This is my favorite KZbin channel when it comes to animals, I've been doing a TON of research on guinea pigs for a while now because my parents say that we can get a pair, my dad and I need to build the cage first and I still need to get the supplies, but after that's done I will be starting to look around for a pair in a shelter that needs a good home (I'm gonna rescue them, not buy them)

This is so true! At first got one guinea pig, because my mom said I could only get a single one. But actually 4 days after we got another, and the two were familiar with each other in their pet store habitat (I didn't know to adopt yet). Earlier this year we got a third guinea pig, and they do so well together! It's like life wouldn't be the same for my first guinea pig if she didn't have two friends!

Before I got a guinea pig, I researched for weeks. I knew everything. When my piggy Muffin got used to his new home, three weeks later we got him his bud, Pumpkin. It's been a year, and they are no longer babies. They have been fighting much more often, and just built them a new cage that's 14 square feet. They will love it! Have more privacy, not be as stressed, and not fight as much!!

Magic Mathi I have a friend who has a big cage, but the cage isn't as big as it should be for 3 piggies, and they're fairly annoyed with each other and are VERY skittish, but as soon as they get taken out of the cage, they love being handled and they get along a lot better, space has a lot to do with how they act!

I got my guinea pig in 2016, with absolutely no research. She was a lonely guinea pig for a year until I got 2 more piggies to give her company. They lived together until 2017 but due to medical issues the two other sisters passed away and she lived alone for another year (she didn’t want to accept any guinea pigs). My mum never really understood the point of having 2+ guinea pigs or a big cage but I *somehow* convinced her and now I’m getting a large c&c upgrade and another piggy! ❤️

My guinea pigs FINALLY got to be together after my younger female was quarantined for 12 weeks (first pneumonia, then ringworm). My boyfriend and I were a bundle of nerves the whole introduction but now it's like they've always been together. They're both so obviously happier and more confident now that they're together. We've taken so many videos because they're so much more fun to watch now.

I recently got a young boar and he is so cute. Because of corona virus there are a lot of people in Australia that want guinea pigs and there was a waiting list of more than 60 people. And there were only two left. One had a sore on her back and was not for sale. My mum tried to look for another guinea pig but no luck. So after corona we are going to get another piggie

Very informative video as always. I always tell people that want guinea pigs how crucial it is for them to have at least one other piggy. And that they can't be kept in small cages. I'm going to be adopting two new friends for my baby girl soon! ^-^ I've had Columbia on her own for about a year now. When we got her, neither us or the person we rescued her from knew that they were herd animals. Our old place didn't have enough space for a bigger enclosure, so I've had to do my best to keep her as happy as possible until I was able to get her some friends. And now I finally can! I'm so excited to see how she reacts ^u^

Great advice and information! I had one lady who was SO hard to bond with others, but I didn't give up and bonding her with a baby female turned out to be key, she just would not bond with the other adults, so aggressive. I think a lot of people give up too easily during bonding times (they suck to watch but has to be done) or don't really think about the cage size/set up enough when trying to house a pair or more together, when simply improving cage size and space would help wonders.

What would you do in my situation? I have two male guinea pigs, both young, very sweet individually. But when they were together, for the first few months they were fine. But later on they started fighting, and i took everyone's advice and let them be because it was "just what they do, theyll sort it out." But i noticed one of my guinea pigs had open wounds on his flank that almost looked like a beehive, as well as missing small bits from his ears, with scabs forming. I have them separated right now, and they both seem to be okay. They popcorn quite a bit, they always eat and drink. But they usually lay in a single spot for most of the day, and they almost never vocalize, so I'm worrying that theyre developing depression from loneliness. I'm sure you can sorta see the issue here. Separate them and they get depressed and lonely, keep them together and they get stressed and potentially kill each other. Do i buy a bigger cage or something?

If you honestly cant have piggies together, the best option is to use a split cage. I have 3 boars in a split cage and they get along fine and it makes me feel great as I know that they will never fight when I'm away 😍🥰❤♥️

I used to have multiple guinea pigs. But a few months ago Chloe sadly died. So now Bo (the other one) is alone and i have tried everything but my mom doesn't want another one anymore but i love Bo so freaking much i won't ever be able to give her away. But anyways, i do believe that guinea pigs can be happy alone, she always runs to me and is really happy when i am with her, she popcorns, she takes naps with me haha, but yeah... it sucks when you can make those decisions yourself.. pigies can be happy alone, but they are more happy with a partner. Maybe try showing your mom some literature about it? fx. in Switzerland it's illegal to only have one guinea pig, as it is considered neglect. I actually think there's less work in having 2 pigs, because they entertain each other and react if the other is sick, plus the amounts of food and hay are not that different.

When my eldest piggy died, we showed her cage mate, Peanutbudder, her body from the safety of our hands for closure reasons. Our mindset was that if we didn't, Peanut would feel like Snowy left her. Basically, she jumped out of my sister's hands and ran over Snowy to stand on top of her. I was slightly offended, but I thought she did that because she always wanted to be the dominant one, but she couldn't because of how small she is/was. (We call her mousy) After a couple of days, we moved the cage upstairs into my sister's room. That way, as soon as my sister woke up, she would be able to feed her. But during outside time, Peanut would run laps and occasionally popcorn. She eats normally and drinks like she usually does, just a little more because it's summer. She doesn't look stressed or sad at all. This makes me feel really conflicted because my sis and I are trying to convince our parents for two new piglets (Jam and Jelly). If we did, I think Peanutbudder would love to boss around some babies and have good friends when they grow up. The only thing is, because she's so small, when the New Guinea pigs grow up, they'll easily become dominant over her as soon as they tried. I don't know what to do.

When I had my first guinea pig (last year) it was brought out of my birthday money but he was the last to be sold (apart from two females who were in the one next to him, but I didn't have enough to get both of them (ps they were ill together for a long time so they wasn't allowed to be brought separate) ). Watching this I'm glad me and my mum brought two after my first died on May 24 ( RIP Oscar ). I've only recently found this channel so I haven't properly bonded with my guinea pigs nor had them trust me too much. My mothers, Thor, one trusts me a lot more than my one, Zeus, does but Zeus is 2weeks younger and is very VERY shy. He still hasn't warmed up to me after 3months. What do I do?

I got a guinea pig a few days ago, I named her coco cause she’s brown, a cream light brown, and white. When I first got her she was super scared (obviously) and she would just hide away. But yesterday, I went back to the pet store and when I went to go get coco, I seen coco and this guinea pig all cuddled up. So I just decided to her cause I’m pretty sure coco and her already bonded. So I got her, I was about to put honey (the other one) into the cage and coco got scared at first but then when she saw honey she got super excited! For the rest of the day coco was just jumping around happily xd.

Hi, i really need help. I went to the guinea pig rescue near me, and there were 6 I was interested in. 4 were sows, but 2 were boars. Is that a problem? The sows are 1yr 4mo, 8 mo, 7 mo, and 3 mo. So idk if anybody is going to see this but im trying my hardest to convince my mom to let us get another guinea pig. I already told her that they need a friend to be kept busy at all times and that a human could never replace another piggy. She says that if i say one more thing about a guinea pig she is gonna get rid of the one we currently have (i hope she is kidding) I said i would do chores and spot clean everyday and clean the cage by myself and also feed it and play with them, she still is saying no T-T :( BTW we had two piggies at the start but one died:(

Hey I have a question... So in July fourth I bought one guinea pig and her name is Silver and in that same day I found out that Guinea Pigs are better in couples so I bought another one the next day (also female of course) that I named popcorn the thing is that they are a couple of months old already (more than ten months) but there is only one cage and since I bought Silver a day earlier she got all territorial so while she's getting bigger eating lots etc. Every time Popcorn tries to eat or even drink something she gets attacked I bought another cage and I was thinking about separating them (with a cage each) Should I? and just let them be together in floor time only? Because I'm extremely worried about popcorn but I don't want them to be "lonely" for the WHOLE day and then in the afternoon like two hours of togetherness

What do you do if the only pet stores close in your area only sell male guinea pigs? (They are in the same cage). My mum said I'm allowed to get guinea pigs after the house is unpacked (we just moved) and I completely agree with her but the only pet store in my area sell male guinea pigs. I would prefer two females but I don't know if that will happen.

Sadly I only have one, mainly because I got it from my neighbors who were moving, and sadly couldn't keep it anymore, plus the one child they got it for kind of got bored with it (the kid does have autism) plus they were actually going to get a hamster, but the people said it would be too fast for him. So far they had him for a year, and he is pretty big, the cage I have is kind of small, but I do plan to get a bigger one. In the end he seems fine on his own, he's fed, gets floor time, and cage is kept clean daily. He seems fine on his own...so I don't know if I should get another one or not...I feel like we also couldn't afford another one now either...

TheLegend27 That may be true for some cases, usually pets can help kids with special needs, but I do know his older brother told me that his younger bro did pinch the back of the guinea pig to hear it squeak....so yeah in this case no the pet was probably not put in a good situation, luckily I am taking very good care of him now.
