As a Toon fan, I reckon there is probably a degree of the PL trying to save face. With the legal proceedings, there was a chance dirty laundry would be revealed (like the PL being influenced by BeIN and certain top 6 PL clubs), plus with the breakaway 6 clubs and the Super League, there is greater pressure for transparency and independent review. Rather than go down that route and more scrutiny, once the Piracy issue was resolved, I reckon the PL just tried to find a way to settle this without running the risk of greater prying of their secretive ways. TL,DR - just happy Ashley is gone. Having ambitious owners is just a bonus.

I don't think you can really criticise the fact Newcastle is now owned by Saudi Arabia when Abu Dhabi owns City and Qatar owns PSG. Those nations really aren't all that much better that Saudi Arabia and I don't think it would be fair to draw the line at saying it's unacceptable for one state to own a club but not another. Also, congratulations to Newcastle United for winning the 2023/24 Premier League, and to Mbappe for his Premier League Golden Boot.

I agree with the position of the EPL being soulless. But stop harkening back to days of purity of competition and sporting values. That ship sailed A LONG time ago. Football is a commodity in the global capitalist system. PERIOD. Its entertainment. That is it. The smaller local clubs provide the connection to the community. The GAZILLIONAIRE plastic oil clubs are pure spectacle, just providing a voyeuristic, ephemeral, "experience" for those with enough cash to consume it.
