@@AndrewG975 Yeah, you're right! In his prime, Tommy was tall and thin but he was physically fit...like, he was lean, but you could see that he worked out extensively, like really hard, lots of cardio, I reckon. He did have some muscle though. Small yet well developed muscles. He reminds me of Bruce Lee...

your bag work technique and skill performance has increased drastically and the video is informative and educational as always. People really under estimate the fast twitch muscle fibers in your shoulders as it really enables you to punch faster than your opponent for a quick jab to the face as a counter punch it throws peoples game off.

Just do lots of high volume reps and sets with dips pull ups push ups squats and military press. This will give a muscle growth without makin you slow and unathletic. You can start adding weight once it becomes to easy with your bodyweight.

Ron Lyle, Foreman, Ken Norton & Jumbo Cummings benched sub 500lbs; many more around 400lbs. The golden era was the most stacked generation of strongmen boxers. Previous era's did not believe in strongman training, yet the reigning champs of the most contemporary times were Sonny Liston & Rocky Marciano. Both notable strongmen.

The most important thing about training weights and boxing is understanding your muscle type. If you have fast twitch muscle fibres then you’ll always be fast and adding more muscles will only make you faster because there’s more of it, but you’ll gas out quick. And if you’re slow twitch muscle fibres then you’re always going to be slow, but you’ll have higher endurance and stamina because slow twitch doesn’t use as much energy like fast twitch muscle fibres. So I would say add muscle to supplement your boxing movement, because it’s always better to have muscles, after all they’re what makes the movement of the body. Main muscles for boxing are legs, back, shoulders, and forearms.

@@Spectre_195 the forearms acts as a shock absorber to every punch it stabilises the wrist for every impact. So it may not seem like it, but forearm muscles is one of the most important muscles to develop power for boxing that’s why you see guys like Beterbiev and GGG training their forearms regularly.

Yep, function and skill mastery of compound movements related to boxing. A big arm that can rep 50 one arm pushups vs 12 reps bench press will yield totally different results. Its the backstory to the final manifestation that counts. I think that kinetic chain exercises such as weighted single limb calisthenics at higher rep ranges should be the idealised standard of potentially hypertrophic training, alongside boxing due to carryover. Legs, core, whole back+neck, shoulders, wrists and forearms are the main focus.

Bro look when I used to train with pros one in particular who was in the UFC( not gonna call a name) but he did have the promotion. I was fresh outta the gym here in Flatbush Brooklyn(anyone who knows, knows that Flatbush is where the big meatheads are in the hood at least). So I joined an MMA gym again with one guy who was in the UFC feeling big and strong I got broken down bro man the beat the fk outta me but I need it. Basically beat on until I was shredded and gained the ability to do it to others in the gym. Mainly the pros did that too me but the extra muscle did help with in my opinion absorption and recovery. I was not however as fast as them and slowly overtime gained that muscle endurance and reflex. Although I would never trade the experience some shid was unnecessary had I not put on all of that mass.

It definitely helps as long as it’s not excessive hence why the last 2 years I’ve taken a break from boxing and have strictly only been prioritising muscle growth and hypertrophy because I’ve already acquired a skill set from the age of 13 but I was always the black kid with fast hands but no power. So adding muscle is on top of speed will of course equal power it done correctly.

lmao no u are so lost. I had tremendous power when I was a 14 year old skinny little boy with no muscle at all. No calisthenics no nothing. Putting muscle helped my power by so little it's barely noticeable like 10%-20% max and I did everything right all functional muscle. It's not worth it. Power doesn't win fights. Power is not what you're missing all the greatest boxers of all time had little to no power. The kind of power u want is all genetic. The improvement u get from weightlifting will maybe help u knockout 1 or 2 more opponents out of 20
@tmoneyofficial1
@tmoneyofficial1 8 ай бұрын
@@coachingconfidant2785 I’m not saying I don’t have power now as muscle doesn’t exactly equal power as most of the most dangerous punchers in boxing history are relatively skinny. Thomas hearns Gerald McClellan, wilder etc. but abit more muscle added to my frame won’t do any harm. In fact it will further help with the force in my shots. Since I have fast twitch muscle fibres. If it’s excessive muscle that isn’t functional then it won’t help my performance in anyway but if it’s functional muscle it definitely will help. Because I was just skinny. Now I’m lean muscular and I definitely feel a difference in my shots now compared to then as then I could barely even hold 16oz gloves up.

@@tmoneyofficial1 bro everyone has fast twitch muscles. The power u add from muscle actually comes from the weight itself not the actual muscle u sacrifice speed for it. This fast twitch thing being responsible for power is a myth and needs to go. It's not really worth it the only reason I added muscle was to go up in weight class. It ends up you just trading speed for heaviness so that why ur punches feel heavier but yh it ends up cancelling out and any power u gain from doing it right is very minute and u sacrifice other things in your game, and time taken away from boxing is just hurting your skill which trumps all improving power is low ROI in this sport but too many people chase it to feel good about themselves...it's an ego thing

I hit really hard. I weigh 180, im not lean im a little thick but im bbuilt for sure. I hit hard like guys that are light heavyweights and im way faster. Im naturally fast and explosive and i instinctively knew how to throw punches (not like a trained individual but way better than most people). I did end up traingin though my trainer says i have alot of power in my hooks both left and right, my right straight is my strongest punch though for some reason, all my punches have power though. I dont have big chest muscles and i dont have big biceps. I have powerful triceps lats a traps and it shows and my forearms are shredded (they arent big though but they are hard and my wrists are strong), my traps are especially strong though i feel like it makes my punches more solid because they hold my punch stiff instead of letting the punch push back against the persons body if you understand what i mean. My shoulders are strong and feel hard but they arent big they actually have an unusual shape to them, they are wide from front to back but they dont pop out super far from side to side. But i think alot of my power comes from my upper legs which just look powerful and i have a meaty powerful ass and hips hahahahah like for a guy my ass is full and strong. I catch women looking at it in the gym everytime i go hahaha, like seriously even guys probably look at it, it definitely is unusual to have an ass like mine as a guy hgahahaha. I also have pretty developed serratus muscles. My calves are strong and durable but my muscle bellies are small so they look skinny kind of but they are built. I can jump high but nothing crazy however i can sprint like a motherfucker. I do tire out fast though. Like i can explode and be insane but i cant keep it up for long. Im also really good at wrestling as well and i think my upper legs and butt muslces and back have alot to do with how powerful i am in grappling. My shoulder blade muscles also really stand out. Even whem i am fatigued if i am punching with technique they are powerful. I do tire out quickly though. Thats like my biggest downfall.

One thing people don't get straight is about the fighter body type. "Muscles are bad, that's why there's no fighters with bodies like Ronie Coleman", no, that's not because of it fighters are usually more lean or even fat, they are like that because fighting preoritizes fighting, not weight lifting and fighting is an aerobic exercise most of the time. The amount of dedication necessary for building that amount of muscle means that you will not have time and energy for fighting training, simple as that. There's only so much you can do in a day but skill training demands maximum training volume and fighting must be seen as a physical skill training, not a body development training, training to fight have more similarities with training for competing in chess than training for competing in bodybuilding. That's why you don't see absurdly muscular bodies, having mister olympia level o muscle means you are not fighting, stretching or studying the fight game, you are contracting, weight lifting and studying bodybuilding. And guess what...you need to train to be good at fighting.
