I had always thought he was sighing out of tiredness. Facing someone as fast and aggressive as Anakin while being a bit on the older side would definitely be exhausting. But prideful disappointment definitely fits very well.

With the force flowing through him, he probably didn't realize the implications of the dismemberment in the moment. Not just for handicapping the chosen one, and a star pupil failing a teacher even if not his own, dooku imo was also disappointed in himself for needing to dismember him. Just as obi wan used a forbidden technique against Vader on mustaafar.

Force power wise, starkiller is stronger, but in terms of combat, starkiller learned all of that from Vader. So without Anakin training starkiller, in a straight up light saber fight. My money would be on Anakin.

Yes and no. Star killer learned from proxys programs remember? Vader taught him the basics, but starkiller mastered his own form of lightsaber combat. So yes, vader taught him to wield a lightsaber, but starkiller chose and mastered his own form. His canon states he mastered all forms and could counter all forms

We saw him trained in the force unleashed from the start by proxy, and his last training session was at the start of force unleashed 2 with proxy appearing as Juno, and when Vader showed him what he was going to do to him. Revolted for sure. I also recall it had caught him off guard when Anakin came up with a second lightsabre. Not sure though. I was around 12 back then and reading an issue which may or may have not been canon at the time or at all.

Yeah but Anakin's move to use two lightsabers was kinda smart since it actually caught Dooku off guard and caused him to retreat for a bit. If Anakin had spent more time training with two blades, he likely could have held Dooku off at least until Yoda arrived.

I always looked at like he didn't want to hurt Anakin or Obi-Wan but convert them. Dooku is very sentimental. Viewing Quigon as a son, and Obi-Wan as a grandson. Even if he didn't respect or like Anakin he no doubt would have some attachment to him because of Jinn. A shame the Count was only made to be a disposable villain because he's up there as one of the most complex & skilled characters.

I think the plan in Dooku's last moments was to turn Anakin because murder is against the Jedi Code, Dooku was disarmed and no longer a threat. The Sad thing is Dooku was right, Anakin turned to the dark side the second he struck him down. the rest of the movie is just finishing the job.

A prime point is his eyes, not fully consumed by rage and hatred and very much still calm and in control keeping a uncorrupted set of eyes. His principles simply dont align with the current jedi order of his time, and he wanted them to join him because he would be alone to rebuild what he thinks the jedi should have been all on his own if he succeeded.

I always believed that what he felt in that moment was a sense of regret that he was having to harm the Jedi. He didn't like where the Jedi were going in terms of being political tools and he regretted having to come into conflict with them but he saw it as an inevitability at that point in time.

Dooku's disrespect for Anakin's fighting style is what lead to his death. He never thought for a second that Anakin could use the dark side to defeat him. It is a theme that appears time and time again in Star Wars that even if you are more powerful, if you underestimate the those who are less powerful, you will lose by their hand.

Obi-Wan was knocked unconscious, the chancellor had been kidnapped, Grievous was still alive, and all the dark side emotions having built up from the death of Qui-Gon Jinn, much more from his mother's death, the Jedi order continually losing favor in his eyes, Ahsoka leaving the order, Obi-Wan faking his death, and not telling Anakin. By the point of Revenge Of The Sith, Anakin was already letting himself have dark side moments. Anakin's nightmares about Padme, his frustration with being given all but the rank of master, along with Sideous' false promises about cheating death were all that pushed him over the edge. As an aside, Anakin wanted the master rank, because he would have access to the restricted areas of the Jedi archives. Anakin thought that he might find ancient sith knowledge about saving Padme.

Granted, I love Count Dooku. He's one of my favorite characters and even underrated characters but don't you think, at least by the midway point of the clone wars that he was a maybe someone in denial when it comes to Aniken? Without Dooku, there would be no Vader. Vader heavily inspired his demeanor and fighting style on Dooku when fighting a lesser skilled combatant one-handed. Vader, like Dooku, is very cool headed and collected and a good strategist.

I always took it as Dooku seeing Anakin, or his taking of Anakin’s arm, as a waste, or rather a wasting of potential. It was a “What a waste…” moment. He was probably mostly let down over how easy it was.

I always assumed he was sad about Anakin's wasted potential. Dooku thought of people with artificial limbs as less human, to the point that he would sooner learn how to duel one-handed than accept having a prosthetic arm. Also, he was passionate about dueling and perhaps would have loved to have a proper fight against a fully trained Anakin who still has both organic arms. Cutting off Anakin's arm means that is no longer a possibility, which must have been sad for a living legend looking for the ultimate challenge.

Well, I think the saying is that if you hate yourself, or aspects of yourself, seeing them in others makes you hate them... or something like that. I think this sums up why Anakin and Dooku had no respect for each other. They see themselves reflected in each other! That would certainly be a reason Dooku would be disappointed that Anakin wasn't better, especially if was claimed to be the chosen one (from Dooku's perspective since he was viewed in much the same way).

@@heltongomez8865 That’s the point. Dooku felt he didn’t have to try with Kenobi or Skywalker so he didn’t. He was powerful enough not to have to… or so he thought. He eliminated Kenobi easily (while purposefully sparing him) and didn’t expect Skywalker to recover so quickly and for him to be challenged by Skywalker at all. I would find it more likely that Skywalker took him by surprise and he actually had to TRY to counter his offensive. That’s a stark contrast from his fight with Yoda when he knew going into it that he would have to rely fully on the Dark Side to power him through that particular encounter. That was a sigh of surprise and relief, I believe. It would also explain Dooku’s profound hatred towards Skywalker in the Clone Wars as the prodigy Padawan who personally challenged him.

Definitely have given this moment a thought more than a few times and my feelings have been that the Count was a bit exhausted after the duel, but I also thought there was a moment where he was lamenting over his actions. Almost like he was having a moment of struggle with the light and dark side of the force. After watching Tales of the Jedi I still felt that Dooku was torn between the light and the Darkness. Even though he killed Yaddle, it seemed he was still torn and that seemed to me the case when he encountered Kenobi as well.

Our differences may divide us, but our similarities can too just as well. People who have a great deal in common with one another tend to clash because of these commonalities. It's like looking into a mirror and not liking your reflection. The fact that someone has to confront the fact that they may not be that different from someone they disagree with on a fundamental level could cause them to hate that person even more. I think it's a combination of self-loathing and an inability to see things from the other person's perspective. Something along the lines of, "Why can't you agree with me on the most important thing?" I think that applies rather nicely to Anakin and Dooku's relationship.

I am curious, and maybe you can make a video about this. In Attack of the clones, Anakin looses his lightsaber while trying to rescue Obi Wan. When the other Jedi come to rescue them, they toss them a couple of spare lightsabers. Where and how do they just get these lightsabers? Especially considering that all Jedi have to make their own lightsabers using the guidance of the force and their own powers and teachings.

I always imagined Dooku's expression at the end of the duel with Anakin to be one of exhaustion. Anakin seemed to hold up far better than Obi wan, and Anakin probably had some power to his strikes. I still somewhat think this is the case. But once Yoda got into the room, he got his second wind. Also, he had a little time for his body to recoop. And he knew this was the challenge of his life, so it was time to just show how strong he truly was

Honestly he just went from a position of unassailable power on Genosis to running for his life and just seemed kind of over it all for the day. Then he pulled it together to stalemate Yoda and didn't seem to have as much trouble with him as Sidious did...

I think that Dooku is a very underused character. You could easily have a separate multi season show about him and his path.

This is also the reason Dooku is so shocked when Anakin chops is hands off. He couldn't believe it. You saw it in his face. He knew he's about to die. I always thought the look on Geonosis was one of disgust and arrogance, but disappointment works, too!

I think it’s difficult to try and apply reasoning from books written by someone else to an emotion shown on screen. The portrayal by Christopher Lee is likely to be for different reasons than the book. However, I think you can apply all to this emotion. I think he is relieved he has come out on top, genuinely saddened that it has come to this point, as I think he’s rather anakin and Obe joined him than have to cut off his arm, and disappointment that anakin, at this stage, was not in control of his emotions enough to be realising his potential. Dooku is not the same as the emperor, although has been corrupted. He still sees himself as saving the galaxy from corruption and is the only power to be able to do so. But, he would rather other Jedi joined him in his endeavour. From this perspective, both sadness and disappointment I think are shown by Christopher Lee, along with regret.
