I'm a little confused by the narrative. The original Hindu numerals were still a little different to those used in 'Hindu numerals' shown in this video, which seem to be the script used in more Eastern Arabic nations, to my knowledge. So there was clearly some evaluation and adaptation that occurred in the Arab world already. In fact this is why numbers used in devanagari (Hindi-style writing scripts) are distinct, having evolved from this common ancestor. Furthermore there is little-to-no evidence suggesting that the numbers more commonly in the world today originate from the angles of their forms, and looking at historical evolutions of the ways these numbers were written seems concurrent with this (of course you can make any number look sufficiently stylised to match this narrative). Nonetheless, they did mostly enter Europe through Andalusia. Finally, it is worth noting that the symbol for 0 already existed in the original Hindu numbers, and was carried into the commonly-used number system in the Arab world (indentical to the dot used today). Though this did also evolve into the 0. edit: typos

brother, i found you video really educational and interesting. but i think there are some inaccuracies in your video. 0:29 the hindu-arabic numerals refer to the modern "1234567890" numbers. the correct term is eastern arabic numerals 4:30 that one is just a theory at best. also the only relation that remains between al-khwarizmi's numbers and our modern numbers is that they're both 10 digits. i would really like to show you how the numbers evolved but i assume that comments with links are filtered. 5:53 the numbers were never angled. they were mostly curvy.

The number 13 was represented by 3 dots on top of two straight lines. The zero was a sea shell very large numbers could take a while to represent. Four hundred was a dot a clamshell a gap and a clamshell. The number 2000 was represented as 5 x 400 a straight line, a gap a shell a gap and a shell.

There is an earlier rendition of the Hindu numbering system that more closely follows the formation of the European numerals (and is unrelated to the supposed idea of angle counting). One to three are identical to European numerals as are seven and nine. Four, five, six and eight are significantly different however. The western Arabic and Eastern Arabic are significantly different from each other.

From Wikipedia - Pingala (c. 3rd or 2nd century BC), a Sanskrit prosody scholar, used binary numbers in the form of short and long syllables (the latter equal in length to two short syllables), a notation similar to Morse code. Pingala used the Sanskrit word śūnya explicitly to refer to zero. The concept of zero as a written digit in the decimal place value notation was developed in India.

No brother. When you say Indian culture don't think about Hindus only. The Indian culture encompasses both the Hindus and Muslims. It is for sure a little dissimilar to the Arabic culture albeit not significantly, rather it is a lot lot closer to the Arabic culture compared to any other; let alone opposing. People who live a rural life in Indian subcontinent would understand this quite easily. In reality, almost all old world culture has been replaced by modern western culture. Only Indian and Arabic cultures are the major cultures that still have a foothold. And the Arabic culture is only in place thanks to indopak Muslims. Just like once the Indian culture provided numericals to the Arabic culture, it again helped in a sense.

However, I just wanted to say that I think the number Zero was already present in the Hindu-system as well, and that Al Khawarizmi didn't come up with it, but just gave it its' counterpart like the rest of the numbers, and that the number zero, which was indeed written by Al Khawarizmi as 0, had already been introduced by the Indian Astronomist Brahmagupta, which was represented by a dot. Anyway, I love your videos and I just want to thank you for your amazing content. والسلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

And the "1" and "9" of the Hindu numerals you show already look like our 1 and 9. (But then again, the 5 and 6 look like our 0 and 7.)

There is a verse in Surah Al-Ma'arij which says that the day with your Lord will be equal to fifty thousand years كَانَ مِقْدَارُ‌هُ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ. (Whereof the measure is fifty thousand yours - 70:4)

Please reply me sir. Is it true that standing fatha, standing dammah & standing kasrah are equivalent symbols to alif maddah, waw maddah & ya maddah respectively.? And hence standing harakat will be stretched 2H?

I remember 1000 , as the number mentioned when discussing the term of dawah of Prophet Nuh Alaihisalam. It came like , 1000 and 50 less. Which means , 950 years , he did dawah

Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi، often referred to as simply al-Khwarizmi, was a Persian polymath who produced vastly influential Arabic-language works in mathematics, astronomy, and geography. Hailing from Khwarazm, he was appointed as the astronomer and head of the House of Wisdom in the city of Baghdad around 820 CE.

Arabic numbers were actually invented in India particularly the number zero. Europe got in touch with the new system through Arab merchants hence the name.
