4ever young will have to get better and that trainer knows what he's doing. But don't pick him just because you liked him in k.d. 100 buyer in k.d. 100 buyer by prkness winner not up to 111 buyer in travers. Hats off to k.mcpeek 4 running mystic dan in all 3 races then takiking on the travers with a female. Didn't duck anyone like fierceness did. 4ever young in k.d. got bothered by the 12 track phantom out of gate and Don the strech by sierra leone. Fact. But I think sierra leone better than fierceness. S.l. has got better every race something our 3yr old can't say 4ever young might get better we ll see. But I'm leaning towards derma sotogake a 4yr old 6month layoff since his k.d. and ran 2nd in b.c. classic last year. That's big off a 6 month layoff with no preps. And who knows what with city of troy ranked higher than fierceness. Gd Luck but I like the other japan horse not the closer ushba .

@JasonLaveck I agree but has to get much better by speed figures. His trainer was up in the air about running him in k.d. cause he don't like kickback and still almost won. I just giving friendly warning cause so many fans stick with their horse they picked b4. Big mistake. I'm leaning 2wards the 4yr old derma but final decision comes after studying day b4.

Judging by how quickly Thorpedo Anna was gaining on him at the end of the Travers, Fierceness was getting pretty leg-weary. The BCC is run over the same distance. I'm a fan, but I'm not confident that he's reliable at a mile and a quarter.

1. He ran further than Thorpedo Anna in Travers. 2.) It's only 1 1/4 mile race. That's as far as they get. LOL. The goal of a horse race isn't to go slow a the beginning so that you can be "coming like a freight train late". The idea is to get to the finish line first. Fierceness jockey and Thorpedo Anna's jockey BOTH knew the race was 1 1/4. They both were trying to use their horse to get to the 1 1/4 mile mark first. Fierceness did that. 3.) Anna isn't going to BCC. Her owners/trainer don't have confidence in her to be able to win the Classic.

Fierceness was 4 wide on the first turn and 3 wide on the second turn in the Travers, while Thorpedo Anna hugged the rail sitting in the cat bird's seat until the top of the stretch. He gave up about 6 lengths of ground loss on the turns to her and still beat her. He also gave her a 5lb weight concession in the Travers and that weight concession will only be 3lbs in the BC Classic. In addition, the BC Classic, while run at the same distance will now be run at Del Mar, which tends to play much more favorably than Saratoga to horses on or very near the lead at 1 1/4. Hope people keep hyping Sierra Leone and keep pounding him on the win end too - a sucker horse on the win end that is completely pace dependent. City of Troy is a very nice horse, but he still has never run on dirt so he's got that question to answer. Forever Young ran a great KD, but having not run since the KD it is hard to take him seriously on the win end. Thorpedo Anna will definitely be a threat as well if they run her in the Classic, but she is no lock and there is no guarantee she will have any easier time trying to close against Fierceness at Del Mar than she did at Saratoga.

However, Forever DID just run in and win the Japan Classic Dirt, so he has a prep that shouldn't have been too taxing, since he wasn't facing the toughest dirt field, but should set him up fitness-wise. One could argue that he's the most consistent performer on dirt among likely candidates for the Classic. I sort of doubt that T Anna will go in the Classic. She's only three and would have another chance to try it if they race her at four. If she retires after this season, she'd have a better chance to go out a winner by entering the Distaff. Beating older champion Idiomatic would be a great feather in her cap.

Fierceness is a very good horse no doubt but I am singing the song “Forever Young, Forever Young, I wanna be Forever Young.” If I was a betting person maybe I would quit my job on the Kentucky Derby because I had Mystic Dan, forever young and Sierra Leon as my top three horses and the Mystic Dan was my key horse to win.I am very good at picking winners, years ago when I use to bet in 1996 or do I went to Gulfstrram Park in Florida to bet $100 to win on a horse name Built For Pleasure in the Fountain of Youth Stakes but the horse went off at 99-1 and the odds scare me and I only put $2 to win and show and keyed the horses who came second “ Unbridled Song “ for first and second in the trifecta. Built For Pleasure won and paid $288 to win and the trifecta paid over four grand, up until day I still feel like besting myself for changing my mind and let the long odds scare me.

Should, yes. That's what makes this years race intriguing. Son of Justify, never ran on dirt, and is now the likely 1 or 2 favorites in the BCC. Barbaro only ran on grass then smoked everyone in the 2006 Kentucky Derby. So it is possible. Trainer must know something.

I am not convinced that on merit that he is the best of these. His scrambling win over the filly Thorpedo Anna in his last race was far from convincing. He was also well behind the Japanese based 3 year old Forever Young in their only meeting. Intriguing race with so many champions from different continents. Difficult to handicap.
