My issue is workload. I am a high performer. I provide timely, quality work. I always get the highest raises and bonuses. But then management will overload me with work and I end up quitting every single time. There’s only so much we can do as humans. And overworking your employees will make the good ones run far and fast.

I’m working in a very busy restaurant to pay off my university debts. I’ve had people try to bully me and bring me down constantly but I’ve pushed through all the bull**** and I’ve now gone from bar work to full time server, which I make more money from tips. I’m using this as a survival job but I know I need to leave at some point to pursue what I really want to do. It’s making that decision to leave, I’ve never worked in a more f****** up work environment with such toxic people who have been given supervisor and assistant manager jobs. It’s really effected me mentally and I’ve burnt out. It doesn’t matter how strong you may think you are, a toxic work environment and gang mentality can really mess you up. I know I need to get out but watching this talk has really clarified what I’ve been thinking the past few months.

I honestly feel like there SHOULDNT be a culture. It feels fake, cringe, and it just feels so forced. My current job is just simple. I am trusted to do my job, no quota, no deadlines. They trust in me, don’t manage me at all, and I in turn do honest work. I honestly think that my job just put so much thought and time into who they hire, that they know 100% how that person will work that it works so well.

Yes, you do have a point. I currently work on a corporate which have a cringe & fake culture. There are intercom emails almost every month to reminds about the company's value, even forced to follow their social medias where the posts are the company's value again. It's so boring and rigid.

Most leader today doesn't know how to lead. The wrong people are getting promoted. If your good at your job, you get overloaded with the expectation of doing your job and most of someone else's. No appreciation, little to no raises or bonus and in my case asked to continue working at this high level at a lower salary, then reading that upper level managers got huge pay increases. I QUIT! Thank You but no Thank You. As a company they talked about all the things she mentioned but it was only talk!

You are right! a lot of corporations say they are here for the employees and appreciate all we do but the actions are opposite. more tasks less pay and less flexibility becomes the norm. They treat you like a machine. Was told by a boss, people leave companies because they are impatient. NOT true! ppl leave when they stop growing and feel stuck but the company refuses to promote or create more opportunities. ppl will go where they are valued! only way to grow in today's world is to move companies

Some leaders in the companies, believes the more you talk, the more you get reward. Coz of this, hard working employees get depressed and decide to walk out the door. But guess what, after they left the company, leaders recognized and remember them every day and also they learn the talky people have no values to the company, which is too late! thanks for the post. Thank you for this Christie! I experienced extreme burnout as an employee last year that, others on the outside thought I had the perfect job (the pay, the title, etc.), but being the overachiever I am and my drive to learn and teach others and make a difference was such a passion, the environment I found myself in was detrimental to my health and sanity. I was stuck in a dysfunctional toxic and non-directional environment, and I felt hopeless that I couldn't solve everyone's problems (because I was known for fixing anything!)......I was forced to take the burden of others who refused to do more than the bare minimum, and although had the "title" to make a difference, was not supported to enforce nor encourage change for the better.... I no longer loved my job, lost all hope and confidence.... and I could no longer work in that type of environment... I have to have purpose and see direction, drive, and support of those I am to be working with or answering to. I am still in recovery from the PTSD it caused, and I am starting my own business so I get to choose who I will work with and the culture I allow around me.

I think people just have to be ready to take risks and think with an entrepreneurial mindset. Chase your dreams. Ive seen both successesful examples, and also the 40 year old who has bounced from entry-level job to entry-level job and has built nothing for himself. I think when people quit, only to replace their job with some other entry level dead end job...only succeeded in transferring the problem somewhere else. To me there's only 2 choices. Self employment or employed somewhere you are confident it will lead to an actual growing career

The 8 to 5 office concept is obsolete. Too many wasteful meetings, too much chit chat, too many phone calls and too many interruptions. Not adding the long commutes to the equation. People become zombies desperate for distractions and thus learn to put up in a toxic environment. Life could be simpler but there will always be a few to ruin for the rest unfortunately.

Yes this my job has turned into zoom meetings everyday. Even in the meetings I have checked out they say things but I’m not even listening. Work just feels like a place of stress it’s not the same anymore. So much micromanagement and unnecessary workload and long hours. It’s too much to handle and I don’t want to be part of that lifestyle .

The current company I am working for is perpetually in survival mode and MYSTIFIED about why they can't keep employees or find new ones. They had me join a group of employees to discuss how we could improve the culture and not even one day in and I got "well melennials don't want to work". I basically stopped the meeting and said, "Correct...we don't wan to work for you.". The meetings fizzled out as quickly as they started. THEN my company wanted to conduct and employee survey. I got to personally go over the results with my company's leaders and the overall response was complaints about how "they couldn't give raises" or "should we just fire all of management?". After that meeting I left with this realization of there is absolutely no helping them. I'm not going to waste my own passion on a company that just wants affirmation in the things it does poorly.

Today is my last day of work at a mundane job that I was doing out of love for my Dad. Over the past few months, I've been asking myself there was more to life cause I know I can do better. I've held higher positions before and large nationwide projects. I guess I lost myself along the way after a couple of major derailments in life. The job was comfortable and easy but majorly repetitive and simple. Some time last month, it hit me that I was the most qualified person in the entire company, even the managers. In fact the managers regularly ask me for help with their work. But the excuse I used to give myself was that this boring job was me helping my Dad and that it saved my brain cells to do courses at night. I'm happy to say that today is my last day at work and I've never been this excited in a long time.

Everything was fine for about a month but once I got the #1 sales spot I began to receive so much shade and bully. The micro-managing was extra high. I just quit a job after three months because I couldn't take the rudeness of my co-workers, that one secretary who's allowed to say and do what she pleases because she works for the head partner, micromanagement and the office manager's ADMITTED inability to do anything about the toxicity. You just hope that karma is real but begin to wonder when you're nice and have to leave a job for your health and sanity but the toxic ones survive.

I walked away from my dream job. Great colleagues, great manager, great pay, no complaints. After 25 years in the industry, I felt the need to walk away and reassess my goals and passions. I think it is very important for humanity to figure out how to be content with less. Less of everything, including money, travel, etc. This will be my journey, greed is endless, and insecurity is endless.

I love the view on work culture. Oh yes, that description is spot on. I’ve done some demeaning work; yet have found myself happy at the end of the day due to work culture. And have had jobs that should be dreams come true being the exact opposite. All due to culture. Culture is how you keep me at least.
