most likely was beacause andretti made a big fuss with the arab part of liberty, and is not well liked in the grid, this was definitly personal, but to be fair the biggest logistic reason was renault trashing their engine department, and mercedes and ferrari denying andretti (clearly because of past feud) so they would not have a engine deal, by that time honda wasnt on the grid back yet and redbull is not obligated to have costumer deals so they might have ended in a situation with no engine suplier or with a super bad deal with ferrari.

Maffei has been fired and has no power now (and no one volunteers to moves on from a powerful and lucrative position without a better gig, which Maffei does not have.) 2. Why would Maffei have said such a thing? What made Maffei so furious at America's famous racing family? Andretti's confrontational/abrasive approach? No, I think that just gets an emphatic "NO". Recall that the United States senate moved to launch a DOJ investigation into F1 anti-competitive tactics. This investigation could have resulted in the government looking at Liberty Media much more closely, including financials and tax issues. Now, if Liberty very much want to avoid such scrutiny Maffei's harsh rejection and words to Mario can be seen as a serious blunder.

I looked at the teams that were in favour of Michael Andretti's bold initiative to enter F1 and who were against. Only McLaren and Alpine were for Andretti being in F1 and I find myself asking whether the others have no vision and additionally lack the courage to see F1 itself grow. For them it's better the ( devil ) ten you know than the eleven with an element of the unknown. I'm glad things are about to change but I lament that the name of Andretti may not be as prominent. A sad reflection of the absence as I said of courage to take F1 to another higher level and the presence of not a little envy too perhaps. Given that Michael Andretti has driven the project this far it would have been fitting that his name does not fade away as the project becomes a reality and grows with the passage of time.
