The main problem with Ubran Spook is the lack of a protagonist The series would atleast be somewhat interesting with one But no, the series is purely just a compilation of murders read out in heavy description
@voidlesskitten92863 ай бұрын
Literally all of this could have been solved by making the person finding/watching the tapes the protag. Maybe it's been several years since these killings so it's assumed the killers are dead or inactive. The MC finds these tapes and for whatever reason, starts to investigate/compile evidence on their own. The first couple of episodes is pretty standard compilations of things they found, until episode 3 or 4, the MC receives an unmarked letter with a painting of their house or them. You can slowly ramp up the creepy horror aspect by having the killer(s) mess with the MC by sending evidence to them or pictures of them out and about, so theres a sense of being watched, but for whatever reason the MC doesn't stop, perhaps because they're being egged on by the Painter because they got bored of murdering (hence originally stopping) and now view messing with the MC as a new entertainment.
@noctisastrum74953 ай бұрын
@@voidlesskitten9286heck maybe the MC could be the parent(s) of Corey and Margaret beck like maybe they could have been a private investigator solving the painter case and even manage to save one of the painter's victim so in retaliation the painters find corey and Margaret and do all those terrible things to them. So now the f**ktoy corey thing could have more weight, as this is the painters way of messing with the P.I. and a message to whoever tries to stop them.
@Brighty5873 ай бұрын
@@noctisastrum7495 the fact that you and voidlesskitten have managed to conjure up better plots/ideas for UbranSpook is genuinely embarrassing lol
@noctisastrum74953 ай бұрын
@@Brighty587 thanks! Also, to expand on my idea, maybe the painter also manages to make himself look like one of the parents in order to kidnap Corey and Margaret and even go as far as to framed them for this horrible crime and let's say it's the father who unfortunately gets incarcerated. So, not only does this create a more personal conflict between the mother investigator(maybe her name could be Regina) and the painters, but also establish that one of the painters can make themselves look like anyone. Since the guy is an artist, maybe he could be proficient in disguises and acting as a way to hide in plain sight and scope out potential victims.
@TortoiseNotTurtle3 ай бұрын
Honestly the protag might as well be the killers with how much fucking plot armor they have. They've literally left their semen in corpses and stepped in blood yet somehow the police haven't immediately gotten their DNA? For real? They're supposedly able to move enough wax to contain a fully grown adult being into an apartment without every being spotted by anyone. Like sure, Jason and Michaek are invincible or whatever but they have that as their appeal. This isn't a, "who is Jason vorhees?" Series but a, "we have to either fight this MF or run from him". The Painter just does whatever because fuck it he's Urbanslug's glorious king.

This is a little more farfetched than your version, but if Isabelle knew the family and the killers told her they had hurt them, she might've given the wrong address because she thought if the paramedics got there quick enough there could still be a chance of them being alive. One of my biggest issues with the series, apart from how needlessly edgy it is, is that Urbanspook wants me to believe this killer, sorry killers, somehow haven't been caught. There's no way they aren't leaving tons of DNA behind wasting hours to commit the most over the top murders and mutilations. Then there's the fact that this is supposedly a small town, in the US. There is no way people didn't arm themselves after multiple people were kidnapped or just straight up murdered in their own homes.

The irony is that a analogue horror that focuses on a serial killer has the potential to be very good. Humans can be scary mother fuckers, but the killer in UrbanSpook is so tryhard you would be surprised the guy didn't die of exhaustion. Not even Jack the Ripper had the patience to pull shit like this, and that guy is a real life killer who had similar attitudes to the killer we see in UrbanSpook. If you want over the top kills that are scary, the mask comic that inspired the 1994 movie explores the idea of a not good person getting the powers of a cartoon in real life. There is nothing UrbanSpook can make that can top the idea of people getting used car parts shoved into them, with none of the cartoon physics we see in the movie.

As I have made a video on this guy myself, he goes farther than just "being a dick" He is a hypocrite because he stated in several reddit posts that he started to series to promote his artwork (Every "Painting" he draws himself which I think is neat) however when the KZbinr Wendigoon commented on the issue...i'm pretty sure you know who he is. He goes out of his way to state that he made the series out of passion and not for public attention. Which is a lie. Additionally, the guy has gone on record to contradict his own statements in reddit posts and twitter posts. All of this isn't all THAT bad all things considered but taking into consideration how rude he is to others and how he lies to his auidence about his real intentions. It's a match made for hell EDIT: For those curious, he made several Reddit posts claiming that he started the series as a ay to promote his artwork...if we look at his responce to Wendigoon he claims that he started the series NOT to only promote his artwork. Clear contradiction there. Contradiction 2 is that he claims everything he says on X (Twitter) is to be taken as a joke, yet he makes posts making solid opinions on other people's workslike Pastra and Minaxa. Both were clearly NOT jokes and had no intention to be silly or make any point across other than "You suck lol" Contradiction number 3 is that he tells the people critiquing his work that their type of horror is "Autistic furry horror" When lo and behold, he makes a horror revolving around a Horse getting his rocks off to someone so hard that they DIE. Sounds kinda like projecting fantasies to me...gross ones at that

I’m planning on making a whole rewrite/rewrite of UrbanSpook/The Painter. One big thing I noticed about The Painter is that the “police reports” don’t look like police reports at all. In my opinion, a big issue would be fixed if it did what Mandela Catalogue did and have a large variety in its formula. It still probably wouldn’t have fixed the entire series, but it would have at least made it interesting. A protagonist would have made things nice, as well.
@voidlesskitten92863 ай бұрын
I think it would be funny if these weren't "police tapes" at all but made by the Painter to mock/make fun of the police that the protag found? Then you can have actual police tapes mixed in that have way less detail or have details the Painter left out.

Some more tips that could help since I do wanna make my own rewrite on urban spooks the painter series, I’d make the sorta look more long legs esq, show less on the actual gore unless needed And have the painter be hidden in areas as we look ourselves in where they may be. I think the gore would be good if it was used as a COMPANION for the story, not as a PILLAR for the whole thing. Urbanspook would be a good Analog Horror if it had a minimun plot, a decent story and the principal were well-constructed. But, it only have free edgy gore. Like, we don't even have a reason for the killer kill people with such cruelty. He doesn't have a pattern (He kills only familys or children or older people or women) and neither a Modus Operantis, I mean, he leave the paintings, but, why EXACTLY he annihilate or torture the victims this way? Jigsaw create his mortal traps based on the """sin""" that the player commited, this mf not. (Sorry for the bad english).

If the series isn't already concluded, my suggestion would be to have this guy be writing the entire thing and putting it on a VHS tape to make his fantasy of being a killer seem real to himself. Like those people who act hard and scary and insane when it's really cringe. He gets kicked out after his parents(let's say he's a basement dweller) find the tapes and throw them out with him, as they also walk in on the man painting THEIR bodies next as he's become so deluded about his fantasy that he thinks he can do it just because he planned it for so long. He started committing real murders and UrbanSpook's creator hires some VA to speak like officers, a recording that asks a child about her parents as they were the most recent victims of the Painter. She goes home and starts recording on her phone as the foster home is broken into. Let's say the kid is 10. She is equally as fucked up thanks to the internet yet way more smart than normal people, even ones that aren't tainted by the media. She has more common sense and even raised herself due to her extremely abusive and disgusting household. She records the break in and explores the damage the intruder had caused in the building as the caretakers seemed to sleep through it. The daughter is unaware where the man is. She doesn't even know it's him but as anyone would, has that paranoia that her family's killer is out for her next, like a missed trophy. After about 5-10 minutes of looking, he has her in a room that would be perfect to destroy her life, and her "innocence". Then she starts beating him and near crippling the Painter as it fades to black with them somehow ending up in the woods as this kid tries to burn the man alive, being cruel as well. And we are just left with the thought of the future's predictions. Even maybe expecting that girl to become the next Painter.

The first two (and pretty much any other good horror - hell, any other good fiction,) have convinced you that things happen through defined processes and for defined reasons, and sometimes the reasons and processes are even scarier than the things that happen themselves. You don't actually even have to learn what they are, as long as the story has convinced you that they exist you'll do the extra work yourself. In urbanspook, things happen cause they're _sPoOoKy_ and both the why and how are just ignored - not just left out of what you see, it doesn't even bother to try and get you to imagine them at all.

Tbh urban could've saved himself a ton of backlash and trouble by just promoting his art and music like he wanted as is. Like it wouldn't have been that hard to make a name for himself uploading speed paint vids of his work with his music in the background, maybe with The Painter being his persona for it and adding little hints and clues throughout about the "inspiration" (aka the murders) for people to ponder on. It would've been 10x more interesting than Super Scary Slideshow #69 about Michael McGee getting his bones removed and his eyeballs replaced with his nuts or whatever and a painting named "Michael McGees Nut Eyes" being left behind

I honestly want to create a sort of "UrbanSPOOK Retold" where I rewrite everything, maybe like an ARG. Two KZbin channels, one about an old man painter and another about a young girl who does digital art. The old man's channel is that he showcases paintings he's made, but as the videos keep getting posted, stuff like (FAKE) 911 calls and ominous footage gets intercut with it. Then the girl's channel keeps going until there's a video titled HELP or something, then back on the old man painter's channel, you get footage of the girl intercut with it and she idk tells on the old man and he ends up unliving himself in a gorefest idk

I think it's funny to me that even his main selling point is so empty: the paintings themselves. Like they really are just the edgiest things he could think of with not a lot of substance. Compare that too the mimics from Vita Carnis, an unnatural predator trying to appear human, and gets closer with each successful hunt. Or the Gabrielle Alternate, a horrible visage of a religious being copied by a demon to trick mankind. Hell, I've lost sleep over the boiled one, not only is that monster truly disturbing to look at, but the connection to a real-world war criminal just elevates it so much.
@modeus_edits.3 ай бұрын
Yea, like, I have vivid hallucinations often and The Boiled One has been the scariest offender yet (to the point I didn't even sleep for a whole night when usually I fall asleep within 5 minutes, 15 if I'm thinking of something scary). Even Mandela Catalogue has had me scared, making me jump at every little bang and keeping a close eye on the doors or dark corners of my room whenever I try to sleep. But Urban Spook? I just kinda giggled. I have yet to look at media surrounding Urban Spook and think that it was scary, nor Urban Spook itself. The killer and his methods may be gruesome and "shocking" (well, as gruesome as that goofy 4chan creepypasta looking face can get) but it doesn't leave you with any existential dread as many other series do. I'm sorry I'm kinda meat riding Doctor Nowhere right now but his work disturbs me to no end in the best way possible. T.O.E had me scared of my computer and TV for a good week in case "The Love Thumper" decided to work his way through, the boy and the bath was creepy and left people to work out what the monster was talking about for themselves rather than overexplaining everything, and the oddities still have me sleeping with a cold fan to this day. (Filbus is love, Filbus is life. Eat a chair today!!) Sorry for rambling on, especially in a reply section, but I'm very passionate about analogue horror and horror in general

I like how Wendigoon explained it in regards to shock horror and how it should be applied. (I am trying to remember exactly what Isaiah said, please correct me if I am wrong!) The reason he was okay with horrific and shocking things happening to people, especially a kid in Vita Carnis (Species Anomaly report. SCARY) was because he felt it "earned the right", due to the effort put into the series (very good practical effects, attention to story and plot.). Urbanspook just thinks up as many atrocities as he can, draws some spooky pictures (which are pretty good quality, i will admit.), glues it all together, and calls it an analogue horror.

That is my only issue with the “leave stuff to the audience’s imagination” rule on the horror genre. It works as a classic horror trope and should be treated as an optimal plot device but the idea that horror can’t work from the creator’s physical, on-screen depictions doesn’t sit right with me. The fear of the unknown as a horror tactic should be encouraged as one of the top affective aspects of horror but not a limit to material.

I don't know why, but I was actually kind of intrigued by the idea at first and it actually had potential. Maybe the villains and the murders would be more interesting if maybe one of them was just a painter who lost his family in a brutal way or maybe even lost a body part or something, while the other killer was just an evil person and he manipulated the painter into becoming a killer too. Maybe the victims could be connected to the painter, maybe they were people who threatened him badly and the way he killed the victims was also related to how those people threatened him.
