We started to takes off said boots, then they told us we didn't have to. First guy goes through and it triggers the alarm. After a lot of angry talk from TSA, they determine it's his boots and tell him to step back and take his boots off. They wave me forward. I point down and say "I am also wearing steel toes. Let me take them off" they tell me no, and to come through. I also set off the alarm. I try and tell them it's the boots, but they take several minutes to figure that out. Rinse and repeat for my coworker behind me. It was one of the dumbest interactions I have ever had with TSA 😑

5:17 pressurization and turbulence have nothing to do with each other. Turbulence is bumps in the air and pressurization means they pump breathable air in so you can fly at higher altitudes without choking everyone.
@johnmcnally781212 күн бұрын
Could pressurised cabins not mean that they can fly at a higher altitude and avoid a lot of turbulence?
@ilmarilah119512 күн бұрын
@@johnmcnally7812 yeah, I don’t know a lot about why those bumps exist in the airstream but I’d assume that there’s less of them higher.
@sillyjellyfish242111 күн бұрын
@ilmarilah1195 they exist because air is fluid. It has warm spots and cool spots that rise and fall at different rates. Usually, high up above the ground the air had had enough time to mix around and even out so you are only left out with air currents which are massive and move across waste spaces. The stuff you see forming cloud systems in weather reports. But sometimes, especially when 2 or more such systems are close to each other, they end up clashing. The air within one current is mostly even and the air within the other is too, but those two currents aren't the same. So they mix and churn and create little spots where they turn around or slow down. These areas are called turbulences and they can be anywhere from few hundreds of meters in size that only registers like a bump or two while flying to several tens of kilometers that take minutes to pass by. Airplanes are generally trying to evade these by monitoring the weater picking the smoothest route between the airport A and the airport B, but if you have to go east to west and there are 2 fronts clashing north to south, at some point the plane just HAS to pass through the border between them. Pilots know that they are going there because they have live connection to the forecast so they put in the warning so everyone can sit down and hold their stuff so it doesn't fly everywhere. As for why it feels like falling or rapidly going up, it's not that the airplane lost its ability to move straight. It still goes straight through the air. The problem is that the whole chunk of the air it is a part of is also moving up or down compared to other chunks of air around
@algorythm435410 күн бұрын
Yeah this wasn't explained properly, and I can't help but think this was because Tugg was just reading off an article somewhere. I had to think about it myself for a second or two but @johnmvnally7812 is correct; turbulence is generally caused by differences in air temperature or updrafts from structures such as skyscrapers and mountains, but so far above the ground (30k feet is the sweet spot), the air temp is usually more consistent and the effect from structures is greatly reduced. You still have clear air turbulence and wake turbulence, but eliminating (some of) the other influences makes for a smoother ride.
@justhearmeout9 күн бұрын
@ilmarilah1195 jetstreams and turbulence don't have a set altitude, and it changes constantly. It could be bumpy at 35o and smooth at 25o or vice versa. Think of it as going down a river and trying to avoid rapids but in 3 dimensions as opposed to terrestrial 2 dimensional conveyance. Gotta find the sweet spot. Planes can and do change altitude often several times during the flight to try to give the best ride possible.

Leave your window open or overhead light on if she can come by you. If you want to keep a little candy for yourself, go ahead but please don’t keep the nerds. 2 years ago my family took a flight across the country and it was absolutely terrible. This year we decided to drive the same distance and I'm not convinced you will ever find me on a plane again, at least not for personal use. The only downside is we took 4 days each way as opposed to one hellacious day each way. I've done it in one 24hr day which I'll never willingly do again, but two 12 hour days is more than possible. The level of chill to just drive a little, stop and see the sights, and drive a little more is easily enough to offset the "lost" time.

The Wright Brothers made a flying machine that was catapult-assisted for takeoff. First public fully self-propelled and unaided takeoff was Santos Dumond in Brazil, 1906
@marinayoko860412 күн бұрын
yes! Thanks for your comment
@confusedbakugo137312 күн бұрын
Wrong. The Wright Flyer was not catapult assisted. It ran along a launch rail solely used because it didn't have wheels. The Wright Flyers' record distance flown in 1903 was 260m, 40m longer than Santos Dumonts longest flight with 14-bis in 1906 which by the way, was in Paris, not Brazil. 14-bis was also nearly uncontrollable compared to the Wright Flyer. Wright Flyer III, though it *was* launched by a catapult, flew for 39 min, 23 sec for 38.9km under its own power, with fully controllable movement and landed safely. It was the first practical airplane. That was in 1905, a year before 14-bis.
@biacarniel9 күн бұрын
@ youre right, the first flight was not in Brazil, Dumond was Brazilian, that’s what I tried to say. By the info u provided, Dumont still has the first full self propelled flight (that flew around the tower so Idk about it being uncontrollable like you said). I’m not saying the wright brothers are not super important for aviation, I admire a lot, just trying to add the facts. IMO saying one is equal to the other is like saying using a wingsuit means you are flying because you stayed in the air for half an hour
@J.Millhouse7 күн бұрын
@@biacarnielthat’s not a good analogy though since wingsuits can’t self-propel. Once off the ground, all of the Wright flyers ran on their own power in addition to the wind. Both flying machines are impressive, but let’s not diminish the Wright brothers’ just because the takeoffs were assisted

He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. We went to lunch soon after and hit it off, unfortunately he had forgotten to wear protection so now I’m pregnant.

For one, it was chosen due to the soil composition because international grade runways are built really deep into the ground so they needed good soil. And two, at high altitudes planes need more time to climb, which is why DIA has massive runways but also huge distances between it and civil areas, the large planes it was designed for struggle to climb at the altitude of the airport itself shortly after takeoff so its a precaution for emergencies. If a plane crashes (which multiple have because of this exact reason) it’s better to crash into a field than a city

Outside America security is a lot less consistent, at least TSA is consistently hot garbage with the same rules, meanwhile security in Heathrow at one point didn't require taking shoes off then reinstated it, meanwhile in Australia I suddenly didn't have to take my laptop out at security after years of that rule being a thing

In Europe that are slightly less paranoid so oftne you can get away with not taking your shoes off. Still too paranoid, give me pre 9/11 comfort!

The TSA scanner in my small town was cranked to insanity or something, because this was the first year I got a crotch pat down on the way in. The scanner detected something? Yeah it's my fucking zipper! I sat there putting on my shoes after, feeling violated, and literally 3 other people got crotch pat downs. Old dudes, ladies, children. The fuck?

even before Leonardo da Vinci, Musli, polymaths were flying small distances via (u guessed it) man power. This also tells that how us humans have the same imagination, the Muslims were just really into science during that era and europe was not hence da Vinci never completing those glorious ideas.
