Their in lore heritage is not well known, and not even all the Exorcists are given that knowledge. Perhaps they may or may not answer the Imperial Fists last wall protocol, as they try to remain secretive of their gene seed.

It might have something to do with how Malcador the hero shrouded the moon and then later it came back into reality or something. Maybe they have some special dispensation or something from the Sigilite. Because don't they have alike a box that they are supposed to open if the Emperor actually dies on the golden throne. The custodes gene stock is from the emperor not the grey nights. Grey knights were phased out of time or something by Malcador. Also don't they just recruit from the black ships directly.

I think at the threat of being excommunicated by the Custodes, as if they have that authority of the Grey Knights, would cause a fight right there. I can just imagine the threat being said and behind an eye twitching Voldus opens up a warp portals from casting Gate to Infinity. All 100 remaining Grey Knights file through with a big ass Dreadknight crouching through a portal itself, posting up around Voldus like "I heard you talking shit about our boy here." The Grey Knights vs Banana Bois would ensue. If that's how the Grey Knights go out I couldn't be happier, speaking as Grey Knights player they are going to fade out of the game at some point and I would like an epic last stand of morals on a changing Imperium rather than being worn down to nothing on a battle of attrition.

It seems more likely to me that Guilliman simply did not know the Grey Knights existed. Guilliman was only active for 100 years between 021.M31 - the Second Founding - to 121.M31 - Guilliman's entombment in statis. Malcador set up and established the Grey Knights in secret before the Heresy, hid Titan in the Warp during the Heresy, and the Grey Knights only reappeared during the Second Founding. In that time there is little evidence to point to Guilliman being told any, never mind all, of the Inquisition's secrets. Especially while he was busy preventing the Imperium from falling apart, and fighting the Great Scouring. I find it much more likely that Guilliman not knowing of the Grey Knights, and thus not telling Cawl to prepare Primaris for that chapter, as an explanation as to why there were no Primaris reinforcements for the Grey Knights. After all, the Grey Knights are willing to kill pious and loyal sisters of battle simply for an edge in battle against demons. It makes little sense for them to refuse help if it truly would assist their holy mission. Though, the actual reason is likely that Primaris Grey Knights would mean Primaris Terminators, and GW wants to reveal that later.

@@Bleiser3 A detachment of Sisters killed by Grey Knights, their bodies sliced open and their blood applied to the Grey Knights' armor, so the Grey Knights can be immune to the Bloodtide's effects (though some of the Sisters were immune with faith alone, make of that what you will). The Bloodtide was retconned in the most recent Grey Knights Codex to instead go down holding the line long enough for their Grey Knight allies to finish off the Daemons. However, Primaris Grey Knights would be undoubtedly the strongest Astartes to exist, rivaling that of the Custodes probably 1:1 at that point. However, since there are roughly 100 left, assuming that we took a direct ratio there would be 39 Grey Knights left. We'll assume that Grand Master Voldus, Castellan Crowe, and Brother Captain Stern survive as they're the important named characters. That leaves 36 other Grey Knights. It would make them the smallest, most elite fighting force in the Imperium. That's not a bad thing though.

Yup, we have just seen the first Chaos Primaris enter the fray. Havoks and terminators that match the size of the primaris are now on the field. Girly man and Cowed have been working with heretics and Xenos and only Alpha Legion could have possibly convinced Loyal Space Marines to let Girlyman insert his corrupted DNA into them. All this because Girlyman thought he needed a convoluted reason to make the leg armour not compress their legs.

Brilliant That is what I have been saying for a while now. Indeed I believe the return of Gulliman is part of a whole new era. Gulliman is resurrected thanks to the ELDAR and my favorite Alphas have always been the 'Grey Knights of sabotage, strategy and plausible deniability' while Gulliman is the opposite, straight forwards and open. Indeed I have stated the Ultras are the 'First Foundation and the Alphas the 2nd in terms of the Asimov trilogy, the Alphas must operate EVERYWHERE SECRETLY, The Ultras OPENLY in the Imperium, the the G.K. the SPECIALIST RESERVE SECRETLY. Grey knights all wear Aegis armor, all either Terminator or Artificer make. Primaris can't fit into relic power armor and they probably can't make Aegis Pattern Mk X armor. While it does nothing tabletop in 8th, the wards on Aegis armor help them focus their powers and resist warp based energy, its like Magneto's helm or Juggernaut's armor

I saw a video a while back. Long story short? one of their first trials involves prospective grey knights walking across a frozen moon, wearing nothing but some shitty robes and a psychic-sensitive collar that'll blow their heads off if they use their powers. to make things worse, there's pools of psychochemical mist that cause halucinations. they're made to trudge back and forth, and if they lose control of their powers for even a split second, boom goes their head. there's a few other trials and things I can't remember, but at the end of it, they get mindscrubbed. all their previous memories, gone. nothing but a blank slate for the chapter to work with. to become a grey knight is basically to go through hell and then die.

I was genuinely surprised that the Grey Knights don't have Primaris support when I saw this video. With how secretive they are and the source of their gene-seed, it makes sense why they were excluded, as they didn't need some at the time. Since Primaris Marines haven't been tested on how resilient they are against the ruinous powers, it would make a good idea for a new novel, as long a great writer knows the Warhammer 40K lore well enough to make it work.

That being said, with the new Primping process that Manny Cal-Gon, prince of Smurfs went through, new Grey Knights may start receiving Cawl's Bawls during recruitment [maybe as a reward for the highest scoring/most psychic recruit in each batch] receiving damaged Aegis suits repaired with blessed parts of Gravis Armor [Mk 11 A-Greg-is armor].

The Primaris project had been going on for hundreds of years, so I think that R. Girlyman and Cawl *didn't* know about the Grey Knights at one point. By the time that R.G knew about it there wouldn't be enough time for new Primaris aspirants with enough pysker ability to emerge (due to the 99% non-variation trait of the Primaris genes) to meet the GK standards. I still do not believe that Cawl knows anything about the Grey Knights and if he does it must be 2nd hand accounts in the best case - but more realistically he's only heard rumors through his extensive connections.

The way I see it it is the changes made by Cawl that made Primaris marines resistant to chaos corruption, also make them unsuitable for induction into the Grey Knights. Unlike garden-variety librarians, Grey Knights use sorcery in the same manner as the Thousand Sons or the like (which is one of the biggest reasons they have to be kept so super-secret). It makes sense that the "genetic stability" of the Primaris also makes them less suited to wield the power of the immaterium to its full potential.

I was under the impression that people who fought beside the grey knights were either mindwiped or killed to prevent the spread of knowledge of Chaos, not knowledge of the Grey Knights. My best guess as to why GK’s don’t have Primaris marines? Simply put, because GW hasn’t released them yet. I predict one of two things. 1) No new Primaris for GK’s and they try to carve a more unique niche for them, or 2) They do get Primaris eventually. One thing is certain, GK Primaris models would look absolutely dope. And if I could wish one thing, that they make something that is a cross between the aggressors and terminators that is exclusive to only Grey Knights.

The easy answer for GW would be Roboute didn't know about them to give the order, the lore option would be Cawl only had the 20 original seeds. However what if Cawl did have their seed, what if the Grey Knights are actually one of the two 'lost' chapters. Most Seeds have an alternate or twin seed, Space Wolves/World Eaters, Imperial Fists/Iron Warriors, Blood Angels/Night Lords... Thousand sons and... to me it makes sense one of the lost chapters was a psyker marine chapter like the sons, now while their primarch and chapter were wiped out of record the seed wasn't destroyed. Malcador could have made the decision that it would have been a wasted thing, a strong psyker seed with what was coming in the form of chaos, especially with the sons turning traitor If they were one of the lost chapters, then cawl has the seed, and we all know that there's no way Cawl listened to Roboute entirely for 10,000 years when it didn't look like Roboute was coming back. Cawl has had his mechandrites in all the seeds... ... and obviously GW haven't made the models yet...

There's another possibility the gray Knights could all be primaris Marines already. The program had to begin somewhere. And it was begun a long time ago. The emperor could have made more powerful Marines he did create the custodies and the thunder warriors. So why not have the knowledge technology and forethought to create more powerful Space Marines. Maybe he had the knowledge on hand and for some reason decided not to do it. But somebody close to him dusted it off and got it going again. And then Papa Smurf found out about it and thought hey look more powerful soldiers I can use those. Someone founded the gray Knights as a reaction it was somebody close to the Emperor who had access to all of the secret special genetics programs to create the primark's. This old wrinkled psyker would have unlocked that and started work on something a little more robust for his own special forces units. Units that would later become known as the Grey Knights.
