I know that the Quran forbids it, however, I was stating what rationale Muslims usually give for this restriction, since there is clearly nothing wrong with eating pork if you take religion out of the picture. Many religions have certain dietary restrictions. They are arbitrary, of course, as you eat things that other religions forbid. This is just one example which shows that religions are man-made.

Alcohol is logical for it to be forbidden... the Quran basically states anything that is an intoxicant, not just alcoholic drinks... Now, carrion... blood and the flesh of swine are things that can carry various diseases and are harder to purify compared to other meals... The reason these were forbidden was that they were common practices in the world at that time... so why has not the Quran stated not to eat bear or tiger meat? Or not to drink sewage? Because, hardly anybody did! Those things people did... in addition to gambling... games of luck... fornication... etc... that are also mentioned as forbidden were common, but are also harmful... that is why they have been banned...
