Travis recently said he doesn't train pronation because you need it only if you put your hand in a "dumb spot". Something to think about too 😀
@WeDoGamingDaily10 ай бұрын
Thats also a part of why travis almost never won if the match stopped, where devon literally almost always wins when the match stops.

@@WeDoGamingDaily well not exactly Travis has a way different style. Travis is fast, has great fast twitch muscle, but he gasses out. He needs to finish that match right away. But Devon is slow twitch muscle. So he doesn’t have the same pop but when he stops that shit he’s going to work. I have seen Devon hit fast but only until the other opponent has nothing left for him
@WeDoGamingDaily10 ай бұрын
@@hungandfaded815 yes and no, being fast twitch doesnt mean you have bad stamina, it just means that you have the explosive hit avaible. McGregor forexample never had bad stamina, he just used to much explosive power. Todd is fast twitch and he has no problem winning the match if someone stops it

the variety and frequency of competition one needs to replicate John's training isn't practical for most guys today..folks don't compete as much as they used to and there's a lot more at stake on every match..so it makes sense to combine specific training in the gym with table time... John's career was mostly spent in an era where arm wrestling was more of a hobby than a profession... things are bound to change as the sport grows
@LeahRobb10 ай бұрын
Hmmm. I think the difference is more that John was cunning with his choice of day job. Getting free flights all around the world has been an amazing benefit to his arm-wrestling exploits.
@ronniemillsap10 ай бұрын
its still a complete hobby sport. thats what makes it so great. Whimpey I dont wanna go compete often because i dont want to lose and lose 'clout' etc is bs. and so sad that people like devon dont care if they're better, they just want the 'nod'
@karuonline329410 ай бұрын
@@LeahRobbthat was a benefit of his job but I don't think he could just take time off whenever he wanted just cuz the flights happened to be cheap or free..he went to tournaments on weekends and often pulled multiple classes .. that's far ahead of what athletes experience today..he would stay for hours at after pulls.. practice with a variety of guys, let them find his weak spots and work on them every so often..in an era where the competition is dominated by supermatches, most athletes just don't experience that..
@karuonline329410 ай бұрын
@@ronniemillsaptrue but it's a hobby sport where atheletes can afford to be involved for just one or two matches in the entire year..that just wasn't the case in the 1st two decades of John's career.. the avenues to promote oneself and monetize involvement in arm wrestling weren't like what they're today..

Because of strap and open top roll advancements pronation becomes much more important then cupping. To apply pronation you need strong rise. Then after these two you need arm power side/hook/biceps training etc. Devon was overpowered in arm strenght easily but he maintain pronation and rising because of straps. Also straps force opposite hand to follow your pronation even in press. This force your opponent to follow your angles in center of the table and in defense. The strong antidot to those techniques is strong side pressure while mantaining strong cupping in order to counter pronation. Nevermind it sees than cupping is weaker and less endurance muscle group than pronation expecially when you face taller oponent. Devon pronates easily shorter opponents. He has huge levarage. When Devon faces taller guys like Levan, Vitaliy, Curdecha. He has some problems with that pronation lines because opponent cupping match or overmatch Devon pronation and he cannot engage properly. So it depends. Devon focus on that because it works for him. For other guys cupping may be much more important than pronation. The problem with cupping is that you are forced to reach your opponent which can be countered with back pressure. So you need to choose your approach wisely. Facing tall opponent with extremely strong pronation, backpressure and rising in straps makes all your weapons hard to engage. Thats why Devon is able to beat much stronger guys. With Dennis match. Dennis will hold in the center for as long as he can or he will try to cut with semi press trough Devons arm. If you drive Devon towards you faster enough he cannot engage properly in time and will be forced in kings move. Then maybe press/flop press.

I dont like the conventional pronation exercises with the belt hooked on to a weight from the floor. It puts the emphasis and pressure on the meat between thumb and pointer finger which is not enough to take someone's cupping. Your thumb is much more efficient over the pronation scale because it's already butting with opponents fingers. Train the thumb and having a heavy hammer curl.
