the point here is that you can learn to calm yourself down to a point, because panicking while drowning is the worst thing to do. Granted most people who drown because they can't swim, and then panic.

Nope. It is not the oxygen we need but the release of Co2 in our lungs. That Bajau people have oversized spleens that help them regulate the toxic Co2 in their systems.

@@dannydevito7000 what hes getting at, is that the URGE to breathe is caused by your body's need to get rid of C02. I dont think anybody is arguing that humans dont need oxygen. Hes just saying the reflex that causes you to gasp for air is caused by your body's reflex to purge C02 when it builds up and then take in oxygen.

so, this is where you're wrong. if no oxygen gets to the brain after about 2 mins, you're brain damaged. Freedivers oxygenate their entire systems with the breathe up, then full their lungs to capacity before doing a pool breath hold (static breath hold). Meaning that oxygen is still getting to the brain for several minutes. The issue is that CO2 builds and your limbs are starved making your brain send signals for you to breathe. I'm a freediver myself. Certified Intermediate with PFI. the body is capable of amazing things man.

I took 30-40 seconds to relax then started a timer on my phone. I held my breath for 2 minutes and 45 seconds. I think one thing that really helped me with this was that, at this time, I had been playing clarinet for over 4 years .

lad... you must be sick with something, a sedentary person like me can stand almost 2 minutes holding my breath, 30 seconds is just... no

I know how to do that lung packing thing, I didn't know that was something divers do, but I definitely knew it helped before holding my breath. My parents used to worry about me because when I would play in the pool with my siblings to find coins I would be under way longer lol. Something about slowly drifting looking for coins is so soothing to me, all I could hear was gentle water movements and my heartbeat. I also used to just sit underwater and meditate or look at the sky so they thought I was drowning 🤣

Michael Dromes doesn't mean you can't train to get to like 20 minutes without having huge lungs. It's like intelligence, yeah you can be born with a higher intelligence but if you don't train it another person born with inferior intelligence can easily be smarter than you if they develop it.

Everyone can train in anything, but only the genetic elite (Who also trained just as hard) can be the leader in that said thing. Hard work beats just talent, but when talent works hard, everyone else is fucked.

I think the stimulus (the one where cold water touches the face and thus the heart rate is decreased) evolved during the winter, this helps animals hibernate, but also this might be helpful when an organism is drowning or flowing down a river, if the heart rate is decreased then the rate of breathing is also decreased ever so slightly.
