As an American, I do think that there should be a second race in the United States. Maybe not a third race, but definitely two. America is weird in the regard that it's unlike most other countries, where the country's morale changes across the country. It's not one nationality, but more sort of a few. The dynamic of people living in San Francisco may differ from the people living in Boston, to the people living in Indianapolis, to Miami, to New York, to Seattle, to Austin, the list goes on. There isn't one simple way to describe it, and you can't cover that idea of the United States in one race. This isn't me being a stuck-up proud poster-boy American, because I've heard other people say the same thing. On a side note in terms of tracks where races can happen, there are quite a few options. None of them really are listed as Grade 1 by the FIA, but some of them might be close, and there are some great places to go for a race. We only currently have two tracks in the US listed as Grade 1, but there are FIFTEEN other tracks, at FIA Grade 2, that could be renovated and brought up to a Grade 1 specification. Some picks of mine could be Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Road America, Sonoma Raceway, Laguna Seca, or perhaps even a return to other tracks, like Watkins Glen and Long Beach. It could be interesting, and that could offer up some change to the tracks that we have on the calendar in the rest of the world now. I'm not saying that I think we should get rid of COTA. It's a good track. But I think the only reason why it's not taking off is because of the fact that it's not something that us Americans are used to seeing when it comes to American road courses. It's very European, and since we Americans like things the way that we always had them made, we reject the modernity that is COTA for the most part. I think COTA will be here to stay for a while, but if we had to choose places to go that maybe would like an influx of money to being it up to higher standards that we need for F1, maybe F1 and the United States can make a long-lasting pact for classic races in the United States. But we can't do it in just one...

@BB_Sebring3 жыл бұрын
While I agree it'd be great to see F1 at Watkins Glen as a life-long New Yorker, it's only FIA Grade 2. Meaning Herman Tilke or someone else would need to "upgrade it" to FIA Grade 1 Standards for it to host F1. Do we really want Tilke ruining yet another race track? Especially given how it's one of the most popular tracks on the NASCAR schedule. I doubt NASCAR (who mind you owns The Glen) would want to make changes to it unless they were absolutely necessary. In particular, the Esses would probably need to be reworked, not to say they are a safety hazard but rather they'll be perceived as one. Roger Penske, on the other hand, would probably happily welcome F1 back to Indianapolis. They did have an FIA Grade 1 license for the road course also before it expired in 2019. I doubt it'd be that difficult to get it ready for F1, especially now with the chicane to bypass speedway turn 1 to make a repeat of 2005 impossible. Hell, I'd wager he'd promote the race himself if he somehow couldn't find one

New Yorker here, couple of interesting things to add. Mitchel Air Force base actually hasn't existed since the 50s. There are a couple of colleges (I went to one of them), a museum, and some other things there that the track would have been built around. I'm not accusing anyone, but those small cities across the Hudson River are somewhat notorious for corrupt dealings regarding development projects. Also, F1 isn't alone in failing to crack into the NYC metro area. Years ago, NASCAR attempted to build a track on Staten Island. And if I remember correctly, they bought some land between a landfill and a polluted waterway. Yeah, it went no where.

I'm from New Jersey, I remember them trying to plan this in the 2010's. Formula E makes it happen in Brooklyn. But F1 is a totally different animal. Also it would make sense for it to be in Jersey. Everything New York is actually from New Jersey. Statue of Liberty, yea that land is technically in NJ, the NY Jets and Giants, they play at Metlife, in New Jersey and the stadium they played in before that was right next to it, before being torn down. So planning something in New Jersey but saying it's New York is pretty common, just look at the the 2014 Superbowl that was at that same Metlife stadium in East Rutherford New Jersey, but all of the promos and logos had the empire state building and the freedom tower as if it was in New York. But hey, I can't blame them, the best view of New York is from New Jersey. That's why New Yorkers hate New Jersey cause we have all of their stuff and a great view of Manhattan, while all they have is a shitty view of New Jersey.

I live just outside of NYC, I think a race would be great to have in the New York area but it’s a tricky thing to coordinate. A picturesque circuit in manhattan is pretty much out of the question with many of the tight streets so you would have to look at a circuit somewhere else. You would pretty much have to build a circuit from scratch and I think a place like Floyd Bennet Field could be a nice place for it but than you would have to build the whole circuit and New York being New York, you would probably need a subway line to it. But logistics wise, it’s right by the airport which is always a plus. So I would love to see it but the funding would be the main setback.

I live and have grown up in New York. The number of people, lack of space, and noise issue would make it literally impossible to actually hold it in the city. It would have to be Long Island, or New Jersey or something. It also is just not car country. I am literally the only legit F1 fan I have ever known from NYC. I would not be surprised if a race would be met with protests about noise, pollution, and closures, kind of like when indycar tried to go to Boston. Not to mention the fact that the money used to put it up could be used much more effectively to fix public transit or help the homeless. FE works because it is a much smaller track, venue, and has no noise issue. Most New Yorkers don’t even know it exists. I just could not see an F1 race actually happening in the big apple. As much as I personally would love it, the city itself would hate it, and rightly so.

As someone who lives in the area and has driven through the streets of the proposed F1 track, some history here: - The shopping complex and parking garage that is where the pit complex would be originally was just a flat open-air parking lot. This is why they would have been able to put the infield complex there. - This track would have an INCREDIBLE set of elevation changes. The east side of the track (where the frontstretch would be) is about 10 feet above sea level. The west side is on top of the Palisades (BTW, I've never heard it said the way Josh said it here... the second A tends to be long, not short, rhyming with "made") is at least 150 feet higher, if not more. - If you check the map shown at around 3:15 and 5:11 in the video (of which the top is facing west, basically), the roadway on the left all the way to the end of the chicane is uphill. Think Eau Rouge at Spa with the top being like Turn 3 at Spielberg. The entire upper part of the roadway is Boulevard East, and then from that 90-degree right turn through to the hairpin on the lower-right is all steadily downhill (which is the area past the sewage treatment plant). - The roadway from the hairpin to the west is 2 lanes each way and comportably wide, but the roads it turns onto after that, including the frontstretch, are not that wide, especially at this point. This may have changed in recent years due to construction, but those roads are one lane each way and significantly narrower. With the construction the way it is at that location, there is really no decent way to put a layout there anymore. The pit exit actually would be going right through at least one building in the area's current status. Most of the housing in the area, especially the lower area, is all condominiums now. Much of that space was not as built up that long ago. Also, there are portions of the Boulevard East part of the track which only have a short sidewalk area and a short wall before what is basically a cliff face. It's this area which would give the most impressive views of the Manhattan skyline. However, one thing to note is that the most immediate view would be of central Manhattan, not the more famous southern part of Manhattan. The other side of the Boulevard East part of the track would be a mixture of single- and multi-family houses with a few apartments thrown in. Oh, and for the American history buffs: The Weehawken Dueling Grounds, site of the Hamilton-Burr duel, is just south of the track on Boulevard East. If anyone has any other questions about the area or whatnot, feel free to ask. I'll do the best I can to answer them.

As an American F1 fan I would love to see more F1 GPs in the states. I loved when they had the Long Beach GP and was sad to see it go. COTA is awesome but a street course in New York or another US metro city would be cool. Maybe go back to Vegas? Just not in the parking lot of Caser's Palace

I just want F1 to go back to the Indianapolis Road Course. It seems good races usually happened at the track, yet the race most think of anymore is the 2005 event when 14 cars withdrew before the start. I'd love for them to return next year with the new car, and create better memories.

COME BACK TO INDYYYYY
@flyingphoenix1133 жыл бұрын
While I'm not a fan of multiple races in a single country, a very solid case can be made for the US. It's an affluent country with decent circuits, great facilities, a lot of fans, and the country also spans an immense geographic area. That said, if the circuit added/chosen is anything *other* than the Indianapolis road course, it would be a farce. Indy isn't just unique; with the exception of 05, it has consistently produced some of the most exciting races on the calendar (at a time when overtaking was scarce). I would honestly trade COTA for Indy without a moment's hesitation.

There's so many better places in the states to host. Ex LA or Sebring.
@amaizeing.dumbass51233 жыл бұрын
If they decided to give Sebring the US gp, they would need to get rid of the old concrete from the old days of being a US ww2 air base, which I feel it would erase quite a bit of character to the track, and they maybe will end making it a hockemhring clone.

@johnsmithton2923 жыл бұрын
@@ihaveone6086 Grosjean has a video on his KZbin channel of him testing at Laguna Seca and he said that the F1 car probably wouldn't be able to handle the corkscrew. His estimation is the nose sits too low and at the bottom of the corkscrew it would probably end up getting damanged.

I think that with two dates, it should rotate a bit. Go to Long Beach. Go to New York. Go to Miami. But, stay at COTA. Let that one date be the same year on year but let the other tour the country with a variety of venues and such.

Its called Formula E these days because the transition from petrol to electricity has been quite significant.. But its quite baffling that there are no FE races happening in America while the rest of the world is very common, as football (soccer) is a global thing.. I guess you Americans like to separate yourself from the rest of the world?.

I was so excited when I saw the original press releases, then I found out it was a fever dream that's been called off pretty much every year since the 1980s.

I would rather think about other tracks in the US such as Watkins Glenn, Indy,even Laguna Sega, anything other than making a street circuit in a busy area of the NYC area. F1 History says that street circuits in the US don't exactly bode well.

If F1 really wants to have a second race in the US, probably should just go back to Indy. It already has the FIA Grade 1 status required for a track and would be a lot easier and cost effective than a street circuit. There's a different layout there now and besides new tires were developed to handle banking if they ran the old layout.
@Atrail_Mckinley47863 жыл бұрын
I agree. Indy would make more sense. I feel like they are wasting their time trying to race at places in the u.s that have no intrest in the sport and are not familar with

No, most Americans don't care about F1 and NYC would just be a logistical nightmare. If you want a second date in the US, work to get another track up to F1 standards. Like Sebring, Road America, Watkins Glen, or Sonoma.
