These swing thoughts of holding my back/shoulders to the target as long as possible has changed my game OTT. I am in play way more often from the tee and RARELY hit a slice anymore. I suffered from firing too fast which always resulted in bad contact or a slice 35-40% of the time. Basically, my swing thought now when stepping up to the tee is keep my head still and delay my shoulders. It "slows" me down and keeps my sequencing way better! Thanks.

Awesome video explaining the reason for the high right and low left. Especially needed to be heard from a former baseball player. My question is are the same principles of the feels of hands first and not the hips used for wedges and all irons?
@QegureziАй бұрын
The point is great but the hips have clearly fired a fraction ahead of the arms, and hard. I get the feel vs real but the hips did contribute plenty. Having said this i will be going out doing this drill next visit to the course 😂...keep up the great content. Apart from semantics this clip is GOLD.
@PorzakGolfАй бұрын
Thank you! As far as the hips moving a fraction first…That’s not the point! I’ve been standing on a range, watching countless golfers, being told to fire their hips first who hit glancing cuts, and blocks to the right. This is because of golf instructions overall inability to teach the feeling of what the best players actually feel in order to create what actually happens. that’s the whole point to what Tiger and I are saying… the hands feel like they’re traveling first and faster from the top to remain connected and have the inside and outside horse hit the finish line together. Teaching what actually happens in the setup, the takeaway, the turn to top of the swing can be literally taught. 99 out of 100 players I work with when told to fire their hips from the top completely spin out and are way out of sequence. That’s why this instruction is so important to understand! I see the positive effects 100% of the time when I help my players understand hand speed and the importance of doing it…I then see how it actually helps people rotate their hips and open up more because they swing with freedom, don’t get stuck and have to wait for their arms and hands to have to catch up to their body!

Omg i was just lost playing with driver. I can play iron wedge wood all solid and compress. But driver slice. This is really related to me. My swing is like body shift and my head was on the top of the ball / ahead of it (hitting like iron / hit down ) that cause me slice and very confuse wheres my fault. So the key is staying center while still shift weight. Dangg , thanks Coach! I will try it
@RippleRelicsАй бұрын
Porzak- love the content always! Would you say technically the hands start the down swing then? I was always told it was the hips.. thanks!
@PorzakGolfАй бұрын
When you look at what literally happens, the hips start rotating first, but if you had to ask many of the best in the world what the feeling is to be able to make sure the hips and the hands work together, they would tell you that they feel their hands first and faster from the top! The problem with most golf instruction is they look at a video of a great player and try to teach what they see happening in the video, completely unaware of what it feels like for that player to actually look like that. I’ve been standing on a range teaching a lot of players for a long time who’ve been told to fire their hips first and most of them hit big glancing cuts and blocks especially with their longer clubs! Thanks for the comment and question!

You move your hands, arms, and grip fast from the top until roughly what point before letting them decelerate? (rear hip? in front of rear leg?). What direction do you feel like your hands (or arms) move? Straight down (from where there were at the top toward the ground)? Towards a part of your rear foot or rear leg? Underneath the shoulders? Some other direction? Thanks in advance

Look at the replay slow motion on your first swing! You literally rotated your hips more than 90 degrees!!! ?

@@PorzakGolf I have been initiating the downswing with rotation and i can strike my irons well enough, but driver is weak fade, slice, or pull hook. @PorzakGolfАй бұрын
Great question! I would refer back to our previous videos talking about the hip bump, and how it unlocks your turn and the ability to rotate and what you can do wrong when bumping your hip… because if there is any restriction, it comes from just not quite doing it correctly

@scottjeamel6561Ай бұрын
Great video as always. Given your horse race comparison i would assume you would teach the same philosophy with irons as well?
@PorzakGolfАй бұрын
Absolutely, but we find the feel of faster hands, and keeping the back to the target helps the transition with a driver the most and is necessary for a lot of players simply to remain connected in the swing.
@mooseknuckle07Ай бұрын
Because of my lower back issues and injuries due to heavy labour, I have a pretty short back swing. Which leads to bad sync with the driver. Any tips for that?
@JohnMoore-h7sАй бұрын
It looks like you move your lower body more to set up a brace for your arms to actively swing the club through. Is that what you are feeling or is the lower body the trigger that starts your torso and arms through the ball? So the arms are not passively being carried through by the lower body move?
@handeerandeeАй бұрын
Should we think about the back staying to the target longer only with driver, or irons and wedges alike?
@PorzakGolfАй бұрын
With the driver, the outside horse(club head) is much farther from the inside horse(body’s center) than a wedge, so naturally, a wedge swing is easier to stay connected and can feel that everything is moving together more than the driver. With the driver, this feel is much more relevant.

Is it possible to overdo the fast hands from the top? Like, getting them too much ahead of the body. Would that close the face too much in relation with the path? Or only if you stop rotating. You say to always be rotating, so Im assuming that in this case it’s not really possible to get the hands too much ahead? When I slow down my body and think fast hands sometimes I hit snap hooks so Im wondering if thats just me not rotating
@tmc3980Ай бұрын
Yeah I do this too. My solution is short swings. Connection. You can’t rely on only the hands with a short swing.
@PorzakGolfАй бұрын
we’ve never seen anybody have their hands be too fast… if that’s what the player feels the mistake is, it is a misconception because their body has shut down through impact and as a result the player feels their arms and hands through impact hitting the ball isolated of the body. This is bc of the disconnection that happened going back or in transition. We have players say that to us sometimes and then they realize it’s never the case. Once they understand connection to the top and how to make sure their hands fire with their hips on the downswing they realize that sensation was bc the body was already out in front of the hands at some point before that!
@jmaltais100Ай бұрын
Thank you very much for the detailed explanation, it will help me work on this! You guys are the best
@dansapp6619Ай бұрын
you mentioned in a few videos that playing golf under you is easier than around you I'm positive thats what I'm doing wrong as when I was playing well the swing felt under me. Can you explain what would cause you to start swinging around you? you also mentioned in another video of being bent over below the waist but stood up with the upper body? I'm thinking they relate but don't understand exactly what to work on?
@PorzakGolfАй бұрын
Playing golf underneath you versus playing golf around you is often dictated in the setup! When the player sits back in the heels and the upper body is too upright, they will start swinging around their body, but when they are on the balls of their feet with the shoulders tilted past the toes the player then has freedom to swing underneath them. This results in a straighter path, more square club face, and better angle of attack.

The guys talk about getting your hands back to where they started. I'd say look up hand path videos with them. Personally I'd say hands out is the worst teaching on the internet. They might do that but intentionally taking your hands out is at a minimum a trip to shanksville. See what he's saying at 6:18
@brianschultz7320Ай бұрын
I like the feeling of a nice patient transition with gravity taking the hands. My tendency is to rush my transition and it gets too fast. Just depends on ur tendencies.
@PorzakGolfАй бұрын
I support what they are implying but drop is not the correct word. The best players hands accelerate while the back remains to the target. This allows the hands to move down in front of the body before opening up, but just letting them drop is not the correct way as the arms and hands will still get stuck behind the body’s rotation when trying to execute based upon this terminology.
@stanleycollymore1110Ай бұрын

@SmoothELandsАй бұрын
The hips will always go automatically. It's virtually impossible to not have the hips go first in a swing (despite what old golf instruction would say). It's the fact that your hips have a much shorter rotational distance to cover than your arms and hands, that most people need to feel like they start their arms and hands first. We're talking about milliseconds here.
@xxthadeucexxАй бұрын
@@SmoothELands I don't disagree at all but saying there's no rotation in a video where the rotation is readily apparent is a bit nuts.
@SmoothELandsАй бұрын
@@xxthadeucexx I suppose language wise it's a bit misleading, I agree with you there. I think it's more the feeling he's describing. Rewatching that segment his hip only rotates back a couple of inches. At any rate, I wouldn't swing like that for fear of what it would do to my back lol.
