Never-the-less, from one Christian brother to another, I so appreciate your love for Christ and how your try to share that love to others around you where you live as this video shows. I will never meet you in this life, but I am very excited that I have the hope of meeting you and your family when we all are gathered together at Christ's table. You have so encouraged me with your faith and I hope to encourage you. May Jesus come soon and remove us from this awful place. I don’t mean to criticize, or seem envious. it’s been amazing to watch your KZbin journey over the years, and the success it’s brought into your lives....You deserve every bit of it. I need to say this though.... I was originally drawn to this channel because it promotes tools and skills that are obtainable by the common working man. I think it’s safe to say that a very small percentage of the population can afford something such as a brand new diesel hydraulic wood processor. Most of us probably couldn’t even afford the parts to maintain or repair it. I think we have to be realistic here. Me personally, I would like to see a more in-depth video on the drip torch. Safe use and practices with it. What not to do etc. Simpler things like that are invaluable to someone like me....especially when it’s delivered by a knowledgeable and experienced person like you.....on just about any tool. Thank you to whoever took the time to read my comment. I know you probably don’t have much spare time. Much love to the Wranglerstar family!

what if you make that sopping bar for the size of the log a solid bar that doesnt move unless you make it change size, that way the top of the log hits it and it won't fall until its all cut, and should fall straight

Possible fix for the splitting issue. The manufacturer could install a "holding platform" for the round once it's cut. They could make it concave so as to cradle the round. A lever at the control panel could connect to this platform, which acts as a trap door. The round falls onto the hydraulic ram path, oriented properly.

@wranglerstar, why not try a slightly longer cut to see if it falls correctly or weld two temp bars in so it has to drop correctly. I could see an improvement on not only a bigger bar with more power but two bars so when one is down the other keeps going

8:10 My thoughts on a solution is for the next version to have a catch basket that supports the end of the log while being cut and once the cut is complete will open to drop the cut off down in the proper orientation. The drawback is added cost and complexity.
@8Jory
@8Jory 2 жыл бұрын
Just make that little orange rod a bit stiffer and it should help a lot to stop the log from pivoting forward. The problem appears to come from the wood hinging on the last few attached fibres as he said. If the top end of the round was prevented from dropping too far then it shouldn't flip on end. There's a balance that needs to be found there somewhere between the logs getting flipped with a floppy stop, and pinching the saw with a stop that's too rigid.

Regarding the harvester bar problem. Perhaps instead of having the round drop down they could have a hydraulically actuated platform at the out-feed that would lift while the harvester bar cuts. Then it would drop down so the plunger would push the round through the splitter mechanism.

Great machine Mr. Wranglerstar , as for the pieces that fall awkwardly , over the years I’ve pruned and wrecked many trees in my time , I think the reason that they fall and may tumble is because the balance of the wood piece , wood is not dimensional in weight , like a perfect balanced square or a round circle . there’s parts of the tree that have tension wood and compression wood , which means the piece of wood round may be lighter or heavier on one side , when it is cut or severed it may fall in a specific way to do the way it weighs hopefully this helps the non wood folks understand Joe

That machine is a beast! As far as the dull chains causing the cutoffs to flip sideways; would a short, two or three inch wide, curved piece of metal, angled downward and directly underneath the piece being cut, prevent that from happening, by sort of funneling the cut down into that crib? I like the way that one hand washed the other with you and Dyna, and that in the process you were able to provide much needed fuel for so many homes. That's real community building!

There is a hydraulic adjustment to change the cutting speed. It’s a knob you turn to make it have more down pressure on the cutting bar. If I remember correctly its behind the control table. The harvester chain is perfect for the machine. Of course the chain has to be sharp to cut properly.

The bar saw should be replaced with a circular saw, but that’s a much higher risk when hitting metal. I work for a logging company that uses a firewood processor with a smaller circular saw as well as larger circular saw slashers for the grapple cranes for processing logs in the wood yard. I’ve been told that a loose tooth coming off of the slasher blade (4-5 ft diameter) has the same force as a 9mm hand gun round.

Honestly to stop big logs from turning sideway you only need to add some kind of solid bar in place of that orange thingy. When the log is cut nearly all the way, round would try to rotate, top would hit the bar, and it would only fall after log is cut all the way trough.

You need a guide type stop right next to the switch that stops the advance stroke. it would hold the log from tipping over until the entire cut was accomplished . Then the cutoff would drop straight down. You would have to make it adjustable until you arrived at a position that would work for all types and sizes of rounds.

Cody, It looked like when you made the second 14 inch cut the log was tight to the orange stop gauge and therefore this subtle force allowed the round to fall in the correct orientation and not to roll around and make itself difficult for you. Might have just been a lucky one but I'm sure there was a very slight gap between the orange stopper and the log being processed on the first cut?

I’m not wizard or anything. But not renting, but say that was yours and you owned it, you could set bars on the side that are like a spring type loaded? Like the 14inch cuts on each that stop bar. But like on the sides that would allow you to have bigger and smaller pieces without having to manually use them. But it would be something that “you” or anyone who owned thoes would have to make.

Impressive machine, to solve the drop out issue suggest the addition of an adjustable sprung bracket at the log length gauge (or replace) to prevent the previous cut face from tilting forward and falling irregularly into the splitter.

My opinion to reduce the wood turning sideways after the cut, have a solid stop for the wood as it enters the machine. With a solid stop verses the stop rod the stick is not able to pivot downward but instead it will stay level until the cut is finished and then drop straight down. Simple!

CAT in my opinion is hands down the best Diesel built! It’s sad that they no longer make engines for commercial trucks for on road use. They got tired of trying to keep up on ever changing emission laws. They said the laws are so stringent that they could not make a reliable and well functioning engine for the consumer. They still make them for heavy equipment and commercial grade off road machines obviously. I appreciate your work.

If you had nice big straight logs like Cody had and had someone keeping the deck loaded and you didn't have to worry about delivery I think 20 cords in a day is reasonable.

Impressive machine.....Idea 1-Maybe you can work/try on a selution for the fall off the cutoff, by adding some sort of a V-shaped sturcture in such a way it guides the cutoff down gently keeping it orientated, maybe two wooden planks at 1st, just thought. 2-Something I though about before is if manufascturers can put your serviceble filters mounted in a seperate cabinate maring it "service" you open a door, and their are all your filters, just a thought.

I wonder if there is a way to provide more hydraulic pressure to the chain saw to give it more cutting power not just more push against the wood , often times there are ways to adjust hydraulic systems and a very small increase can go a long way , not a diy repair because of the high pressure of a hydraulic system but I would look into the feasibility of that

I've seen videos of these with large circular saw blades but I don't know how long it stays sharp.

I saw the small saw dust and thought the chain was dull. Need bigger chips/saw dust coming from that bar!

7:55 if there was a clamping piston on either side of the round being cut that released as soon as the saw retracted, it'd control the fall the way you want

Use a small beveled 45 degree ramp for the cut wood to slide down and with beveled sides on it, it will stay in the proper orientation

Just an fyi for the future... you can turn up the down pressure for the saw bar...

Does this machine cut a round while splitting a round? Seems like the ram could have a “cradle” type thing almost level with the log so while splitting you can be cutting and when the splitting ram retracts the round will most certainly not flip and fall down into the cradle. Need a fast retract on the ram tho. Maybe a variable speed knob to control the speed of the cut so you make sure to drop the round drops onto the cradle at the right time and adjust for different species. Overlapping functions is where the real speed happens. I love solving problems like this!!! Build it Wranglerstar!!!!

A V-shaped trough that catches the cut log closer to the hight where it is cut. Then the trough opens "quickly" and the cut piece will land perfectly in the splitter trough.

Some processors drop the cutoff log in two steps. The log is offset from the splitter. The operator hits the control to flip the round into the splitting chamber. The cycle time looks really fast and the statistics are good also, cords per hour. Dyna has a lesser processor also. The big round circular blades are ruined by hitting steel also.
