We’re booked at the Golden Nugget for 3 nights in July… your videos and opinion has raised our level of excitement even though it was already beyond. One area you didn’t mention is gaming, and GN outdoes Circa in this regard by a mile. Both casinos are great, but you can’t win a penny at Circa, machines are the tightest in all of Vegas imo. I agree that for middle class people who have already been to Vegas at least a few times and seen the Strip already that Downtown is now the place to be. It's a better value for food, booze, and just staying up late gambling....the old school stuff that brought people there. The Strip is a rip off now and is seriously becoming more about nightclubs and high end dining than the gambling or drinks. Plus, you don't get burned out walking from one casino to the next, especially when it's hot outside. they are all close together. Circa was a great addition and what downtown needed but the room prices are so high right now it isn't worth staying there. I'd recommend staying at the Nugget or possibly the Plaza and then spending time at Circa and also the D who also has a lively casino. The only issue I have with downtown is the Casino's are a bit smaller and a popular place like the Nugget can get overcrowded at times and feel a bit cramped.

Yep - Seems like the middle class has been priced out of the strip. Last time I was there stopped into the Cromwell Snack Bar for a soda. A fountain soda. It was $7. That is more than the movies. I don't know how people afford it anymore.

The resort fees are getting so high too they are really no longer fees but will add an extra $150 to the tab on a 3 night stay. And triple zero roulette is shameful. @@amarchhabra2175 I mean I'm in my early 40s now but I remember going to Vegas a bunch of times in my 20s. My buddy's family had a time share at the Polo Towers on the Strip so we'd go every June. None of us had any real money back then we were just starting jobs or in grad school but we could still gamble on the strip for $5-$10 at most tables, stay up late, get drunk, and have a blast. There was still a good mix of old school and new school places and it was still a value back then. Things kind of got more and more pricey over the years but things truly exploded in prices and being a rip off when they re-opened after the pandemic. I soured on the Strip a bit when I went in 2016 and blew like $300 in 20 minutes at the Cromwell and they gave me grief at the bar about asking for a cup of water and said I could buy one for $7. Paying for parking, slower and more limited drink service, extortionate resort fees, hidden fees on food and beverage purchases, triple zero roulette, etc all kind of added to the disalusionment.

I used to live and work in Reno over 40 years ago and believe me, I have a great appreciation for the bygone era of 40 and 50 years ago and coin slots and $ poker tables, there’s just nothing like it in today’s world. I absolutely agree with you on staying at the older Casino Hotels. People used to be friendlier and more neighborly, stuffed shirt personality’s and techishisms just aren’t for me. The older I get the more difficult it seems to navigate my way through the Digital and Tec world. A great breakdown on the Casino Hotels, much appreciated. “Just to note, yesterday’s Casino Hotel resorts were designed by people and today’s were designed by Computer Programmers”.

Appreciate your videos. Been binging them for a few days now. I could tell you were a sales guy about 30 seconds into the first video. Mean that as a compliment. You’re right about sales. sales Is One of the hardest jobs.I have a similar story you. Lifelong sales guy. Left that and have my own business for the last three years. It’s successful by most peoples standards. Now I find myself wanting to do something else. I am also starting an adventure KZbin channel. You referenced Kurt kaz. I have a difference of opinion than you about danger in central American/sketchy countries. Just like Kurt Kaz I have done trips and looked for the most dangerous situations I can get in. Generally speaking it’s all hype. I’ve yet to find a sketchy place in Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Mexico that’s more sketchy then some of the hoods I’ve been in Maryland and DC. Mexican mafia excluded from that maybe. As a fan of yours I would like to see you do some of the kurt Kaz type locations. Especially, since they’re a little out of your comfort zone. I think that would make your videos even more interesting. Not to mention, you and Kurt collaboration would be cool.

Your recap of both places are spot-on. I would add that at Circa the music volume is way too loud in the casino: I can’t spend more than a hour in there at a time. A shame, because they keep the casino clean, the slots are spaced out so you don’t feel crowded, and there is less smoke in common areas. Alternately, I feel claustrophobic in the Golden Nugget, with the slots tightly packed and the smell of smoke is oppressive. The restaurants aren’t a factor for me, as they are all easy to get to no matter which Downtown hotel you choose. As a person who doesn’t care for the Downtown Las Vegas scene - especially at night - when I stay Downtown I book The Cal (California) or The Plaza because they are slightly removed from the craziness, but close enough to visit for dining or to gamble at multiple casinos.

Definitely appreciate the comparison video, especially after seeing your videos on each property. I am a little surprised by how much you enjoy Chart House, but maybe it's because to me, it is simply a nautical themed chain restaurant of which there are a few in the Tampa Bay Area where I live. Still, in other videos you have made, chain restaurants seem to be different in Vegas. My brother in law & his wife, who live in Vegas, swear by Circa as their go-to place for staycations since it opened. Thanks for this. We're staying at Golden Nugget 4 nights in April. Visited Circa last year and found it shiny and new, but kind of uninviting and, as you said, lacking in personality. Checked out Stadium Swim. Thought it was very different for Vegas. It seemed pretty popular and was very crowded. But honestly, it reminded me of cruise ship pool areas. Ate at 8 East and really enjoyed it. Spent some time playing in the casino and had pretty good luck; I even won a small jackpot. Wanted to have a drink at the Mega bar, but the constant thump-thump-thump of dance music was unappealing. I much prefer Golden Nugget's Ice Bar or Rush Lounge. We've made reservations for Barry's Downtown Prime this trip - really looking forward to it. Overall I welcome a new casino downtown, but I'll stick with the Nugget.

Stayed at Golden Nugget many years ago. Fire alarm went off on the 3rd floor at 3 a.m. We all left the hotel via the stairs. Luckily, it was a false alarm and we could return to our rooms. Guests on the other floors did not hear a thing.

I used to go to Vegas 2 to 4 times a year between the 1980 and 2000 and it seemed to me that when corporations took over from the "mob" the quality of many things went down. For one things you cannot win on slots any more the way you could in bygone years. Corporations have priced the little people off the strip and even downtown. I never stayed downtown but always went there about every visit to Vegas. Now days I think I prefer downtown since the strip is now way overcrowded; way too many hotels jammed up together. Wish you had included room types and rates in your comparisons.

Fair comparison. My buddies and I have switched to downtown full time. Love the vibe, walkability, food, and the gambling is so much better. We play a lot of blackjack, and take advantage of the drink service. I’ve stayed at Golden Nugget a number of times and loved the experience. However, after our stay last fall at Circa - it’s the new spot!!!There was no question about going back when we booked this year’s trip. Circa is the best of all worlds.

The nugget still has $5 table games, not craps but all the others. People look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them that. Lowest table games limits and nicest rooms. It's like a low rollers high class joint. They also are generous with room comps, the only place I stay in Vegas.

I get stuck with a timeshare unfortunately. So my trip has 4 days at a timeshare property. However there is one day extra i have and might just have to book at The Golden Nugget. I definitely have been starved of some good vive the last 3 vegas trips. They have been cool in a lot of ways. However, i haven't really experienced downtown much. The strip is nice during daytime. At night not so much outside of gamenight or of coarse at the casinos. I want to meet people, hang out and just enjoy my last day in Vegas with good vibes. Giving i am going solo this video really has me thinking seriously about giving downtown a chance. Circa maybe a possibility but I am not a big sports fan. Not the vibe I am looking for but we will see. Is there any Fex Ex shipping around the downtown area as well? I typically like shipping all my luggage back. So i can avoid headaches at the airport. I liked the Golden Nugget, except the pool party. That lasted maybe until 2:30am. With music loud enough to sound loud in my room & kept me up half the night my first night. I don’t mind a party, but not being able to escape sucked.

The nugget closes the pool at 6:00 pm and the hot tub at 7:00 pm. They do not have the pool open or available for rental pass this time for liability reasons. Drunk people late at night with swimming doesn't mix well. What you most likely were hearing was a Fremont stage concert or a downtown Las Vegas event center concert. To avoid this, at booking request a high floor room that's not facing either area.

I've stayed at Golden Nugget twice and Circa about six times since the end of the pandemic, Going to dinner at Barry's Tomorrow night, You're correct on a few things but here's what I found. Golden Nugget check in is terrible and there's little kids running around everywhere, Circa is 21 and over and checks Identification at the door, No RIF RAF! Unfortunately Circa has priced me out, I no longer stay there. The rooms at Golden Nugget are dark and one time I stayed it was dirty. Most the food at Circa is trash although I haven't tried them all. I'm Caesars Diamond now so I just pick a property and uber to downtown, those resort fees add up.

I have not stayed at Circa. I like it - nice property but I have been staying at the Golden Nugget. The Circa rooms are considerably more expensive. Usually when properties change hands to a big corporation I don't like it but I have to give it to Landrys. They do a good job maintaining Golden Nugget and keeping it up to date. The only thing that bugs me a little is all the restaurants in there are Landury's properties. I can get Claim Jumper and what not anywhere. The Golden Nugget rooms are excellent. Last couple of times I've stayed in the Rush Tower facing away from Freemont and its been quiet at night. The rooms are big, modern and very well maintained. Also - Golden Nugget's pool area is killer! Love that Shark Tank pool. I paid to get into Stadium Swim and it to is unique and kind of cool but I prefer the Nugget. The Golden Nugget casino is kind of cramped but feels more old school (which I like). While I enjoy the spaciousness of the Circa casino and it gives off old school vibes gaming there seems more expensive. If you're a sports person Circa is the place to be. Think the only other place that has a sports book that comes close to Circa is Westgate. Think Circa definitely wins on the restaurant front. The restaurants are unique and not big chains - although food there is kind of expensive (especially when compared to places like Binions and the Boyd properties). Nice thing about Golden Nugget is they do have a Chick Filla. Overall both properties are very nice. Would like to stay at Circa if/when the price is right but I have never been disappointed with a stay at Golden Nugget.

Stadium Swim looks amazing, but I love that the Nugget has table games outside. That is an incredible game changer for someone like myself who doesn't really do slots. Still, Circa seems awesome for a game day / any day. Would love to go to both and most likely will sometime this year. I was about to do Vic and Anthony's, but went to Herbs and Rye off campus and loved it. Will have to try Barry's, Vic's and Chart House. In a way, I think of the rooms as a low priority as I only stay in the rooms for a short time. So the cost of the rooms is a big factor. I have stayed at the Golden Nugget, the Fremont, and the Four Queens. GN is the best of them but I didn't mind the Fremont. FQ was not up to the standards of the others. As for gambling, I think of it as a non-factor as I walk around the other casinos a lot. Yes the food choices at GN are better but I also like to walk around to eat as well and that includes the other end of Fremont Street. One of the things not mentioned is that there are many good steak houses downtown, all within a short walk.

Regarding your comments anout the Nugget having a "natural" vibe, it may have to do with the fact that it always seems "busy." In contrast, Circa strikes me as one of those places that tries to create a certain "vibe" by blasting the music in the casino at an ear-splitting volume, even at 10:00 am. I really wanted to play in Circa's big open slot floor, but I could not take the pounding music for more than 15 minutes.

I always stay at the golden nugget with free comp rooms. And last time I went there last month, it was the most craziest experience I've ever had. First, when I was heading to my room for the first time when I checked in already, the elevator got stuck and you might no big deal, they'll come and open the door very soon, well it was a good thing that they did cause the bad part of that experience it was that a few drunks got stuck with me in the elevator! The following morning when I was gonna go down to gamble a little bit, I said to my self, hmm let me take the stairs just for fun for the heck of it and when I got to the first floor I couldn't open the door cause it was lock. Went one floor up to see of I could get out in the second floor, door lock! Turns out the stairway is only there for an emergency and only employees could go in and out with their keys lol. I was embarrassed that I had to call the front desk to come let me out of their stairway lol. And the last crazy memorable experience I had this last time I went, is that I won a cool amount of money with the free slot play I had... But lost it right back at the blackjack table lol.

"If only" the "Fremont Street Experience" had never darkened the doorway of Downtown Las Vegas. It was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better without it. And whatever the "Experience" purports to be, it has never done an iota for me personally. I used to love breakfast (even if staying on the Strip) at the coffee shop at the Golden Gate: they had a brilliant set of short-order cooks, and veteran waitresses who always called you "Hon." What is the tower that the base room is in on the rooms segment for GN about 1:51? Ive heard that certain towers are better than others?

That is the Carson Tower it's the most basic tower. They have a nicer Gold Tower and a very nice Rush Tower. The Spa Tower is all two floor suites with a staircase.
