You shouldn't criticize them by screaming all over the internet with "revives" that say the game is shit, because it's ugly looking, has a lot of bugs, bad physics and so on. Criticize as for letting devs know about the problems, yes. Criticize as for bashing them in revives. Then, you needed to play the game every damn day to just be able to have fun ; building mechanics were already hard for me (no reflexes) and when you needed to be able to build, fight and every thing at the same time, I couldn't keep up.

I mean, technically speaking Fortnite: Save the World (The main game) was in development since 2011, but Fortnite: Battle Royale was only in development for two months before it's release. Epic just saw the popularity of PUBG and had there dev team use the engine and mechanics of the main game (namely building) as a basis for the BR mode. That still doesn't make it a bad game just because it wouldn't exist had all the core development and mechanics not been a part of a different game. A good game by happenstance is still a good game.

Fortnite's game design is actually really unique in the sense that the building and shooting split each other in half and require you to use both to outplay your opponent. However, Reddit can't wrap their heads around that there's *100 players* in a single battle royale game, so they end up saying "Fortnite bad" when in reality they only had about a 1% chance of winning.

I’ll always support Fortnite because of: A) taking time to make a solid foundation for their game with lots of depth B) good business models and never obviously pushing for money Also you can say consistent updates, but honestly those two shine through the most, especially in this day and age of rushed AAA live service sh*t shows that do nothing but spam macro transactions to milk every single player dry. The games depth comes from it's development starting in 2011, however it's kind of a cheat to say that this is the case. They had no plans for a battle royal till somewhere after 2016. What they were working on was the base game, zombie defence mode, which was actually quite endearing itself. They just reused assets when they made the battle royal, so it wasn't high effort. It is now, of course.

In Season 3 and 4 it was at it's best. Good Gameplay, and there were no sweats. I took a break after the Season where Thanos came back, and now I am not competitive anymore. (Not that I was before lol) But seeing little kids doing 90's and editing faster than I can see, I was like, nope, I'am not coming back. So I deleted it, probably forever. I was a good game, which made a lot of fun, especially with the boys in squads, but now it's just by far to sweaty.
