I get the feeling you are talking about Motiv balls. Well.. I went to Motiv from Hammer because of the core. Oh..and I do roll a 12lb ball. I'm disabled and 64, I tried to roll a 14 and couldn't make it past 16 frames. So 12 it is. But, core aside, Motiv seems to work better for me, except for one ball.. Hammer's Radioactive Vibe, still a beast of ball. But Motiv's Pride Dynasty. Jackal Ghost, Jackal Ambush, Black Venom, Pride Empire and Nuclear Forge, all seem, at least to me, strike more, give me the reacation I'm looking for more than Hammer. And I love Hammer. Been a Hammerhead since I was in my 20's. But Motiv works better for me. Now it might not for anyone else. But I think the core does matter, and the coverstock does matter, and Motiv offers them together. Am I being decieved by Motiv when they say it's the same core??? If I am, I am ok with it. I am thankful you finally did a vid on 12lb balls, I know they work. 197 average. My average with 15lb ball.. 174. People talk about more deflection, well, when you hit at the 17 1/2 board.. deflection is not an issue. And I do get messengers now I never had with a 15lb ball. Speed of 15lb around 14 at best. Speed with 12lb ball, ave16-17. More speed. Speed kills.. pins. Great vid. And thanks for doing a light ball. Please do more.
@jazlarvonsteich Жыл бұрын
Motiv doesn't use generic cores. They also don't put the same core in every weight. If the core can't be used in a certain weight, they don't make the ball in that weight. Check their site. Some balls are only made in 14-16. Most 12-16. The only current balls that are 10-16 are the Top Thrills. And those use a lightbulb type shape. If Nick is talking about them (and it's likely, as SPI uses alternate cores), it's a bit misleading to claim they say they use the same core in every weight. Perception vs Reality. Nothing wrong with generic cores, but there's definitely going to be more of a difference in ball motion over different weights using the same core shape.

I went with Motiv for the same reason. Wrist can't handle the 15# anymore, so I'm dropping down to 13#. Just picked myself up a Primal Shock, which, amazingly, has a higher differential (.055) than its 15# counterpart (.050)! Excited to try this baby out!

I throw 12lb because of an elbow injury. High games 273 and 265 with a 186 avg. Just started bowling last summer so I feel like I can actually improve quite a bit. 12lb just means you either rocket the ball up the 8-10 board or you slow down and throw entry at around 25 all the way out to the 5 board and create major entry angle.

I bowled a 8/ 9/ 9/ 9/ 9/ 9/ 9/ 9/ 9/ 9/9 game this year with my 12lb practice ball. I use my 12lb ball to warm up my first game for practice, or for a game before I play league. It works great for warm up and I use it to cool down from practice too. I also use it a lot of practice during long practice sessions when working on release and other such things. I can control it a little better when working on particular aspects before I move up to my heavy balls. I really get a lot of use out of my 12lb practice ball. I was struggling last week in league and went to my 12lb practice ball for my last game, scored my best game of the night, by far (237). My highest game Realized it was 13lb after I grabbed a different ball and was wondering why it felt weird and rolled slower, iot was 15... I weighed them and saw for sure. I recently stepped down a few months ago to 14lbs and see just a slight difference in carry compared to throwing 15lbs... Difference I see is I leave more solid 9s, but as Nick said with a lighter weight you just have to create more entry angle which gives you more room to go high and still flush with slight deflection.

I found my 12 lb rubber ball Brunswick(Fireball) 7 years ago that was on the racks with the house balls at my league bowling alley and have been using it since. I bought it for 5$. Helped my team win the championship that season using that ball. After that I bought a used 70$ used ball thinking i would be better with a real bowling ball which didn’t fit my style(straight/old school+no thumb). Then my gf bought me a $300+ 16lb bowling ball(Motiv Chronic Paranoia) and that ball was real hard to control. Then last year I bought belmo’s Fate(15 lb) for 60$ and I love it but I need more practice with it and need to use lower grit on it for better control. But just two weeks ago I finally stopped switching back and forth between games and admitted that my 12lb rubber ball is my main ball and not just my spare ball. For the past 2weeks I have gotten 600+ series and feel like I can get my first 300 game soon with this 12 lb rubber ball lol 😅 who woulda thunk🤷♂️. I’m planning to get the Storm 13lb iQ 78/U next then the 13lb Teal Pro Rhino after that. they both seem to be more my down my alley.😁 so for everyone who thinks you need a fancy/new expensive ball, know this, it’s not the equipment that makes perfect, it’s your technique that matters and once you find your perfect technique you can find the right equipment for your next level of mastering your own bowling style. Oh i also kept switching back and forth styles from two handed to reverse curve and one handed(no👍). Good luck on finding your right ball

To show how dry the lanes were for the CMBA title my practice shot, I lined up at fourth arrow and picked off three in the left hand corner. I started with 15, dropped to 12.. LOVED the look out of the 12 with out the pain.. however I am having a hard time slowing down to let the cover stock work for me, seems like a lot less hook (esp with my low rev rate) as I am in 17+mph range as high as 19 sometimes if there is a lot of oil with 12lbs. went to 14 not bad.. I just like knowing I have the same design core..YES, I know I am over thinking it, however I *think* manufactures should lower the price for sub 14lb balls using generic cores, as the R&D had already been done and you are just recycling the same core for millionth time.. am I wrong?

Yes kind of, but that’s okay. It’s costs no less in time or materials to produce a 12lb vs 15lb. The coverstock is the most expensive part of the ball and that is where the majority of hook and technology is.

what rg and differential numbers shpold you look for in a 13 pound ball.
@brunsnick Жыл бұрын
Depends on the ball, but out of a high end ball .040 differential at least. RGs vary, not as important as total differential.

@@brunsnick lol, I'm just kidding... You were killing it!!! I do think some deflection can help after watching the Helicopter video. I'm super speed dominant so I'll stick with my 15s. Let me know when you do switch though because we are the same age (podcast reference) so it will be time for me too. Great video, thanks for following up, I really appreciate it!

It's been established over the last half decade or so that 14lbs is optimal. Make sure your arsenal is 14lbs if you can, 15lbs if you must. Don't know why they even make 16lb stuff. ESPECIALLY if you are speed dominant as you describe. Heavier equipment will actually cause MORE deflection for a speed dominant bowler because you'll have the impression that you can get away with having even lower RPMs and throw it even harder.
@Slo2Roll Жыл бұрын
Another plus more speed and more revs allows for balls with more surface.

I disagree with what you said about the reason for not putting the same core into a 15 pound ball versus a 12 pounder. A manufacturer doesn’t have to make the core less dense, because there are three, not two, components that can be tweaked in order to lower the weight of the ball. The coverstock, for all intents and purposes, cannot be made lighter, but the material between the coverstock and the core certainly can be made less dense. That is what one manufacturer does, while using the same core in their 12 pound balls as their heavier ones. On this brand the thick white layer between the cover and the core is much softer and less dense on the twelve pound balls than the fifteens and sixteens. I drill the balls from this company for myself, and I can attest that the middle layer on their balls drills and sands much easier than the cover and the core. In fact, when drilling this company’s balls I have to be very careful and feed the bit very slowly because the holes might drift off center when the bit passes through the intermediate layer into the denser core. This company makes fine balls, and another bonus for me is that as of this writing their balls are made in the USA. Maybe you don’t know that you are passing on misleading information, but I will tell you that at least one ball company puts the exact same core in all their products from twelve to sixteen pounds. That is why, when I decided to buy a urethane ball I chose one of theirs instead of the purple pearl urethane that everyone has been gushing about for the last few years. And my results indicate that I made the right choice. I’m not affiliated with any ball manufacturer. All I care about is performance and what best fits my game. I think a lot of manufacturers are putting generic cores in their lighter balls strictly as a cost-cutting measure. That’s okay by me, except if they’re going to cut corners on the core they should charge less for the lighter balls. But they don’t. That’s why I prefer to spend my money on the American-made balls with the top- notch components in all their balls, regardless whether they weigh twelve or sixteen pounds.
@brunsnick Жыл бұрын
It’s not the same core. Not possible, even with changing density of the outer. But if it works for you, great. 👍🏻
@lumberlikwidator8863 Жыл бұрын
@@brunsnick That’s so self-evident that I didn’t even mention it in my comment. But the fact is that most weight reduction occurs in the gray or white layer between the cover and the core. My complaint is with companies that put in a generic core that looks like a little rugby ball and charge the same price as for the heavier balls. To me that is overcharging. Again, I’m not affiliated with any brand but my preferred brand makes the effort to engineer high performance cores for their lighter stuff and then I don’t mind paying the price. They also sand some of their shinier stuff to 5500 instead of cutting corners by sanding to 1000 and using polish. The difference in performance has to be experienced to be believed.

Why doesn't Brunswick make a Sym Hybrid, all I see are Asym Hybrids. I think someone over there at Brunswick needs to go back to the drawing board and start making some Sym Hybrid please. I guess I'll have to add the Hammer Dark Web Hybrid to my Brunswick Arsenal until Brunswick decides to make a Sym Hybrid.
