In my study of church history, I came to appreciate George Albert Smith's struggles more than I thought possible. His desire to serve the Lord and press forward despite his physical ailments has given me strength. Glad you did a video on him!

Very uplifting to hear that he had so many mental and physical health problems, but was still a wonderful prophet. Truly, all things are possible through Christ.

I love those cool facts. We don't talk too much about him, so I'm glad you did a video about him. Thanks!

The fact that one of the past church presidents struggled with mental health and physical health at times should be a relief to members who are experiencing such shortcomings in life in that the Lord knows our strengths.

George Albert Smith is one of my great-great cousins! I am related to him through his grandfather George A. Smith and Susan West who was George A. Smith's 7th wife. And I'm related to his his great-grandfather John Smith. I think it is so great to be the cousin of Joseph Smith Jr. Who loved his Uncle John and his very close cousin George A. Smith. They were an absolutely stalwart family in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints! I am grateful to have the blood of these wonderful Prophets and Apostles running through my veins! The Gospel of Jesus Christ is True! These men can all testify to the truth of it also. They never left the church. They never wavered. They could have left at the time Joseph Smith died, but they did not. They helped thousands of members come across the plains to the West and settle in Salt Lake City Utah! Thank you to Saints unscripted for putting these video histories online for all of us to see who the Prophets and Apostles of the past were! Thank you for all your hard work. It really pays off in dividends to help strengthen our testimonies in the Gospel.

Very interesting things I’ve never heard before. You should do this kind of episode on every apostle we’ve had! Would be neat.

I love George Albert Smith. My favorite story about him is one year instead of attending a Sunday session of General Conference, he took his daughter's to the Utah State Fair. They had a good time. When they went home, there were crowds of people in their front yard offering him their congratulations. He asked what all the commoission was about. During the conference session that he missed he had been sustained as the new Apostle. 😅

If I remember right, he lived in St. George so he could sleep outside in a tent without getting too cold. The doctors thought that him sleeping outside would be good for his health issues.

Guess he had a better visit with President Truman than a certain other depressed thin man did. Jokes aside, I’m glad that we have someone to look to whenever we have depression ourselves.

Was he the first prophet not to have multiple spiritual wives?
@gwendolynwyne10 ай бұрын
No, he was the last polygamist prophet, but by the time of his presidency he was a widower to all but 1 wife. Mental health problems and polygamy go hand in hand.
@davidsnell260510 ай бұрын
@@gwendolynwyne could you be thinking of someone else? Unless you know something I don't, George Albert Smith only ever had one wife: Lucy Emily Woodruff. You might be thinking of Heber J. Grant?
@gwendolynwyne10 ай бұрын
@@davidsnell2605 Oh David you are 100% correct! I’m embarrassed I scrambled those 2🤦♀️ Yes, when he became president in 1945 that was the first time (either ever or in a long while) that a polygamist man was _not_ in the office. I do stand by my comment that his early years as a child of polygamy contributed to his mental health problems, as mental illness and polygamy go hand in hand. Appreciate the correction 🙏
@davidsnell260510 ай бұрын
@@gwendolynwyne no worries. And I would assume that there were probably a great many factors that influenced the mental health struggles he suffered from. I wouldn't at all be surprised if polygamy was one of those factors. It'd be an interesting area to explore.

@@davidsnell2605 Rose McDermott’s 2018 book, “The Evils of Polygyny: Evidence of its harm to women, men, and society” is a great academic resource for that.
