Great idea for parts cleaning. Always a better job to reassemble when everything is clean. I hate having to work on dirty equipment, bad enough getting dirty to tear it apart.

Yeah, the bags are a great idea! I can waste a lot of time futzing with parts and bolts cleaning them up. I got my first small ultrasonic 2 yrs ago and immediately wished i went bigger!

Ultrasonic is one of the best investments I have done. I started with a small one probably 7-8 years back. Now i have a pretty good sized one. Think it is 3L that I can set with a variable frequency sweep. It will knock caked on grease off bolt heads no problem. Stay away from cleaners that contain sodium hydroxide as anything anodized or aluminum will be gone in short order. Like the bag idea. Had not considered that before.

Got my 22L cleaner in the mail today, good timing on the video. These are great at cleaning weapons as well as any dirty parts. I like the simple green aircraft aluminum cleaner. Cheap and works great. Awesome idea with the bags. I will have to try that. Also if you want to use them in the liquid in the tank, amazon has some nice tight mesh baskets for tiny parts so they don’t fall to the bottom.

I've been cleaning engine parts for 50 years, I have tried everything imaginable, even bought a $4400 aqueous tank washer for engine blocks and heads- which quickly sat in a corner until I got tired of looking at it. My dip tank has been filled with a 50/50 mix of "Purple Power" (sold under various brand names, Zep, Orielly brand, Sams Club, etc) and water for the last 25 years. I have 2 other 7 gallon buckets, one with 100% straight Purple Power for anything steel, and the other bucket is 50/50 like the dip tank which allows you to clean aluminum parts (but you do have to watch it as it will eventually turn aluminum black). It is without a doubt the best combination I've come up with, it just works. Even better than the old Tyme sold by Zep. But I have considered buying one of these ultrasonic cleaners and really enjoyed your video and may give one a try, I can see the potential usefulness ! Thank you for the great video

My own destruction of the week! Apparently a oppossum some how got up into my engine compartment at a truck stop while on a rest break and I didn't see it during my pretrip!😢. Broke a fan blade, busted a hole in the top cooling fin area. Limped it home with radiator cap lose and 10 gallons of water, then $1800.00 worth of parts later!!!! Back on the road 🤪🤟👍 6NZ-. Pretty cool video showing an alternative to gallons of toxic cleaning solvents. As for that poor RV...I'm thinking lung cancer?Turbo? Or...that age old issue with old Cats in RV's...overheating leading to cylinder damage, resulting in Blowby. Am I close?

@larrytalley117

@@AdeptApe Ha...overheating. It is so easy to overheat a C7 or 3126 in an RV if the driver is not aware of how to keep the rpm's above 2000 while climbing. With a rear radiator and a direct drive fan, it just doesn't get enough air through the radiator to provide enough cooling. Couple that with a compromised cooling system then the cycle becomes as vicious as a bicycle with a bent wheel.

I use a cheap harbor freight ultrasonic for gun parts and brass. I’ll have to try the bag method. I use a mild degreaser, such as simple green, dawn or lemishine which is just citric acid and just dump the solution. With a stainless tub and basket never really have residue to scrub. Just dump and rinse. Got to limit time on brass with citric acid it will leach out alloyed metals and weaken the brass leaving it almost pink in color. Literally only need 1 9mm case of citric acid to about 2 liters hot water for no more than 20 min.

I did watch and clock work for years,,,an ultrasonic is great for that work...It is important to get all of the dirt and oil off of all of the parts.....so that when you reassemble them and you put a drop of oil it will stay there by capillary action ...if you add too much oil and if the parts are not perfectly clean...the oil will just run away! ...if you do it right the oil will stay right where you put it!

Hiya. FYI, love my ultrasonic. The noise can be handled. The heavier the bench, the quieter it is. Putting a sheet of closed cell foam under the unit does a lot to damp the sound and vibration in the bench. If your tools start dancing on the bench when you power it on, try the foam and/or a more rigid bench top.
@AdeptApe
@AdeptApe 3 жыл бұрын
That's a good tip. The bench is pretty sturdy and it is far enough away from where the mechanics are generally working that nobody has ran it over with a D8 yet, but I might try that foam trick.

@Smiling_mike
@Smiling_mike 3 жыл бұрын
I lived in W. Germany for 7 years and have a German friend that would rebuild his motorcycle every few years. He would tear it down and then wash his motor block/cases in the dishwasher when his girlfriend was out of town visiting relatives. It was pretty amazing how clean it would come out after using some type of cleaner and hot water= he swore by the dishwasher method!
@AdeptApe
@AdeptApe 3 жыл бұрын
I have thought of that as well. The Hotsy brand washers are basically like that just higher pressure and they recycle the water. The ultrasonic is better for little passages and stuff, like a carb or fittings, but for just general cleaning something like a dishwasher would work.
