And this is why, as much of a Disney homer I am, I really hope Epic Universe eats the Mouse's lunch for the next 5 years. It'll prove that innovation and creativity are worth it and hopefully lead to a pivot, Also I admittedly bopped along to that background music throughout the whole video 😂

What I appreciate so much about this video is that it’s clearly built out of love for theme parks and a high quality experience for all guests. If we accept (or in the case of LL purchases, encourage) a lower standard, quality will deteriorate indefinitely. 13:37 "Not just profit, but a juggernaut." Hey, I'm a big Chewbacca fan. I thought Solo was a great movie about a Wookiee and his boy, and a departure from the story of the dysfunctional Skywalker family. But there won't be a sequel. Are there good Han and Chewie stories to tell? Yes. Was it profitable? Yes, despite the expense of a reshoot. But was it mindbendingly overwhelmingly profitable like every other Star Wars movie? No. Well, if it isn't a juggernaut, no sequel for you. Sorry, fans.
@KevKageNeedsALife5 ай бұрын
It’s a very similar space with the studios. That biz model is obviously broken. That’s a whole other story haha. And poor Solo had a bunch of other stuff working against it that had nothing to do with the story. If Epic Universe is only fawned over by the hardcore fans but doesn’t resonate resoundingly with the general public, it’s hard to see a future where anyone puts that kind effort or money into a park again.

These people have built their whole adult personalities around a theme park, and if the Park changes, then who are these people who refuse to change themselves? They also think for some reason, repeated attendance to the Parks means they get a say in what goes in. The Imagineers only get some of a say about what goes into the Parks and it's their job. Everyone forgets the Board controls the pursestrings and if they don't like something, it won't come to be. In short, people like the Parks because it's a the same experience every time, mostly. We joke about living Groundhog's Day when we work there. So when things change, these people using the Parks as escapism get all worked up because the change breaks their illusion.

Boy is this video chillingly accurate! I remember the Disney of old and how much better it was. I saw someone argue that Disney doesn’t put in the effort to properly maintain and update older rides and then when people stop riding them because the experience just isn’t the same, then Disney points to that as a reason to remove and replace the ride. The example I saw given lately is Dinosaur at Animal Kingdom. That’s about to be replaced with a new Indiana Jones ride because the ridership of Dinosaur has not surprisingly gone down. But when you ride it you can see why…. The animatronics are shells of their former glory. The attraction is showing its age but that’s mainly because Disney didn’t put in the effort to keep the attraction looking good, so why would anyone but die hard fans want to ride it? Maybe the new Indiana Jones replacement will be new and exciting or, more likely, it’ll just be a lazy copy of what’s at Disneyland and won’t even fit in very thematically with Animal Kingdom…

There are 2 sides to every 'debate'. When you remove civility the debate becomes an outright fight. The internet removes personal interaction, which empowers people to say things they never would in person. I completely avoid polarizing discussions online, because they never stay 'discussions'.

@justinfriedrich57415 ай бұрын
Ok, to be honest true people get upset because of nostalgia. However, sometime people are upset because they never bin on it. I mean the Disney parks no matter where you are the guests are not going to ride every single attraction like they are planning. True that they think just ok is ok, but creativity has to be more than just ok it’s an art. No matter where it is art matters whether if it’s a parent that their kids made a just ok stick figures to place on the fridge, a colorful presentation of the food to enjoy it, or to immerse yourself in the imagination whether it’s parks, movies, or shows. As Gordon Ramsey says, “Your only good as your last dish.” True change is necessary to make money, but also the change have to have experience for people to come back. After all, it’s the people that matter to Disney whether it’s the guests or the cast member. Imagine a picture of a ghost town in the Wild West where basically you can see nothing there except dusty old shops and not a trace of life. Then all of a sudden Tefitti comes just to play in the sand next to the ghost town. After that people are pretty much confuse because there are two contradicting art pieces right in each others sight lines. The confusion doesn’t actually come from the ride itself unless ridden, it actually comes from the sight lines. Once a sight line is broken, then is it really that immersive. Sure, people say it’s just ok but sometimes just ok isn’t really what it is or what it was. Just ok is what you say to a kid when they are upset. Just ok as an adult kind of means they messed up and no amount of praise can fix that.

For sure! Art is subjective, effort is not

I haven't been back to the parks since 2010 and my opinion is based on memories and I think I would be very weirded out by going back and seeing how much has changed. I do want to go back and actually ride Tower of Terror since I chickened out of that. Is it worth it to go back for that? I don't know. Whatever Disney does people will visit anyway so stuff is just going to keep changing if they can save a buck.
@KevKageNeedsALife5 ай бұрын
Tower of Terror is pretty sweet. A very unique experience - peak Disney! And honestly if you haven’t been in a while, you might find some things more annoying (and expensive) but you’ll have a good time. Also worth considering checking out Epic Universe next year since that’ll be brand new and you can make an opinion with no frame of reference!

@@KevKageNeedsALife It's mostly the annoying and expensive part (Hello Lightning Lane replacing fastpass) that I'm worried about but I do want to go. Never been to Universal either so I could wrap it all up into a big money burner in a few years. I know I would have a good time and when I'm on vacation I try not to think about the money aspect if I have budgeted for it properly. Great video though. All great points. I'm hoping the creative side will win out and Epic Universe is a massive success. Might be worth tossing my money that way to help guarantee it.

Idk the Tom Sawyer island is kinda meh and outdated imo, why are we upset with new things to try and excite people. Though i really hope they find something to do with the River boats as those to me has a nice touch of history and are pretty cool to look at and walk on. Though i would be super sad if muppet 3d goes away, it's the only thing muppets we have left in the parks.
@KevKageNeedsALife5 ай бұрын
I agree about Tom Sawyer Island for sure. The river though - it’s great scenery and ambience - anyone can put rides on concrete, what made Disney different is the beauty of the landscape. No doubt the rides will be fun, but it feels like a decision made for the wrong reasons IMO. They better not touch the Muppets!! 😄

This video feels like a youtuber who is complaining about people who are complaining about the state that Disney is in. I mean theme park guests have every right to be upset with Disney and its attractions. The cost, the experience, waiting in lines, rides randomly not working as they should, among other reasons too. Where else should people vent or rant where they forked 1000s of their hard working money for a questionable experience for adults, to a multi-billion dollar company? The video opens up with "Internet = bad" while showing how people truly feel about the theme parks.
