Why Harry Styles Wearing A Dress TERRIFIED Conservatives

Harry Styles' is one of music's most popular musicians. He's hot off a critically acclaimed album in "Fine Line", with songs like Watermelon Sugar, Golden, and Adore You topping the charts. He's from one of the biggest boy bands of all time, One Direction, and has blazed a trail for his solo career to flourish. And he's also become quite a popular ambassador among many fashion brands, the largest one being Gucci, for who he and Alessandro Michele have worked extensively together. And Harry's rise to fame only continued when American Vogue published their December 2020 cover, where Harry donned a lacey blue Gucci Gown, which sent the whole world into a tailspin. If it wasn't Harry's fans that were going crazy over the cover, it was conservative commentators like Candace Owens and Ben Shapiro, having a go at Harry over the fact that he was not conforming to the idea of masculinity within the rigid constructs created by Western society. The quote "Bring Back Manly Men" donned all sorts of responses and even got an Instagram caption mention by Harry himself. But the notion that Western Society should conform to these really rigid notions of what men and women should wear is stupid, as all over the world, that idea of what is men's and women's clothing has changed over time. From Ancient China, to the First Nation's of the Americas, to European high heels worn by Kings and Queens alike, and so much more, we must work to ungender or degender clothing, and colors while we're at it, because it's a dumb and old practice that really helps no one. So come along as we break down Harry's Vogue cover and if you're a channel member you can see us break down all the other Harry looks that showed up throughout the shoot! by clicking the link below :)

Fun fact, kilts actually are not as old as a lot of people probably think. They only date back to about the sixteenth century. Which while still old isn't a looooong time ago. @@hautelemode The only thing that i might argue about is the term dress in this context. The clothing of the Russian Orthodox church priests was mentioned. As someone who grew up in the Eastern Orthodox faith Macedonian not Russian there is a difference in how we call the clothing. It's not called a dress and it's not even associated with it. For better or for worse a dress is associated with female clothing not male. Even if the shape might be the similar there is still a difference between a "female" dress and a "male" dress and what Harry is wearing is a "female" dress. Even in India or the middle east man and women do not wear the same thing. As a gay man my self I am all for unisex clothing probably will reduce pollution and garbage in the world. As long as male and female is attributed to the clothing and clothing is created around that concept, in that since there will be divide over female and male clothing around the world. At the end of the day Harry can wear what he wants.

so true, her logic is ridiculous. i guess its because society views masculinity as "strong" while they view femininity as "weak." which is just so dumb but all of this just uncovers all of the underlying misogyny within them.

also its so funny to see the conservatives say "we want manly men who can fix things and do manly shit" meanwhile their husband looks like a piece of gammon and harry is probably 1000x stronger than they will ever be. that man is fit!! his personal trainers in the past have commented on how he can lift a looooot

I just love how people think that things like ruffles, colors, silhouettes, etc. are actually gendered. There is no scientific rule that pink is feminine and that dresses belong to women. There is no scientific rule that men in dresses make them unmanly. We only associate it as feminine because we are used to seeing women in dresses not men. That’s why trousers were considered too manly for women in the early 1900s but now are considered genderneutral, because we frickin got used to seeing them on both genders. It’ll be the same with men and dresses. In a hundred years people will look back and think how close minded we were for thinking man in dresses are unmanly, just like women in pants a hundred years back. It’s actually laughable how these conservative people think like that. Knowing all this these people seem like little children to me who don’t understand the world yet and need a bit attention.

Harry is awesome I will always support him in everything he does. I think it’s really cool of him to just throw out the “rule books” and societal constructs of what is typically expected of men to have to be like. He is having fun with his art and exploring and open to trying new things. You can’t put art in a box or force it into a certain mold in that people will be “comfortable with”. Then it wouldn’t be art and it would just be lame and sad. 😊✌🏻🧚🏻‍♂️

It's ridiculous how conservatives need to highlight that they themselves are not attracted to a man wearing a dress. Like okay. Just like women's entire existence isn't just to be attractive to men, the same can be said that men's whole existence isn't just to attract women. The world doesn't revolve around what they find attractive. Plus, for every fragile conservative there are plenty of open minded men and women who do find those looks attractive. Harry in a dress is far more attractive than a man in an ill-fitting suit.
