After it was reported that Gunna turned his back on the man that made him into the superstar his today (Young Thug), the Hip-Hop community was largely divided over how they felt. On one hand, people we're trying to give him the same treatment they gave Tekashi 6ix9ne. On the other, people couldn't imagine not listening to his music because it was too good to abandon. with Young Thug being the most influential rappers from the past decade... it's clear that all odds were stacked against Gunna. Somehow - he made it out alive. Even go as far as to literally outsell his boss/mentor in the process, and land himself the biggest hit of the year in 2023.

Gunna isn't dead because he is way to talented and got already a body of work. During the pandemic I was going through a lot of music from rap artists from the 2010s up till now and I noticed that Migos and Gunna are the strongest ones for me when it comes to being influental and actually having a lot of music that are straight bangers. I think Gunna tops Slime, Future, Travis and all the other big names. I don't talk about cloud, numbers, streams, image or money. I just recognized that I have way more songs from him that I fuck with than from any other artist of his generation. It isn't necessarily because he is rapping much better than his competition or that the others don't have good songs also. I also don't think that he really inventend something new, but he took what others created before him and perfected it. He has a good voice, is really versatile when it comes to flows and has a good instinct on what kind of delivery a song needs. The other reason why Gunna is dope is his beat picking. He has a real good taste when it comes to music and to pick up a good beat. Thugga and Lil Uzi are more creative than Gunna and I respect both artistically, but Gunna has more catchy bangers. He also found his niche and his signature sound. Projects like Drip or Drown 2 proves that he is confident enough to follow through with a certain sound on a whole album without being to concerned to please every taste. The other reason why he isn't dead is because he got cosigned by Thuggas dad and Thugga himself didn't cancel Gunna up to this day. It almost seems like Gunna got free so he can carry YSL alone on his shoulders. Also, the case against Thugga looks weak and seems more and more to fall apart. At this point it just looks like they were just jelly and prejudiced against him and YSL and just tried to take him down because they just don't like him and his success. This whole thing start to look like a dejavu just like the Rico case against Ja Rule and Murder Inc. Records.
