for losing rounds or getting knocked out. It's a shame most fighting games like Smash Ultimate, SoulCalibur II and most Tekken games don't use this rule as the tournament standard, but I am down to see more team-based fighting games in the competitive scene.
@brucenatelee11 ай бұрын
I love seeing Tekken Ball coming back, but even more shocked that Street Fighter 6 did it first over half a year prior. I like alternative game modes. Fun is why I game, not just dick measuring. I personally prefer modes that still use the fighting game system, like Tekken Ball and what SF6 did more so than, um... bowling. I liked the 3D Mortal Kombat era stuff, like the chess and kart racing. Then there were the modifications in Mortal Kombat X (like dipswitches from SF3:TS or CvSNK2). This made the games fun. Unfortunately, online is "all that matters" to the FGC now, which makes it less about exploring what fighting games can do and just pure competition. I like modifiers, but games like MvC3 had it and it was for online only and not offline as well (a card system, I think). Imagine playing those tower modifier from MK11, but in multiplayer. Broken, obviously, but hell, hilarious as fuck. It's like gaming lost the point of just being fun. Everything is too serious now, even the genres themselves.

This is especialy important when these little FUN games (that last bit is important) unconsciously teach you fundamentals, like how hit the targets tests your knowlage of how to traverse with your character and move proprieties, homerun contest teaches how damage affects knockback, and on top of that it has an element of competitiveness between players, leading them to try to improve on those aspects on their own and experiment Even in my game i aim to add unique minigames, one of them is a fight against a mosquito, its tiny, moves around a lot and hits as weak as a real one, it will easly make new players figure out where each move hits and how fast/slow it comes out

Thanks for talking about this. Now Im gonna vent for a second. Here goes: Ahem, WHERE ARE THE EXTRA GAME MODES FOR TEKKEN 8? We have Story Mode, Arcade Quest, Online Mode, And Tekken Ball. That is far fewer than Tekken games used to have. Tekken used to have all of this: Story Mode Tekken Force Mode Survival Battle Team Battle Tag Battle Tekken Bowl Tekken Ball Combot Tuning A Deep Customization Mode Why does Tekken 8 have LESS content than Tekken 3, 4, 5, and 6? Maybe new members of the development team never knew the innovative charm of the older games and can't recreate the magic of the older titles. This goes for not just Tekken but other games too. Games used to have many modes for single players and co-op players. Now it's just 3 things. Story Mode, Online Competition, and The Battle Pass. Games used to be designed by people to charm others. Now they are manufactured to extract money from wallets. It's a shame. Thanks for reading my rant.

It is by FAR the funniest joke I think any fighting game has every had.

Idk, I think fighting games are ok being just fighting games, and if you wanna change gameplay, you can just install other games... And if players really want to play their fav characters in something else, maybe it's just better to make a whole separate game to fulfill this purpose, like BlazBlue EE I don't buy a game expecting it will get me hooked all year long, but the thing is, that's right what live service aims for, so pretty sure there're gonna be tons of alternate minigames in the upcoming big fighters.

Most of the time, people really don't play the alternate game modes. So the people that do want them oftentimes just can't find anyone to play with. That's probably the main issue. In DragonBall FighterZ there's the Arena which is directly in the middle of the entire hub. It's huge, it's massive and everyone has to run around it just to access the casual/ranked matchmaking. Yet even on peak hours, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone playing arena matches unless they just booted up the game for the first time or extremely new. Even as someone with over 1300 hours in the game, I still try to play arena matches and maybe I'll find 1 person. And that person is likely to quit because they may not be as experienced as I am.

Stuff like what was mentioned in this video is why I quickly dropped King of Fighters XV even though I was super excited for it and pre-ordered the damn thing. When I saw "Mission Mode" I was expecting it to at the very least contain Time Attack and Survival like it did in XIV, but nope, just boring Trials. Granted they added a Boss Challenge mode, but it's a novelty more than anything. You fight a boss that's trying to simulate the "SNK Boss Syndrome" from the arcade times, but after defeating the boss and unlocking said boss, their costume and stage, there's very little motivation to return to that mode. It's essentially akin to a mobile gacha game event. Play, get the rewards, never touch again. Other than that, the game is pretty barebones, modes wise.

You didnt mention Brawlball in Brawlhalla here... Which is probably the most played side mode in any fighting game considering we have seasonal Tournaments
@matlotl11 ай бұрын
Time and scope limitations during the development process. Scopes have grown so far that there is sadly rarely much time/budget/etc to put into side modes - and this goes for pretty much all games nowadays. As such, the side modes you do tend to see struggle to be very substantial - to use smash as an example, I personally feel like the only truly great modes in the series have been subspace emissary in brawl, smash run in 3ds, and world of light (to a point) in ultimate. Pretty much everything else just kinda... sucks. Most of them consist of variants of the core multiplayer fighting mode, but since its against CPUs they just aren't very fun. Multi man smash, classic mode, all star - all are *fine* but few are truly good. Its just a limitation on development resources at the end of the day, so they can only really focus on the core draw mode of the game and nothing else.
@jorge86rodriguez11 ай бұрын
I fully agree with this 100%, single player content is fine for initial sales but it won`t help with player retention, casuals will complete it and be done. But with mini games they can have fun for ages. I really think the focus should be on multiplayer fun games, instead of single player content.

@Eaguru11 ай бұрын
I never understood the love for these half-baked minigames. Seeing the characters of the main fighting game in them is neat, I guess, but if I wanted a real fleshed out experience for any type of mini game I always felt better served just... playing something else. I hate the idea of development time (especially with how small these teams can be stretched) spent on superfluous modes instead of honing the main core of the game. Guess I just don't get it.
@typhoonbh11 ай бұрын
I can definitely understand that, I think some of it has to do with nostalgia and also there are a surprising amount of players who mostly play offline/single player so a lot of these mini games are marketed towards attracting casual players. I agree though if the dev team is already spread thin they should focus on the core game, but I do think it could be beneficial to triple a studios who have enough resources.

Yes, if they exist you’re “technically” not getting off the game as often as others, you’re just playing a different enough game within the same game that still counts to your hours and makes it look like your good because of how many hours you get by also playing the mini game. If anything i just see them as distractions from the main game and only adding fuel to fire of stagnation.
