@EVAN MUDD maybe it was the right call, but that’s debatable
@gi0nbecell
@gi0nbecell 3 жыл бұрын
@EVAN MUDD absolutely. What makes Harry such an outstanding wizard is his inept understanding of subtle and basic magical principles. Principles, that he couldn‘t even explain, he just feels what is right, and then trusts his instinct. The only wizard who maybe had some real understanding was, I‘d presume, Dumbledore, who stimulated Harry‘s instincts, not by explanation but on the fly. One prime example for Harry „doing the right thing, magically“ are (along repairing his wand and giving the Elder Wand back) is letting Ron destroy the Locket. Those basic magical principles that are researched in the Department of Mysteries are all somehow deeply connected to Harry, and what he learns/understands in his time up to the Battle of Hogwarts is astounding: He adopts a lot of Dumbledores understanding of love, up to sacrificing himself to protect those he loved (btw, the Ron-thing is also a love-related decision, this time Ron‘s love for Hermione). Though Hermione uses the time turner, Harry is the one who understands his own role in his own past and produces a corporeal patrons in Prisoner. He fully embraces the possibility to die and is able to use the resurrection stone without turning insane (plus, he manages to stay focused during Priori Incantatem in Goblet). The only thing he is only passively associated with is prophecies, but they are just filed in the Ministry (not researched). Long story short: Harry didn‘t destroy the Elder wand in the Book because it felt wrong. For the same reason he didn‘t look for (or summon) the resurrection stone. This senitivity to subtle magical currents (?) makes him so good a wizard, and ultimately stronger than Ron or even Hermione. And they are his advantage against Voldemort, who for example underestimated the magical power of house elves.

Harry didnt want anyone to abuse it thats all...if he puts it in dumbledore's grave, when he is disarmed, (he would have as he works as an auror) the wand can be owned by the person who disarmed him and will be abused again. The fact that the strongest and most powerful wand can easily be snapped in half is mind blowing. Edit: i mean the horcruxes are so hard to destroy without appropriate tools while the elder wand made by death can just be snap in half by the athletic Harry Potter the chosen one.

@@BoogerLeader it's hard to believe it's just a very skilled wizard, that skilled wizard might very well be much more powerful and talented than Dumbledore and his lover. And that talented wizard will never be unknown specially he's the maker of the elder wand.
@MashMalloman
@MashMalloman 3 жыл бұрын
I feel like this makes perfect sense from a story telling perspective. They are selfish items in nature, they're not meant to be invincible, they're just regular items meant to make a wizard more powerful. The fact that they survived 100s of years before Harry comes into the picture and basically throws them all out in the trash shows how weak minded the previous owners were if said items were so easy to dispose of, yet lasted so long. It only took a simple snap and a drop in the forest for our protagonist to abandon 2 of the items for good, despite countless wizards before him, even Dumbledore at one point, trying to collect them all to be the most powerful wizard. Voldemort protecting his horcruxes is a sign of his obsession to cheat death, so of course they're harder to dispose of, he would do anything and everything to make that difficult. So much so that he is a self fulfilling profecy, in which he made the tool which would destroy him by trying to kill Harry.
@shiroamakusa8075

Why should it be hard? The reason people don't just break it is because it's the Death Stick, the unbeatable wand. The covetousness it inspires is what kept it safe. It's not the One Ring.
@forn8473
@forn8473 3 жыл бұрын
@@mdlkpprophecy6341 There are a few ways that argument can be negated. First of all, time. During the middle ages, information didn't spread as fast as information today - and I think due to not having paper that could be mass produced and not having access to the printing press, information in the wizarding world would also spread more slowly. So if someone crafted the Elder Wand, and especially if he kept it secret, there is no way the right story would be put on paper. Secondly, and this goes hand in hand with the previous argument, rumours and news that was spread by mouth would've been blown up, and ultimately even be put into a legend-like tale if the objects speak to the imagination of many people. The origins of that tale, inflated news and a people that would naturally gravitate towards the occult or mysterious would naturally be able to come up with such a tale. Also, you assume the maker of the Elder Wand had to be as powerful as Dumbledore. This isn't necessarily true. He could've been an extraordinarily talented _wand-maker,_ who devoted his life into creating the perfect wand, but due to his obsession with wands lacked the other skills to stand out. Take into account a time when intellectual property didn't really exist, and such a man would've been unknown to many. Secrecy could be important for him too: if word would've gotten out that he created such a powerful wand, of course people would go after him. And I think the maker would've met his doom because he was so proud of his wand and told some of his friends. One of them was jealous and power-hungry and killed the maker to get it himself, and either the arrogance in himself or the friends of the wand-maker who wanted revenge or justice spread the word and word slowly spread throughout the world.

@@swskitso Well, consider Draco's Wand switched allegiance to Harry when Harry straight up took the Wand from Draco. So, simply taking the Wand from its owner is considered a defeat. Of course, the question becomes, then, does the Wand have to be physically taken from its owner or can it merely be pilfered from its owner? Remember that Harry and Draco fought and Harry physically ripped the Wand from Draco's hands. That leads me to believe that there must be some physical altercation in which you have the opportunity to either win or lose for a Wand to consider switching allegiance. In other words, I don't think you can simply steal a Wand from its owner to switch that Wand's allegiance. I think you have to physically and forcibly take it from them. So, to answer your question, yes. I do believe if Ginny got mad at Harry one day and they had a fight and Ginny straight up disarmed Harry, she would become the rightful owner of The Elder Wand.

I don't think it makes more sense. Giving it back to its best owner was the right choice, and I don't think it was possible for him to lose it. I believe that after Harry puts it back after uniting all the Hallows, the wand no longer belongs to anyone. He knows that he has ownership of the wand, but refuses to use its power. Therefore he can't lose it because he doesn't own it anymore. However this still means that Draco can lose it to Harry because he was completely unaware that the wand had shifted its allegiance to him, and Dumbledore and others knew they had ownership and used the wands power, so they could lose it. This emphasises how selfless Harry is, because he doesn't "seek power, or popularity, he simply asks is a thing right. In itself."

I think the snapping of the Elder Wand in the Films makes more sense logically. As for the books and even the films the legend of the Hallows states that only one person would be able to bring all three together and become the Master of Death. That person is Harry because he is the last Peverell and was already the master of death just as Ignosious was. Harry was not afraid of death and treated death as an old friend. This acceptance and his ancestry made him able to be the master of all three. Dumbledore through his portrait was okay with Harry’s decision in regards to the stone and the wand because he knew that once the three hallows came to ownership by the one who mastered death, they became items no more significant then any other and whatever power they had returned to the family from which it came.

A normal wand is generally more loyal than the elder wand. The elder wand will change allegiance if anyone proves to be more powerful than the current master, however, normal wands don’t always switch sides so easily. Due to the elder wands power, the wand may switch sides more easily; that is unknown, but it is definitely not a definite yes or no. Had he disarmed an 11 year old fresh out of Olivanders, then I assume that the wand would switch sides, but if he was to disarm, say, Bellatrix, I doubt the wand would switch sides due to its longstanding allegiance with her.

Asad Chaudhry Except the Cursed Child isn’t garbage, Delphini probably doesn’t know about the elder wand, she probably wouldn’t find it anyways, plus she’s in Azkaban, and Harry has probably been disarmed before as an Auror, so the lineage of owners would be too sparse and it would become unknown, kind of like how future generations of squibs don’t know about their magical ancestry until someone eventually becomes a muggle born, but you obviously don’t just instantly know about the Elder Wand, or especially that it’s yours and where to find it, so it would have to be a crazy rare coincidence.

Yes, book Harry made a big mistake by replacing the wand with Dumbledore. Since Harry became an Auror then he for sure could be bested by a dark wizard. Even with the Holly wand returned to pristine condition. Movie Harry did the right thing. by snapping the Elder Wand. But he should have put the broken wand on display at the Auror's Office, as a warning to all else who may try to chase down the Elder wand for their own Nefarious reasons. By tossing the broken wand away, as he did with the stone, there still leaves a question for all those who have spent a lifetime questing for the Deathly Hallows.

I think Harry breaking the wand is the better option. When Ron says that they would be invincible, I think Harry recognized that the good guys themselves might be tempted by its power. On a certain level, Ron's words there might have made sense to him, and the better part of him might have recognized that as a danger. So Harry destroys it, not just to protect it from future dark wizards that might try to claim it, but also from those tempted to use its great power for "good."

it's not the same as a ghost, a painting is a memory of the subject and is not the same as the original person and it's not just the headmasters that have painting, all paintings posses free will but a lot of them are either honor bound to do some one else's will or does it for their own good.

what is even stranger is how are the memories and personality actually imbued. fannon goes for the theory that at some point, a headmaster will sit for the portrait and tie part of himself into it. they activate on the death of the subject (i think this fact was cannon, not fannon), so then the imbued part activates.

In order for a wand to change allegiance, it just has to be taken against it's owner's wishes; therefore, conceivably, if anyone showed up to the tomb and took the wand from where Harry left it, that could very well be all that was required for the wand's allegiance to change. The wand's allegiance can change even if it's master is unaware of in fact being the master of the Elder Wand (such as in the case of Draco), and the change can be triggered by the master being disarmed of an entirely different, unrelated wand. So all anyone had to do was show up and steal the wand from the tomb like Grindelwald and that would be it. However, there is a possibility that might falsify this; while the wand's allegiance may change without the master's awareness of being the owner of the wand, it may very well be the case that the master has to be aware of being bested in some way against his or her will. Grindelwald stole the wand, but did so with Gregorovic having seen the wand stolen and therefore aware of his loss. When Voldemort stole the wand from the Tomb, he did not become the owner, possibly because the wand's owner was not aware of the loss; thus not triggering a change in ownership. So if Harry left the wand in the Tomb and it was stolen, it might not immediately change allegiance to the thief until Harry was made aware of the loss (assuming he hadn't lost in confrontation in some way to someone else). One way or another, snapping the Elder wand after having repaired his own was very much the safest way to prevent its misuse in the future.

This whole Elder wand thing seems like plot hole to me. It seems ridiculous that you only have to disarm the opponent to claim the wand. And in case of Draco, he wasn't even holding the Elder wand. So whenever someone knocks down the owner even when they're not using the wand, it changes master? I think you actually have to kill the opponent to claim the wand is more correct. That feels more like what Death would've done to the wand. So Dumbledore never actually owned the wand as he didn't kill Grindelwald. Which explains why Dumbledore couldn't defeat Voldemort with Elder wand. And in the movie, Voldemort doesn't kill Grindelwald either. So in the end, the wand still belonged to Grindelwald. Not Harry.

And thats how Harry became the next owner of the wand. So what i want to say, it doesnt matter if Harry kept the wand to a safe place or even bury it with Dumbledore. I think the best possible course of events is a mix of the book, the movie, and an idea someone had in the comments of the scene on YT: Harry gently waves the Elder Wand and says _Reparo_ to rebuild Hogwarts as a tribute to when Dumbledore fixed Slughorn's place in *_Half-Blood Prince_* after the battle, then he uses it to fix his own wand, and then he snaps the Elder Wand in half so the cycle would be definitively broken as if he just put the wand back in Dumbledore's grave, he would have to go the rest of his life without being defeated or disarmed in any sort of duel. Does anyone agree with me on this idea? An added bonus, he could either give Draco Malfoy his wand back, or just keep it as a backup.

Book-Harry admitted mastery of the Elder Wand in front of dozens, if not hundreds of witnesses. He was talking to Voldemort, but everybody heard him. So his mastery of the Wand was no secret. He also revealed to those witnesses that disarming the Master of the Wand is enough to make someone the Master, even if the Master did not physically wield the Wand at the time. That increased the danger of someone attacking him with the express purpose of becoming Master of the Elder Wand. In my own headcanon, Harry himself realizes this (perhaps someone *almost* disarms him, and that snaps him into awareness of the danger), and does eventually destroy the Elder Wand shortly before joining the Auror Department.

If you got disarmed and lose your wand, what should you do to own a new wand? go back to ollivanders or is this not possible? 4. If disarming makes the witch win the wand of the loser, why did they do the duelling match in book 2 with rules "disarm only!!" without defining the rules of disarming a witch? 5. What does disarm and defeat really mean? Is disarming only restricted to putting away the witch's wand from his/her hand? What about defeat, does defeated meaning "killed"? Thank you for answering :)
