my coach just taught me how to string on his eagnas flex 940. The machine works great and you can pick them up used for cheap, personally i like the crank/ lockout more than drop-weight, much faster and very easy to use.

Yes crank lockout machines can be faster and easier but the lack of constant tension pull means it will lose tension faster so you need to set the tension higher which is often extra stress on the racket and string which can be bad especially for poly strings since they quickly lose resiliency when pulling tighter than 52 pounds. There are ways to get around this such as pulling very slow and/or pulling each string multiple times at a lower setting so that a lockout can get a similar result to a constant tension pull with some effort. No matter what machine you use the more corners you cut and the faster you string the faster you will experience tension and string bed stiffness loss because you need to give each string over 5-8 seconds or more of pull time to allow it to naturally stretch until it can retain tension properly.

Mr Stuart Lee is right. I had a Flex 940 since I was 16. Now at the age of 30 I am upgrading to a Ghost 2 for the same constant pull like a drop weight, speed like a crank lockout, and the gravity clamps like the much more expensive Baiardo. Loved my Flex 940 to death, but there are many downsides to crank. Nothing beats the price of Eagnas though XD

Excuse my ignorance, the tension is measured on the rod on the left or right side, then the weight of the pendulum.

I wouldn't recommend the Eagnas at all. I would suggest the Gamma X-2 or X-6 FC if you are on a budget. I own the X2 for the last 13 years.

Would the Stringway allow faster stringing than the Klippermate?

Absolutely.. One a klip, you may have to fiddle with the pull to balance the bar. on the stringway/laserfibre, you just drop it.

Yes Stringway is much faster and accurate

do you have any experience on the Tension clutch assembly for a Alpha Pioneer III? MIne is binding under load, I can feel resistance. Also in calibrating a drop weight machine, is a simple luggage scale ok to compare the markings on the drop weight bar to the scale readings?

I have never been able to see, use, or take apart the Alpha Pioneer III so I can not comment about the Tension clutch assembly. If it is the same as the Eagnas machines then just take it apart and inspect it and try your best to reduce any resistance in the assembly. I don't fully understand your statement "MIne is binding under load, I can feel resistance." Can you elaborate? Generally drop weight machines do not need calibration. Any good manufacturer will make sure the markings on the bar is accurate to the weight of the bar, drop weight, and distance. A simple luggage scale is a good reference to see if the marking on the drop weight is accurate but if you really want accuracy then best to just solve it by math. @@StuartLeehiquaall solved thanks. I did take it apart and removed a screw that was binding. Thanks.

@@PawlingTennis Good you were able to fix it. I have found out that most of the problems can be easily solved by simple adjustments such as tightening a screw. Taking apart the machine and looking inside will often show obvious problems.
