3:54 "to show he is the boss" is not right. There were and there are reasons for every thing in our religion, the same is applied to the story of Lord Shiva beheading Ganesha. There are stories based on this. Some stories say it was because of a curse by Rishi Kashyap, some say it was due to a curse by an asura who killed his own son, who was manipulated by Lord shiva against his father (the asura), some stories say the prior form of Ganesha was arrogant and stubborn, so to teach him a lesson he beheaded him and granted him a new life which was filled with knowledge and wisdom, hence Ganesha is called "God of knowledge and wisdom", etc, etc...

Madhukar Keshav Dhavalikar, M.A., Ph.D. (University of Poona) proved in 2016 about Ganesha explaining the rise of the elephant- headed divinity from a sacred animal outside of Hinduism and an animal totem to the exalted position of a cult deity in Hindu pantheon. This long journey of the god from gaja to gana to Ganesa to Maha- Ganesa and a cult deity, as great as Siva and Vishnu, His popularity in a large measure is due to his being a vighma-karta (obstacle-creator) changing into a vighna-harta (obstacle-remover).

Its surprising that Karthik is considered elder in th North but he is the younger in the South. In fact in the 16 names of Ganesha, the last is Skanda purvaja meaning elder to Skanda.

There is this controversial theory that I would like to share . When the world was young science is sacred . That which can multiply is female . So earth was female . Deities we’re all female . Lakshmi, Saraswathi, Shakthi etc . They were not real people but personified as women next to the men they were with . Like depicting that the man was blessed with wealth so Lakshmi was depicted next to Vishnu. Sakthi is energy . Shiva in a story shows his another form were he challenges the others to find his beginning and end . He probably knew how to manipulate energy in ancient times. Karthikeyan also know as Murugan in south is famous as a king , as a warrior, as an agriculturist,as a herbalist , as a teacher . He is called by followers as “ Appane Muruga” meaning father Muruga. If that was a common way to use Appa then Murugan calling Shiva as Appa is not literal . Shiva is dakshina Murthy. Dakshin means south. So it can mean both shiva and karhikeyan are from south . From different time periods and not really father and son. Next Ganesh is embodiment of om is it said . What if it’s just a logo created by Murugan followers . The Tamil letter for om looks just like a elephant head with one tooth. What if Ganesh is not one person but a school of scholars . Vinayaka means remover of obstacles . Doctors ,scientists and researchers remove obstacles in our day to day life. Prolong our life . Pillayar is another name for Ganesh . Pillai is a term used to refer young kids. Pill or pull in Tamil can also mean grass( herbs ) . What if pillayar is a logo for the research team Murugan had. People came to them with their pleas, like we go to a multi speciality hospital. So the family Siva the father, Sakthi the mother , Murugan the son and pillayar the brother . The gods of the south .

It's not controversial...if we trace the stories for all these gods in the south it all goes back to one of the oldest forms of worship....worshipping your ancestors...the remements of this system is underlying in all the myths and religions that are found in India and most of south east asia...it all denotes to the point that before all this we worshiped nature and then our ancestors....as time went on we forgot the true reason for this practice and created myths surrounding that reason of worship...so not controversial

In the South, Murugan is the younger brother and Ganesha is the first or older brother. This is why we pray to Ganesha first, being the first Chakra. Murugan is the sixth Chakra, third eye. He's born from the third eye of Shiva as a higher dimension to Samadhi and beyond. This is a bottom-up basic transmutation of energy from first to sixth Chakras and beyond is something unspeakable in many ways. That is part of Samadhi. Most human language will not capture those dimensions, but mathematics might. This why Sanskrit was developed by the Sages, same with Tamil.

The logic of Shiva and Ganesh is otherwise. In the evolution process, man is the final product. After physically perfected consciousness, taking 84 lakhs of birth, man realises he is God who has been through evolution and involution (7 stages to God Realised state). The 1st man who realised himself as God realises he has been dreaming himself in this physical universe. That 1st man was Ganesh or Adam. Idea of elephant head is represented as universal head. His limited mind has now been replaced by universal mind of the oversoul. He attains shivaloka which is destruction of physical mind to realise the Self.

Not quite Ganesh was created by Parwathy only when Shiva went away for a war, when he came back he saw a man with his wife and Shiva got angry and removed his head off.; Sorry Ganesh was not created by Shiva, yes Ganesh then become the Remover of any Obstacles for anyone after that incident. That was his duty which is to remove any Obstacles. There is no energy running in Ganesh body from Shiva, Only from his Mother.

Dont speak with so much comittiment and spread false info, the Dr. didnt even correct you maybe it was an honest mistake. We will never know. Although I do see alot of north indian bias in your conversations on hinduism. I suggest being more open minded and accepting that there are multiple views. But north indians do have some stigmas accepting that Tamil is the oldest language. Humility is important. Always good to leave a pinned comment with corrections.

Married is just a metaphor as we are humans we tent to understand the divine with human like qualities. In reality, God, consisting to embodiment of energies (masculine and feminine, PURSHA AND PRAKRITI), are ONE. The "Kids" are rather expansions of the two energies. BTW hindus have more open minded and very diverse way on the concept of God, that's why we have many and accept different perspectives on the concept of God. By viewing this in a theological way, all the gods and goddesses are different aspects, manifestations, names and forms of the same source of creation which we call it Para Brahman. Marriage, Husband, wife, kids, etc, are simply metaphor, which delivers subtle ideals to humans in order to understand our own deeper nature through them.
