The problem with rapper-owned record labels is there can only be one all-star on a label at a time. Theirs no way an artist who's also the label CEO is going to give you opportunities they can use themselves. Ego, budgets, & income are why so many independent labels fail doesn’t matter if the label is started by someone well known or by a group of friends eventually, as the popularity comes in egos build up then the money comes in and budgets become a problem as well as payouts because everybody wants to get paid, but nobody wants to invest so therefore, if you start your own record label it’s for you, you have to be the artist, not someone you sign, not your friend, not your relative, it’s you otherwise don’t start a record label and stay out of the independent music business. I see this as an independent artist and own my own label. I am the only artist on the label I’ve tried every avenue eventually people get jealous and try to take what you have so therefore just do your own thing.

@@steveballmer4569it’s not likely to fail because of how carti set it up. Opium is a style it’s a brand and all the artists carti signed to it fit the brand. The brand has a cult following. Look at how long carti been doing this shit and the whole time he has had a cult following. That will continue with opium because it’s a style that resonates with people. Hence why opium most likely won’t fail at least for the foreseeable future. Unless carti starts signing random artists that don’t fit the brand however I think he is smarter than that. But that also means that you’re only going to see artists with similar styles signed to opium which you could argue might over saturate the brand in which case you would see artists fall off. But again I think carti is smarter than that he is only going to sign people who fit the brand but bring their own unique music.

Never sign to a rapper’s record label… sign directly to a major if that’s the route you’re willing to go. With streaming nowadays you don’t really need labels but that bag is just too alluring for most people to turn down when they can make a bigger bag through hard work and time

Young Money is literally the GREATEST label to ever exist. Their run was the biggest.
@1mobile984 Жыл бұрын
No it wasn't. It was DeathRow. Initially Young Money wasn't even a Label, it was a musical group under Cash Money/Republic/Universal

labels fail too when their CEO gets sent to jail and some dude with cooking recipes takes over... truly harrowing

I would argue about Gucci Mane's 1017. in 2020 and in the first half of 2021, everything was fine for them. Foogiano dropped Molly with 150 million views on KZbin by now. Big Scarr dropped 3 parts of SoIcyBoyz. And Pooh Shiesty was on top with Back In Blood and a few other songs. BigWalkDog also had a couple of pretty big songs. but then Foogiano and Pooh Shiesty went to jail and because of that everything collapsed.and then Big Scarr died ant that's was the end of it. so 1017 failed not because it's a Gucci Mane's label, but because of the artists themselves.

Griselda proally the worst example to use here simply bc that whole audience will buy into every artist on the act. But I feel what you’re saying

I agree with everything except 9:32 bro the majority of the artists on that list are HUGE
@nikospapoutsidis2095 Жыл бұрын
I think the only label actually doin it is opium. There is no label that has FANS, you even hear someone say oh, i am a cactus jack fan or i am a ysl fan or sum shit? No, because it's just like a business, while opium feels like a band with seperated artists who are friends, are just the coolest mfs in the world, 95% of people who like them like all the members of the label and they all share the same kind of easthetic which they originally made and is unique and different asf. No matter if you like them or not they have the best marketing strategy and they are the most succesful ones.

Like a label can f you over that’s how these rappers wanna project that anger on the artist and f them over to keep them from getting any more successful
@22Chamberss Жыл бұрын
they fail bc they’re artists too & their success comes first. simple! the only person i would sign with today is 50 and that’s bc he really wants his ppl to win & he teaches you the game instead of keeping you in the dark when it comes to business. he’s also not with the funny shit so he’s legit imo 🤷🏾♂️
