It's easily surmised as "Specialist Studio are awesome model makers passionate about everything they do, main studio are very selective and only try hard on some thing". It's why Necromunda and the like are hands down the best model line in GW, and it's not even close.

Nah, GW it's a corp company, all it's decided on committee by the high ranks, and they high ranks knows that even a rock gonna sell for 40k, on the other hand, Necromunda needs good minis to sell, because smaller games have much competition in the market and GW are just one of many other companies in that market.

@@midknight9327 they're not though, the squats are just kin who live on necromunda, the squats entierly in old lore are now just kin who fought for with the imperials, they all come home eventually or should come home eventually to share information and report on potential resources to claim. and the kin don't obey the votann cores, they actually barely get any information out of them anymore they're so bogged down in redundant dead kin brains, they follow their hearthspeaks and do what they can to advance, maintain and support their leagues.

The old 40K Ork boyz kit might not be modern standards for the sculpting, but it was a lot more fun when you could just swap out parts to make your boyz as unique as you wanted. I think we got into the mono pose junk so you couldn't just swap out a GW part for a third party part. Heck even push fit could be like Lego figures if they really wanted to go that way.

I think its way more likely that they wanted to make more dynamic models. The older models have technically many different potential pose, but they end up very samey and not very dynamic.

@@shadekiller19 This argument totally works for some models, but for some it doesn't even come close. My go- to example is the Lumineth bladelords, but goes for their entire range; so many of their models are "just standing there" in the most lifeless poses, but i can't swap out the arms or heads without doing a stupid amount of cutting and sculpting. If i get a squad of cool dudes in awesome poses, i'm fine with monopose! e.g i love the new dark eldar mandrakes! But half the time it's the worst of both worlds :(

Damn if I was making a Votann army, I would totally use the Necromunda bikers to replace my hoverbikes, especially because it harkens back to the older Squat style, which is what Necromunda seems to be going for.

I think we all consider it, like the bikes are the most disliked model in the tiny range that we have, no one likes building them, no one likes painting them, the moment i saw these bikes i was both excited and annoyed as i already have 2 squads of bikes and don't have much of a reason to get another unit.

Personally, for me there is nothing worse than a kit with twohanded weapons. Fixing 3 points at the same time with glue is a nightmare. This is way better in fixed kits, where those parts are designed to fit in the joints in only one angle.

coming from the gunpla world, GW really doesn't consider the customer when engineering the sprue. like why would you leave HALF a foot on the terrain piece? Bandai literally splits their kit based on colours and injects them in colour so you don't even have to paint them. While miniatures are harder to split, there should be at least some baseline on how to split the mini to make painting easier

Miniatures aren't hard to split, they were split in the past (because they are made for being split): you could buy 3 unique Space Marines box and mix them, same for Ork/Orc. GW went back for monopose for core units and it's sad because now you have 5 boyz repeat a multiple time in your army instead of having 50 unique boyz.

I don’t think anyone wants pre colored plastic. There is no default color in Warhammer that people want. It always changes and forcing a blue space marine for instance would make priming/basecoating harder

There is a huge difference in miniature details. Gunpla does not have the same detail as GW miniatures.

​​@@cbjewelzthere are default color schemes, or does GW have artwork, pictures and animations all in grey? Bro, you can prime any plastic and paint in top of it. Nobody is being forced, but it does help to speed up the process of having game ready minis right away for people that don't want to paint them. It would also solve unnecessary piles of shame. Good counterpoints would be that each mini would be dispersed in several sprues, assembly mould be more difficult and prices would be higher. All of you instead of being reactionary and not engaging with new ideas and shaming the guy, just think, think for second what would be like and if there are some merits on it. It is frustrating seeing people yapping to maintain tradition.

You're not the first to notice the, let's say, weird way GW engineers their kits. The Bretonnian foot knight has agitated everyone who has tried to assemble those figures, they scramble up the part location of every part you need to make just one knight in the instructions. Those who play Orks in 40k have also been treated *horribly* by GW's anti-consumerist ways, I feel for you guys, I really do. It was never like this years ago, everything was very approachable before GW started hating their customers.

I think the metal panel underneath the wheel bar works because it reads as a piece of undercarriage reenforcement. Like it’s there to protect it from scraping the ground which fits the rugged but pragmatic style of the mini

I really enjoyed putting together the Tau battlesuits for their posability, they even have little ridges on the joints so you can lock them into their 'default' poses or cut the ridges off and pose them however you want. But I've seen people make some pretty bad posing decisions so it also makes sense to limit the options. At the very least head swaps and a few extra sets of swappable arms so you can customize where the guns are pointing seems like a good baseline. A break at the waist so you can turn the model is also nice to have, but partially because it becomes a lot easier to duplicate parts, and I know they don't want me to make 40 infantry out of two kits.

Agreed with posablility. I love the old ork Nobs kit. There's so many extra options to give them all different shoulder pads, different guns and axes, different heads, and the arms and legs can be swapped for the most part from one to the other not following the build instructions. Plus the possing can always be different! One of my all time favorite kits for sure!

If you want to check out the current pinnacle of model kit engineering, maybe you should take a look at the new RG RX-78-2 2.0 kit that Bandai released back in August. It's pretty different from the engineering you're talking about regarding miniatures, but I think you'll really enjoy it!

I mean I’ve found a few STL that the creators did make in their sculptures in parts so they can be more easily swapped. But really most sculpted do seem to be coming more from a “let’s sculpt a statue” position over “let’s make an action figure” position. and going into blender and cutting models up into modular peaces is such a pain in the ass.

Those goblins and troll @12:36 and the Orcs @13:10 are based directly off of Paul Bonner's artwork from the 3rd edition Warhammer Fantasy days! That is *really* impressive to see 3D renders and then resin figure of them! I have to get these figures!

Yeah! the goblins and troll were made for a CMON game, Paul Bonner's "dead keep", from actual Bonner art. The orcs are a mix of different sorces of inspiration and refference, but the most important ones are Paul Bonner, Allan Carrasco, and the old GW orcs

TBH, Necromunda is the best game GW do at the moment, from models to rules. They manage to keep expanding it without making it an absolute mess, because it's designed in a way that trusts its players to choose how they want to play and house rule anything that doesn't quite work for them. Something a system that is now designed nearly entirely for competative meta simply doesn't allow.

When you said "most 3d printed minis if not all are monopose" free ones sure but still many arent, when talking about paid ones by people who do monthly relases most in my experience are multi part kits and the ones that are monopose that I get lets say in troop choices have 10 or more different poses often more.

Similar to the battle sisters box you mentioned, I really enjoyed the Death Guard Plague Marines. All seven dudes can be posed with any of the guns and melee weapons individually, and the heads are all easy to swap too

@@kobegeeraert8993 I mostly refer to the Veletaris. Search up a picture comparing both resin and plastic. My main issue is the removal of the Void Armour aesthetic, all chains removed, replaced with smooth surfaces and that. The Powerpack would be the best example of this.

About how Hair are constructed. Try checking Melusai archers or spear girls.. their huge hair are connected to model with one, little joint - they break of sooo easly. I learned with time, when I glue them back I always stick them as well a bit to a back or arm, or any other point to make it sturdier.

Single pose 3d printed miniature are hard to work with but thankfully there is a solution for that: You can reposition/swap weapons of a 3d model on a free program like blender in less than 10 minutes. If done properly it will give you near perfect results with limitless possibilities and insane kitbash potential with an absurd amount of options without needing any spare piece nor material. It seems like GW has 2 different engineering teams. Sometimes you get pretty good builds like Black Templars where you have a decent amount of mix and match but then you get experienced like Kommandos were its a nightmare hunting through the encoherent sprue for the single bespoke part. Ive been getting some first born kits before they get phased out and its criminal how much more fun they are. Lots of bits, really easy to build and put together, the sprues look like theyre made by humans for humans, and enough swivel points where duplicates arent really obvious. Its gonna be a sad day when the last pre primaris kits go away. For all the advancement GW has done with their kits, a lot of time it feels like theyve lost sight of or sanded off the fun.

My view is simple, fuck GW for making all the models monopose. Bring back actual multipiece models instead so that we dont have to see the same exact armies on 15 different tables because there's literally no choice aside swaping a head or slapping some deco items on top.

One 'conspiracy theory' I have about this is because they lost the Chapterhouse Lawsuit which was doing stuff like selling alternate legs, torsos and heads for Imperial Guard as well as Space Marine stuff they've gone out of their way to remove the ability to easily kitbash in 3rd party parts. For example the old Cadians kit the arms, torso, legs and head were all seperate but interchangeable which meant that people would sub in new torsos and legs or new heads to change things up. With the rise of 3D printing they've really gone out of their way so you can't just use 3D printed pieces on anything but Space Marines (who they *have* to keep basic customization options because they sell their own upgrade sprues).

Anything non-Space Marine these days is full models since kitbashing with 3D parts onto Guard, Xeno or other would require to basically to throw half a model away since the parts never match

Well it's not a matter of effort in 40k I imagine it's more of a matter of artistic restrictions and rules the designers have to follow.

That doesn't make any sense though. 40k has looked good for decades, and recently is getting a crapton of very bad models. Nothing wrong with the art style.

From my understanding the prospectors WERE intended to be the Votann design but corporate and marketing perferred them looking like space marines thus the more conservative design, we can all agree that the offerings from the Prospectors ARE the better of the two designs outside of the land fortress and sagitaur. Now with the blood angels.....they are mroe the result of modern artists, put blunty like with corteaz they were designed by a DEI team hence why they have been so cagey about admitting who actually did the sculpts unlike with the Votann. GW is very quick to hide and protect the identity female employees who rock the boat in a bad way *Lelith sculpt cough* or the Custodes debacle

as a votann player I will speak for the entire votann player base.... we all hate the bikes, they're over complicated, difficult to paint and are supposed to sit on a god damn tactical rock.... I pinned mine, theres no way im trusting a tactical rock to support that whole ass model.

if you look at all the bad models of the last year or 2, they are ALL 40k models if you look at all the amazing models of the last year or 2, NONE of them are 40k models i am 100% sure that GW is so sure of 40ks success, while their other games are not doing so well, so what they have done is take all the talented artists and put them to work on all the other games leaving only the interns, or people who really dont care, working on 40k as a result we are seeing amazing models for every system BUT 40k, and just bad models consistently for 40k, cos GW is 100% of the mindset "the 40k players will buy it anyway" so they dont need to spend money on actual talent for it, while for AoS and necromunda etc, the players ARENT buying it, so they are putting the talent there to try and push them i 100% believe GW has stopped caring about putting effort into 40k cos they are so sure of its success anyway (and they are mostly right, the new sang guard are going to fly off shelves despite being terrible)

The new squat trike looks like someone looked at real trikes and said oh that's how they look and work, it's way better than the votann one, the votann one the first time I saw it I was already thinking about how I'd have to kitbash it to fix it, the new squat trike is a 10 for me

I put wheels on my hernkyn pioneers and they look fuckin sweet. Such a little change takes a model from meh to awesome and im surprised they came up with this for necromunda
