I always felt like Sirius actually wanted to go to Azkaban at first. That's why he let Hagrid take Harry, and that's why he never tried escaping from Azkaban before. But the moment he saw Peter as Scabbers on Ron's shoulder in the Daily Prophet, he knew Harry was in danger and for the first time in 12 years, he decided to stop punishing himself for what happened and escaped to try and protect Harry. Of course, Dumbledore could have cleared his name and explained to him why Harry needed to stay with the Dursleys, but I think Sirius actually wanted to be in prison.

As a kid, I trusted Dumbledore as Harry did. Until Aberforth questioned his belief and I was like, "Damn, he is right." Dumbledore only cared about the ultimate goal of killing Voldemort through Harry as the prophecy says. But it never said if Harry would be becoming a bigger evil than Voldemort. He needed to be selfless and down to earth. And Sirius was Harry's godfather, noble pure blood with lots of wealth. Harry might not have learned humility from him, considering Sirius's early actions. Indeed he paid a big price for being a sassy one in the young age.

Well, look at what Dumbledore's brother says about him. It seemed to me that Snape actually cared a lot more selflessly about Harry than Dumbledore ever did. With Dumbledore pretending to be Harry's friend (or at the very least, only wanting to be close to Harry for specific reasons), seeming to act as Harry's mentor etc etc but only telling Harry key points and not giving Harry vital knowledge about his fate when it suited Dumbledore's purposes is way worse than if he'd had nothing much to do with Harry. Snape was even taken aback at Albus' coldness re Harry's death and SNAPE was the one who said the phrase about what, so all these years you've just been raising Harry like "a pig for slaughter" to Dumbledore. It did put Dumbledore in a very different light when you consider that he *had* known for all those years that his plans would lead to Harry's death and Snape calling him out for merely ONLY caring that Harry died "at the appropriate time" was pretty accurate. Manipulation is manipulation - "greater good" or not - it always does involve deception, opportunism, portraying disingenuine emotions and "using people". And anybody who has all those traits? Aka as long as Harry lived with Petunia and called that home he would be protected from Voldemort. Dumbledore knew this which is why he allowed Harry to live with the Dursleys, to protect him. If Harry was to stay with Sirius or the Weasleys permanently then Harry wouldn't have that protection his mother gave him. It would have been broken the minute Harry moved out from the Dursleys to stay with Sirius and Harry would've died in the last book/movie along with the horcrux inside him when Voldemort casted the killing curse on him.

On the other hand, it’s good to have flawed Gryffindors; the house doesn’t/shouldn’t signify wholly flawless individuals who lack the ability to make mistakes - even deceitful and/or hurtful ones. Similarly, it’s nice that Snape - who utterly exemplifies the Slytherin brand - turns out to be a (admittedly flawed) hero. If Gryffindor was all bubbles and heroes and Slytherin was all liars and death eaters, it would make for a rather mundane creative universe. In the first few books, when everyone is so young, things *do* seem a lot simpler in that way; however, those archetypes definitely get tested as the novels and characters progress. Plus, the the whole ordeal about Harry being a good choice for Slytherin - but having his preference for Gryffindor factor into the equation - implies a broader idea that the house in which an individual is put only matters so much….we definitely see that the houses *shape* people, but they don’t limit or define them. All of that being said….I do feel as though Dumbledore was similar to Harry in the sense that he too would have made a “fine Slytherin.” In the later novels (the last one in particular), we do definitely get a sense that Dumbledore’s humility took a backseat to his own search for power and self-preservation. So I definitely don’t disagree that it would’ve been a fit - I just don’t think that Gryffindor was a misfit

As to the killing of all the death eater’s, the issue with that is that some where under the imperius curse, which it seems very few can detect in others. Killing every single death eater would have meant potentially killing an unrolled number of innocent people along with them, which even the ministry isn’t that cruel to do since committing mass executions wouldn’t look good in the public eye. They’d be seen as barbarians finding simple solutions to complex problems. Another problem is not all death eater’s were identified....some hid until the right moment to come out for round 2 in the second wizarding war. The last problem is that Askaban was thought to be inescapable until Sirius Black and Barty Crouch Jr. escaped....not only due to its location but the dementor’s constantly draining the will and morale from their prisoners, psychologically torturing them endlessly.....a fate far worse than simply dying. The meeting of the Weasleys was a set up orchestrated by Dumbledore so Harry only became freinds with people Dumbledore controlled or who worshipped him (Molly worshipped Dumbledore and browbeated her family to do so too). He planned Harrys life right down to who he was to marry (sorry but dont buy into Harry falling for Ginny out of the blue. There is very little interaction with Ginny throught out the books). Dumbledore was the true dark lord of the books. He even knew and did nothing about Tom Riddle. If he had, Voldemort would have never came to be. It was war for the future of the wizarding world. You see a taste of how bad it would get in after Dumbledore dies and Voldemort takes over. Harry was the only one with the ability to kill Voldemort so Dumbledore had to make difficult decisions to prepare Harry for the final dual. Dumbledore also figured out the horcruxes that Voldemort made and that Harry was one as well. So to destroy Voldemort Harry would have to be killed by Voldemort. Dumbledore tells Harry how much he cares for him at the end of the The order of the Phoenix. He then teaches him about the horcruxes and the ways to destroy them. He explained to Snape why he didn’t tell Harry that he was a Horcrux but Snape would have to at the right moment. Dumbledore also knew that Voldemort made a huge mistake when he took Harry’s blood bc that would protect Harry and he then had a chance to survive after Voldemort used the killing curse on him. Dumbledore cared for life while Voldemort would kill anyone to gain power. Dumbledore’s only “agenda” was the downfall of Voldemort.

You can’t just ignore Sirius’ innocence - actually yes I can I’m the chief inspector.
@novart92304 жыл бұрын
I don't think Dumbledore knew that Sirius was innocent because everything was against him : - They knew that there were a traitor in the Order of the Phoenix and a lot of members were killed so they were all on edge (When Sirius and Remus are talking for the first time in the 3r book, they said they were suspecting one another). When Sirius was confirmed to be the traitor that means he was the reason not only for the Potter death but also for all the others dead members. So yeah...no friends anymore for him. - Sirius was a Black and all members of his family were ally to Voldemort (well at least officialy for his brother) so he was always a good suspect. - Fudge was a brand new Minister of Magic and we know that he would never look further. It was clear in the book that Fudge saw trials like unnecessery and a lost of his precious time. He was ready to kill Sirius on the spot after his escape. Beside Sirius was the last "death eater" to be arrested so they were no compassion left for him. After his second escape (thanks to Harry), it was impossible for Fudge to believe that he was innocent. - As you said, he was seen laughing in front of 12 dead muggles and what was left of Pettigrew so mad man, no question asked. So with all that and Dumbledore convinced that Sirius was indeed the secret keeper of the Potter I think he didn't see Sirus as innocent. Also Dumbledore had probably a lot of guilt : The Potter were dead (even though the couple was his top priority to protect), the Longbottom were tortured (the other family under his protection) and a lot of members of the Phoenix, invited by Dumbledore himself, were killed. Dumbledore disband the order and worked alone after that and wasn't probably open to forgive Sirius if nothing show him that he was potentialy innocent other that his school years (Pettigrow was also a "good" student and any of his teachers could believe that he was a traitor). And I really don't think Dumbledore would have left Sirius rot in Azkaban just to let Harry be with the Dursley. He would have explain to Sirius the truth about the protection and Sirius would have probably accept an alternative. If not, Dumbledore would have find a way to send Sirius elsewhere but not a prison.

After Sirius dies and Harry is in Dumbledore's office screaming at him and throwing his stuff around and having a tantrum, he starts going on about how Dumbledore had kept Sirius shut in at Grimmauld Place for all that time and how it had been so terrible for him cause people don't like being shut in and all that, and then suddenly Dumbledore had tears in his eyes. Could he possibly have been thinking not only about the time he kept Sirius shut up in Grimmauld Place, but also about how he had left him to rot for 12 years in Azkaban too? I imagine Dumbledore would feel a lot of guilt about something like that, even if it had been necessary, for the greater good. @Harry Potter Theory There's one more piece of the puzzle that you failed to mention that actually paints Dumbledore in a better light. And the piece is thus: leaving Sirius in Azkaban wasn't entirely Dumbledore's decision. It was also Sirius'. Sirius would have known about Lily's sacrifice and, if not, Dumbledore would have told him. Knowing that the absolute safest place for Harry was with The Dursleys and knowing that if he were to go free, Sirius would be far too tempted to accept the awarding of guardianship over Harry, it is entirely possible that, at Dumbledore's urging, Sirius willingly chose to take the fall and remain in Azkaban to protect Harry. And why do I say that? Because there is one undeniable fact that everyone seems to be overlooking: Sirius Black could have escaped Azkaban AT ANY TIME. But he didn't. Until Harry's third year at Hogwarts. The fact that he was in Azkaban for 12 years before escaping would tell me that Sirius' imprisonment was entirely by choice. Also consider this: Why in the Hell would the Ministry allow someone like Sirius Black to remain alive for TWELVE YEARS?! The answer, of course, is they wouldn't. And the proof is that after Barty Crouch Jr. is re-captured and sent to Azkaban, he is promptly kissed by the Dementors and killed. Logic would dictate that, for a man who was sent to Azkaban without trial, that should also have been Sirius' fate. Yet the fact remains that Sirius Black remained alive in Azkaban for twelve years. How is this possible? There's one man who would have had the authority and the means to make this so. And that man is the Chief Warlock of The Wizengamot: Albus Dumbledore. You said it yourself, with that title, Dumbledore has unrestricted access to Azkaban and it's inhabitants. Here's what I think happened: I think upon his incarceration, Albus Dumbledore DID visit Sirius Black. I think after a discussion between the two, it was decided that the best thing for Harry was for Sirius Black to remain in Azkaban. Or, at least, that's what Dumbledore used to convince Sirius to agree to the plan. In truth, I like your take on Dumbledore where he planned everything from the beginning and manipulated Harry's entire life up until the end of the books for the express purpose of saving the Wizarding World from Voldemort, Harry be damned. It fits with what we know of the character of Albus Dumbledore. I think Dumbledore told Sirius to wait in Azkaban for word from Dumbledore before breaking out and, in return, Dumbledore himself would muzzle The Dementors so they wouldn't kill him. Year Three comes along and Dumbledore sends for Sirius who promptly goes Dog Mode and breaks out. So why Year 3? The answer to that question lies with the hiring of Remus Lupin as the DADA Professor. As I see it, there were only two reasons Dumbledore hired Lupin. The first, and primary, reason for hiring Lupin is because Dumbledore knew that Scabbers was Peter Pettigrew the entire time. He had to have known the moment Ron Weasley walked through the doors of Hogwarts. By Year 3, Harry was mature enough to be shown the truth and the only way the truth would be revealed would be to entice Peter to show his ugly mug. Enter Remus Lupin, one of only two men whose presence would actually entice Peter to come out and play. But Dumbledore knew that wouldn't be enough. And that leads to the second reason Lupin was hired. Dumbledore summoned Sirius to Hogwarts and he knew that upon doing so, The Dementors would follow. Remus Lupin is one of a few people who can conjure a Full Patronus and, certainly, the only one Dumbledore trusted aside from Snape (Hell, given Dumbledore's reaction to Snape conjuring a Patronus in Book 7, he might not have actually known Snape could do that). With the inevitability of Dementors being stationed at Hogwarts during this year, he needed someone who could protect Harry from them and teach Harry to protect himself. So, to recap, Remus and Sirius were summoned to Hogwarts during Harry's Third Year to force Peter Pettigrew to show himself and expose Harry to the truth behind his parents' deaths. Lupin was also brought in to counter The Dementors that were sure to follow Sirius. Sirius, like Lupin, also had a second purpose: He was Harry's backup in case Lupin went full Werewolf. Unlike Lupin, I also believe Sirius had a third purpose for Dumbledore that coincides with the timing of his breakout. With everything escalating and coming to a head, with Harry inching ever closer to his destiny, and with the Ministry becoming increasingly inept, Dumbledore needed to prepare for war. Albus Dumbledore needed The Order of The Phoenix. Grimmauld Place was its Headquarters. And they couldn't access it without Sirius Black. So, for The Order of The Phoenix to re-convene and re-activate, Dumbledore needed Sirius Black free from Azkaban. So I will end with this: If this is all true, then it is supremely ironic. Like, the epitome of irony. Why do I say that? Because if all of this is true, Albus Dumbledore caused the resurrection of Voldemort. If Peter Pettigrew had not been forced to reveal himself during Harry's third year, it is entirely possible Voldemort would not have come back. And, yes, I have proof of this. Professor Sybil Trelawney actually makes a legit Prophecy when Harry returns a crystal ball to her after class in Prisoner of Azkaban that states that Pettigrew would be revealed as the true betrayer of The Potters and that he and Voldemort would be reunited for the first time since the Potters' deaths. And, as we all know, it is that reunion that would, ultimately, lead to Voldemort's return in Goblet of Fire. And so the ultimate irony is that the one Prophecy that Dumbledore DIDN'T know about is the one warning that Dumbledore's plan to reveal the truth to Harry would invariably and inevitably lead to the one thing he was trying to avoid: The Return of Lord Voldemort. I apologize for the length of this comment. I didn't think it would get this long. But, I guess, in the end, if your theory about Dumbledore's manipulation of Harry's life from the moment of his parents' deaths and my addendum to your theory are true, then, everything that happened after Prisoner of Azkaban, all of those deaths, are on Dumbledore's head because, according to Sybil Trelawney's Last Prophecy (that we know of), Albus Dumbledore was the direct root cause of Voldemort's Return. And, as was stated in the books, Trelawney's actual legit Prophecies are never wrong. If you've made it to the end, I'll just say keep up the great content!

Except why then would Sirius ask Harry to live with him at the end of both the book and movie, and also if he willingly stayed in Azkaban why would he be fighting Remus and harry for the chance to kill Pettigrew after having wasted 12 years for a crime he didn't commit. Your theory sounds good without all of the context but you have to consider that canonically speaking Sirius did rot and was furious that he was stuck in Azkaban while the man who murdered not only (at least) 12 strangers at the time but also two of his best friends was simply hiding away never facing the consequences. Sirius's personality would not allow for him to be Dumbledore's dog (pun not intended) He as a Gryffindor (especially as the sole Gryffindor in a family of Slytherins) and as a Marauder would sooner have died than allow his godson to be physically and emotionally abused for 12 years for some vague idea of "the greater good". Tl;Dr: Your theory cannot work when taking canon into consideration because what you are theorizing is completely out of character for Sirius whose Gryffindor traits and close relationship to James and Lily would not have allowed for the behavior your describing. This could work as a canon shifted fanfic plot point but not as a possibility in the true canon.

@@h.p.2611 Then give me one good reason why Sirius Black did not immediately walk out of Azkaban. Given the fact that he could have done just that AT ANY TIME, the ONLY conclusion we can draw is that he WILLINGLY stayed in Azkaban. And the ONLY person who would have been able to convince him to willingly stay in Azkaban was Albus Dumbledore. The Bargaining Chip? Harry himself. Again, if you actually read my theory, I never said Sirius stayed in Azkaban for Albus. He stayed in Azkaban for Harry. "The Greater Good" had nothing to do with why Sirius would allow Harry to live with the Dursleys. The Love Shield is the reason why Sirius allowed Harry to remain with the Dursleys until he was old enough. The same reason he capitulated to Dumbledore is the same reason he allowed Harry to remain with the Dursleys. Because Harry was far, FAR, safer with the Durselys than anywhere else in the world. That and he trusted Dumbledore to make sure Harry wasn't super abused. Which Dumbledore did. Remember, Dumbeldore actively kept watch over Harry and the Durselys and constantly kept Petunia in check. He never once allowed Petunia to cross the line when it came to Harry. You ask why did Sirius Black ask Harry to live with him? Because Harry was no longer a child. Because Harry was a very capable and powerful Wizard. Because, by Sirius' estimation, Harry no longer needed the protection of the Love Shield. Sirius would have felt that he, along with the Order of The Phoenix, and Harry himself would be able to protect Harry. Also because Sirius is, if nothing else, selfish, arrogant, and reckless. As I stated in my theory, this behavior is EXACTLY why Albus Dumbledore convinced Sirius Black to remain in Azkaban for 12 years. You also ask why Sirius would be so eager and adamant about killing Peter Pettigrew quickly? Exactly for the reason you stated. Because he spent 12 Years in Azakaban for Peter's crimes. But more importantly because he did so WILLINGLY. As far as Sirius is concerned, vengeance upon Peter was his due reward for willingly staying in Azkaban for 12 long years.

Dumbledore himself said that he didn't know Sirius was innocent. Sirius was known as the secret keeper so there was no reason for anyone to doubt his guilt. His trial was carried out by Barty Crouch Sr, who was infamous at the time for sending people to Azkaban without trials, it was not unusual.

The problem with this theory IMO is that it even if Sirius was released, it seems unlikely Dumbledore wouldn't tell Sirius that only by living with the Dursleys does Harry have protection from Voldemort. And once told this, I can't see Sirius willfully trying to remove Harry from that protection. No, I think the simpler explanation is that Dumbledore just assumed Sirius was guilty.

Also how could anyone find the house in Godrick's Hallow if Peter was the secretkeeper and nobody knew that so he didn't tell anyone but Voldemort. Hagrid even mentions it that Sirius gave him his motorcycle on which he transported Harry to the Dursleys. There are a few plot holes and Dumbledore knew 100% what happened.
@alejandrac.26524 жыл бұрын
I think we ought to remember when this all happened, Voldemort had just disappeared, the Minister did not care for the truth, just to get it all over with. Also, Sirius could have asked Dumbledore to vouch for his innocence or even to have escaped before he ever knew where Petigrew was, but my answer as to why did he chose Azkaban is far simpler: he did feel guilty, he did think it was because of him that his best friend had died. I think we are also forgetting who Sirius was, he came from a pure blood family and he hated that fact, he also feelt a little insecure for it (remember Snape's memories of their first encounter, Sirius unwillingness to be a Slytherin). He might have always felt a little guilty for who he was, and that mistake with the Potters just confirmed what could have been his worst fear.

I think Rowlings writing doesn't hold up when challenged with some critical thought. It all becomes a plot hole cheese swirl The protection charm stops when Harry becomes 17, so a man. 17 is simply a law used in the wizarding world. Biologically a 17 year old is still very much growing up, physically and emotionally. Very nice of such old magic to take legality into account. Then with that same spirit, family is not just blood, but also what you choose. The wizard world seems to have a thing with godparents? With what we know of the next generation it is godparents galore! It is perfectly legal and acceptable to appoint a non related person as a back up parent in case the real parents die. So Sirius can be reckonised as actual family, and thus Harry could have been save with him as he was supposedly with Petunia. Lilys magic needed her sisters blood to survive but what aunt starves her nephew, cuts his hair with hedge scissors, allows him to be beaten, bullied, locked up in a small space for months, etc. Such abuse would be national headline and outcry of horror if real. In Rowlings world of love is the strongest force, Lilys charm would be dead and void. Just because Harrt was allowed 2 meters of cupboard space to exist in doesn't make it loving or home. Lily and James chose Sirius as legal guardian. The charm takes the magic legal age in account for how long it exists. Sirius could have been reckonised by the charm as Harrys family, as Lily chose Sirius as well as godfather, for her love for him and Sirius's love for Harry. When JK took up her worldbuilding she, just, wasn't consistent with anything. Took up magic deus ex machinas that actually poked holes into the story. Timeturners, proving truths in magical trials, etc. Its after all these years still completely beyond me what staying with the Dursleys accomplished. K, granted for sake of argument he was safe from voldemort there.But Dumbledore also wanted Harry humble I guess? Harry had to be humble, k, How Harry could be so humble if coming from an abusive family, rather than what he would have been, antisocial from severe abuse in his formatting years. Extreme Trauma like Harry faced as baby, lack of love and bonding, and severe neglect and abuse in early childhood stunts development, and breeds antisocial, violent disorders. Harry didn't have a common sheltered life. It's pretty unique to be so abused like harry was. It's just a neat unique plot thing, a boy in the cupboard under the stairs gets rescued to a magical world! Its fun! Its fantasy, it works! Why the whole plot finale ootp could have been avoided if Dumbledore simply slid Harry a note with how Voldemort would trick Harry therefor learn occlumency? He wouldn't have needed to look Harry in the eyes for that if he feared Voldemort spying through Harry? Or let Sirius tell Harry, or Mcgonnagol? No big actionscenes, no set up for the prophecy, tension and a gutpunch for shock value with Sirius's murder. So, say nothing at all. Cause an epic end fight a book needs couldn't be set up any other way apparently.... I love HP. Im obsessed. Its just not so good writing.

Yes, Lily and Petunia were estranged, but I would guess that Dumbledore figured that Lily's death would make Petunia feel remorse for her "hatred" and remember the love she once had for her sister. And then, so as not to draw attention to the Dursleys, they didn't conduct wellness checks.

On book one he claimed the main reason was to avoid fame corrupting harry, so he could grow a normal boy, later on book 5 he said it was because Lily's enchantment living on on her sister's blood would protect Harry against Voldemort more than anything. I don't think he expected the Dursley's to commit child abuse for 16 years, and by the time he understood this, the fact of Lily's protection outweighed the disadvantages, I think he did love Harry and worried about him.

Yes, of course, and Lily always refused Snape so he could be a spy in Voldemort's army, it was her masterplan all along. Seriously from a channel like this i expect a bit more solid logic and deduction, not random speculation, and even more annoying than this Sirius was NOT the only one to be sent to Azkaban without a trial. Yes, some Death Eaters got trials (we only really know of the trial to Crouch Jr and his comrades, and it was likely held because Crouch Jr; Ludo wasn't really a serious trial at all and Karkarof was already in Azkaban when he got summoned in front of the Wizengamot) but a lot of them didnt; Sirius specifically says to Harry Ron and Hermione, when he was talking about Crouch, "i wasn't the only one to be sentenced without a trial". But most importantly people seem to think stuff like Veritaserum and Legilimancy is 100% accurate as long as it's done properly, but it's actually NOT. Veritaserum has an antidote and doesn't really work if you give it to someone ready and fully awake, and Legilimancy can be deflected by Occlumancy pretty easily (we see Draco put serious obstacles in Snape's way after studying it for like 2 months at home with Bella and we know Dumbledore and Snape expect Harry to be able to stop Voldemort's inclusion with a few months of lessons) and most importantly of all both systems can be worked around so you dont even realize they are not working. People could fake drink Veritaserum / take an antidote prior / cast spells on themselves / just resist with mental strenght to nullify the effects of the truth potion and give you a false witness you assume to be 100% true, or could change theyr memories (prior or on the flight) to give you, again, false witness. People seem to think law is easy and dandy in the Wizarding World, but there are so many complications to it it becomes almost impossible to say if someone is telling the truth, and we just mentioned the counters to the most common arguments. Imperius curse (self inflicted, if it's even possible, or inflicted by someone), Confundus curse, Oblivion, there's so much shit we know about, imagine the shit we DONT know about. And even then Legilimancy, wich seems to be the most effective thing when performed by a wizard like Dumbledore, aint a proof. Even if Dumbledore's legilimancy is so powerful NO ONE can fuck around with it in any way shape or form only Dumbledore would know the truth and you cant leave the whole tribunal system in the hands of one man that can do whatever the fuck he wants. Besides all this, Dumbledore is not a perfect all knowing God; he suspected that there was a spy in the order and near the potters, and Sirius was a good candidate for that seing how his family was, and when all clues pointed to Sirius he probably just accepted it. It's a bit weird, yes, but to go as far as to say Dumbells knew it all along is some real conspiracy theory we have over here.
@unLUCKY953 жыл бұрын
One of my favourite things about the Harry Potter series is how we're led to believe that Dumbledore is this perfect, loving, all knowing hero who would never let any one come to harm, yet he's just as flawed as any one else and, while he is still genuinely a caring person who doesn't wish pain on any one, he is willing to do whatever it takes for the greater good. It made the story so much more interesting when we learned how much weight Dumbledore's power and wisdom put on his shoulders, he was the only one that could set things in motion to ensure Voldemort's defeat, and there was obvious confliction within him while he was dancing on the line of what was good and what was right. He's the best written character in the wizarding world by a mile.
@mikewatts1533 Жыл бұрын
Caring??? I am calling BS. All he cared about were his manipulations. It was Albus who marked him as an equal, not Tom. He was more than willing to sacrifice an innocent if it meant he could "save" an evil person. Look at the set up of Harry and Ron. Over a decade of going to 9 & 3/4, then having to yell out about Muggles and 9 & 3/4. Just enough to attract the attention of an ill-informed child. Amazing, what a coincidence.

@SolarBlyze4 жыл бұрын
See that's something i've wondered as well. Multiple people were hiding so what's stopping them from choosing one of the people hiding to be Secret Keeper? The only reason for it to be someone else would be so the Secret Keeper could tell someone the hiders location in the event that they were in danger. But ... this is a double edged sword as evidenced by Peter. In the Potters case it would've made far more sense to make either James or Lily the Secret Keeper. Then neither of them would've died. But of course then Harry wouldn't have become "the boy who lived" either. In which case neville would've been the "chosen one" according to the prophesy
@prabhjot1986able4 жыл бұрын
The beginning of the book is the biggest flaw as james or lily not being the secret keeper sets things in motion. Also, Sirius wanting Peter to be the secret keeper is flawed too as one cannot be forced to tell the location when a fidelius charm is in place. So sirius being the keeper would be safe unless he was scared of the torture he might have to endure at the hands of Voldemort. The whole secret keeper concept just like the time turner concept is not well thought of.

"He would never have been safe with Sirius" - I don't think that's true at all. Sirius came from an old, pureblood family, with powerful ancestral homes that more than likely would've had powerful protective charms on them, including probably the Fidelus charm. We saw how well protected Grimmauld Place was when it was used for Order meetings and as it's HQ in the fifth book. Surely if it wasn't a protected place, Dumbledore would not have allowed meetings there, considering how sensitive the meetings were. Plus Sirius was a powerful wizard in his own right, he would've been able to protect Harry quite easily I reckon. Also, how can we be sure that the Blood wards around the Dursley home actually worked? Constantly, Harry refers to Hogwart's as his home, he never calls Number 4 home, which surely then made the Blood wards non-functional since Harry never refers to Privet Drive as home? I'm actually really questioning that now.

I think your position is very persuasive and, though it is horrifying to think that Dumbledore would knowingly allow Sirius to languish for 12 years in Azkaban, untried in a court of law and pronounced guilty on circumstantial evidence, it would have been in his mind a lesser evil than putting Harry, the “Boy Who Lived” in mortal danger if he was in fact destined to be the one prophesied to defeat Voldemort. You have the choice between a family friend of years and years, and between some crack addicts, who happen to drown puppies in their freetime. But they are blood related, so clearly the better choice, right?
@pitaariel19204 жыл бұрын
Sirius is my favorite character, but his story makes me so sad everytime I remember how he lived and how his life ended. Not related, but anyone else noticed that Dumbledore is clearly a Slytherin that asked the hat to be sorted into Griffindor? (The same as Harry)

When talking about the whole secret keeper thing, I always thoght that it would have been actually much better idea to make the Longbottoms their secret keepers and vice verse. That way both boys would be safe and their secret keepers protected by each other They were all Order members and knew each other. Also they had the same goal, to protect Harry and Neville. Even if they weren't close they would have lost so much by betraying each other

The long bottoms have never heard the prophesy though, so why would they want to protect Harry alone of all the wizard children out there including their own?
@missoona71302 жыл бұрын
@@DRAGGOFFICIAL they did hear it. They went into hiding at first as well. Dumbledore knew the 'as seventh month dies' could mean both Harry and Neville (Neville is born 1 day before Harry) so they both heard that they were in danger. This theory rests heavily on assumptions surrounding what Dumbledore truly thought about Trelawney’s prophecy. At the time, Dumbledore knew nothing of Voldemort’s horcruxes, so he couldn’t really know how important Harry was to the Wizarding World. Yes, he knew Harry would be at greater risk living with Sirius, but at the time he couldn’t have known Harry was that significant...idk, I absolutely love this theory, and it totally fits with Dumbledore’s machiavellian personality.

How am i just now realizing that the name of the wizarding worlds newspaper is a callback to the daily planet where Superman works lol. The daily prophet- the daily planet. How have I never noticed this before? And why the hell hasn’t anyone ever mentioned this before? I know I’m not the brightest patronus in the wand shop but am I really THAT dim to never have noticed that? That is absolutely ridiculous, someone out there after all of these years could’ve brought it up in passing and at least let me over hear it. Actually I think when the narrator said the name of the newspaper that’s the first time I’ve ever even heard the name of it? Strange. But also awesome as hell.

Dumbledore thought that Sirius was still secret keeper since no one told that they switched to Pettigrew. Only a secret keeper could have revealed the location of the Potters. Wasn’t given a reason to suspect anyone else at the time. But.. Sirius really should have had a trial.

Talented wizards have the ability to stop another wizard from reading their mind and breaking down their defenses. Sirius was known as one of the greatest wizards of his era. He would of been capable of holding off dumbledores attempt to enter his mind if he wanted. I also believe Dumbledore truly believed Sirius betrayed them and never wanted to see him again. They knew someone close had been giving information on the order. He like everyone else fell for the ploy. Dumbledore has been tricked a number of times throughout the book. Draco's ability to get deatheaters into hogwarts being one of the biggest. He also made assumptions and thought he was best in a few different portions of the book. Remember when he realized harry had a part of voldemorts soul. He cut off Harry from all communication and left him hanging. He even instructed harrys friends not to write harry. Later on he admitted he was wrong. Even the greatest of wizards can mistakes. This just shows how human dumbledore was.

Completely right about Dumbledore knowingly wanting Harry to be raised by the abusive Dursleys to harden him up. McGonagall checked on him in the first book while she was a cat, so you know that she kept an eye on him over the years before he got to Hogwarts. And you know she'd tell Dumbledore about it, and Dumbledore looked the other way and made excuses EVERY time. Around then, Dumbledore only cared about his goals and what he had to do to stop Voldemort when he returned. So he let Sirius rot in hail for YEARS, because he wanted Harry to be raised by the Dursleys undisturbed. And I bet that he told Lupin something about it not being a good idea for Harry to be around a known werewolf. That's why he never looked him up either.

it is also possible that Dumbledore, being a powerful and skilled Legilemens, would also have been able to discover that Pettigrew was the traitor in the order, if so, he could have convinced Sirius Black to talk the Potters into making Pettigrew their secret keeper, knowing that Pettigrew would betray them, getting them killed, which would allow him to place Sirius Black into the position to be framed for their betrayals, and the murders of 12 muggles and Pettigrew. Granting him uncontested control and influence over Harry Potter. One of the two possible children of prophesy. The other being Neville Longbottom, and since Pettigrew betrayed the locations of the Longbottoms to Voldemort, which allowed them to be tortured into insanity by Bellatrix Lestrange. Leaving Neville alone and undefended except for his very old grandmother and distant aunts and uncles, all of whom were firm followers of Dumbledore, making them easily manipulated, giving him control and influence over Neville Longbottom as well. if so, he was stacking the two possible deck of cards in his favour no matter which it was that was the true chosen of the prophesy. If this is true, it would mean that, regardless of his reasons, Dumbledore is in fact a truly dark and evil character, even if all his evil is done for the "Greater Good".

the thing with dumbledore is that he knew that a lot of things he did were wrong, but he also knew that they would be crucial for the defeat of lord voldemort. he obviously never enjoyed doing bad things but sometimes bad things need to happen in order for the overall end result to be a success. dumbledore did a lot of wrong things for the right reasons and they were so devastatingly necessary a lot of the time. he was a smart man, he was undeniably cruel to harry because he had the entire world’s best interests at heart, but he couldn’t tell anybody until snape at the very end.

After watching the video I remember how perfect that Sir Richard Harris was for the role of Dumbledore. He had the twinkle in the eye and fits the book description so well. Michael Gambon was a lot more gruff and less graceful than Dumbledore but did a remarkable job of making the role his own. It was kind of like Gandalf the Grey transformed into Gandalf the White which was a truly different character within the same vessel, but with Dumbledore it’s one character two vessels.

Besides the fact that Gambon was a terrible Dumbledore, and was more like Gandault the Grey turning into Saruman, yea, you're right. XD Gambon's Dumbledore straight up attacks Harry after the Goblet spits his name out. The f*** makes him a good actor?

Of course he would still have to find Pettigrew and kill the guy. But if I recall in the books it was mentioned that Sirius was thought to be their next leader. Honestly I had this theory in my mind from day one, it's why I find it so maddening that Harry named one of his son's after both not only Albus Dumbledore himself but also Severus Snape?! Both men technically made Harry's life a living hell! If I was in Harry shoes I'll be thankful for what they did as far as the war effort goes to defeating Voldemort but after their deaths and the end of the war I would want nothing to do with either of them as what they did to him can cause PTSD! That's the equivalent of an Iraqi War veteran naming one of their sons or daughters after in Iraqi soldier who killed their comrades but then helped them do something to end the war faster but that person still killed a lot of their friends and comrades you don't forget something like that and then name one of your children after them! Like what the hell?!

I totally agree with you. I forever will be on the "Snape is a villain" side, so his actions by no means justify his behavior. Snape did atrocious things! Dumbledore did wonderful things but has harmed soo many people to make those wins. At this point, I don't know if they are justified tho 🤔
