Got my CDL 3 weeks ago ( From CA). Have TWIC, HAZMAT, DOUBLE, TRIPLES, TANKER and no one wants to hire me because I'm a recent grad. So I have to say, it sucks.😪😪

@hondagoal I spoke with a recruiter from Prime Inc. the other day and she stated that they hire direct out of school (not just their school) but if you graduated over 90days ago with no experience it’s harder to get hired. Try them out before your 90day mark to get started. Good luck to you.

I’m really pushing to get into it. So either way there’s a video to be made. I’ve been trying to find a cargo van to purchase and it’s been hard. The prices are so inflated. The vehicle and the contract is the biggest issue. I’m hoping to have it all sorted out by end of this month.

@@JusTruknIt if $ for van is holding you back I would continue otr long enough to stack cash but the only way to do that is to give up your apartment or wherever you live. I know that's out of some people's comfort zone but that's how I've saved while out here and I just airbnb and hotel when necessary. You are correct about everything being overinflated so we gotta be creative for sure

@Nonya24 Oh no I can buy the van but the prices doesn’t make sense if I’m not sure how profitable I’m gonna be. I need a price that I’ll be comfortable with and know that if I have to resell it, I can easily do that and make a profit. My plan was always to live in the truck but every time I plan to, something happens and then I’m happy I didn’t give up my apt. Imagine if I had given up my apt and then got terminated and had to get out the truck? I’m very happy I kept the apt to be honest.

Here in Michigan, they make you get a class b. Even charter buses. I'm no longer OTR, but I did drive a school bus for 8 mos without a class B but myself & 3 ex co workers failed 4 times. I was like, I have a class A, with all endorsements, never had a ticket or accident in my life & I'm 58.

It makes sense in terms of it being harder for a Class A holder. Different types of vehicle. My friends is a Class B holder and drives the city bus and she said most of the Class A drivers had a hard time adjusting to driving the Bus while in school.

I’m still in my first year. I have a couple other plan that includes operations in and outside of trucking. Adjusting, and starting up an Amazon DSP fleet(vans/not trucks).

I say go for it. I used to work at Amazon and wanted to get into DSP when they were offering to help the employees start up. That’s a great business to start up. I wish you the best when you start.

Biggest pro for me is they don’t micromanage. I have a review on here about them. Just check out my recent videos for my review on Indian river transport. Con for me may not be a con for you if you go there but sometimes I hated the communication and last minute changes. I was local and wanted to do more of the main account that we handle, so I felt because I wasn’t a senior driver I was thrown all over the place or doing what most of the seniors didn’t wanna do. The thing is that’s just how the game goes so I tried my best not to get too annoyed. OTR may be entirely different.

I’m by myself. At some point the curriculum can be very stressful and they’ll recommend you not working. It got hard juggling both work and school. Probably would be even harder now. My patience for schooling has gotten so thin these days😩😩

In de real states firefighters are extol from the need of CDL because those vehicles ware not CMV’s.

Thanks for commenting so would it be an advantage to have Commercial Vehicle experience when becoming a firefighter? I know the vehicles aren’t the same but I was speaking on already having experience with heavy equipment.

For Bus Driver or School Bus Driver, they want you to take a road test using a bus or school bus to lift the Passenger restriction(7 or less).

Is it just testing through the company like we normally do when applying to a trucking company or is it something we have to do through the DMV?

@@JusTruknIt This is specific to the NYS CDL Class A. it may be different in another state. When you take the Passenger Endorsement written test, you get the Passenger endorsement with restriction(& passengers or less). You need to retake the road test with a bus to lift the restriction. School Bus has its own S endorsement.

In Maryland you can get hired at the bus companies(school bus or local bus for the city witch is a state job) they train you even if you have your CDLs As you still need to take the skills and pre trip for the bus less then the As but different people here in average make about 1600 to 2000 after taxes because it’s an hourly job and pretty easy compared to OTR and regular As local trucks

No people you can’t go local straight out of cdl school it depends on the state and who you know / trucking is all about how much experience do you have that s the most thing that local companies jobs r looking for / regional and otr jobs will hiring anybody, use Thoses jobs to get your experience up plus if you get a good trainer u will learn so much

I appreciate your comment but there’s no way you actually watched this video and then left this comment 😩😩😩😩 none of the jobs I mentioned are CDL Class A jobs therefore there’s no reason to be mentioning having OTR experience. I literally made the video for people who have or are getting their CDL but may not want to deal with going OTR or regional. Therefore there’s other avenues for them. More-so it’s been very difficult for a lot of new drivers to get hired because a lot of these companies are requiring experience or you have to get your CDL through them. Why would I tell anyone who truly wants to get trucking experience to go drive A transit bus or go into Courier service? I even mentioned the tractor trailer side of waste management in case someone who has experience less OTR experience but may wanna go into another area that steps away from the traditional trucking job.
