Also I am in hair school right now and I feel so old compared to the rest of the girls. I felt I had to lie about my age just to fit in. Not relevant to Hollywood but relevant to feeling old!

As someone who just came into their 30s, I look back at teenage pictures and I cringeee. 30s just look and feel so much more confident. 🙌🏼 I think Christy looks like a full on babe now, plus it’s kinda weird to think teenagers are better looking (unless you’re a teenager.)

I'm not a celebrity in Hollywood and I'm 28 years old, and I still feel that horrible guilt just over being "older". I find myself feeling jealous of kids who are in their teens or early 20s because they don't have to worry about being old and "not relevant" anymore and time isn't running out for them like it is for me. Every time I tell someone how old I am I get the "oh wow! you look good for your age. You look 18-21" for my age? I'm only 28! I'm really tired of feeling this way and if I don't get past it, it'll only get worse from here the older I get. I hate how much our culture idolizes youth :/

I would never want to be a teenager or in my early 20s again. Yes you are young but people that age are also immature and lack experience so their youth is basically wasted. I like being an adult so much better because of the mental maturity that comes with it.

I turned 30 this year... I was dreading it back when I was younger but into my 28-29th year I had been doing some major self reflection and I realized I'm a lot more comfortable with myself the older I get. I don't care about people's opinions in the same way I used to. It's weird to think that now I'm 30 I feel the most confident I ever have and that I'm living my most honest self. I think the patriarchy realizes that the older women get the less they require the approval of men and thus the less controllable they are.

With all of these youngsters on TikTok as an example, my first reaction was, “I was not nearly as mature at that age!” But now I’m realizing that you aren’t really supposed to be mature at 14 haha 😂 I was absolutely naive and innocent as a teen and that’s absolutely ok! It seems like kids are growing up SO fast these days and it’s wild. I also love your point about realizing how fragile life is. I think it’s cyclical tho. is it bc there aren’t enough interesting roles that there aren’t enough older actresses or is it because they aren’t hiring older actresses for the roles to begin with? like she said that one lady on imdb who didn’t get hired once they found out her real age even tho her appearance etc. presumably did not change.

I notice with Hollywood movies that the majority of them have a lot of aging men with young women, like romance movies, action movies, etc. It's not fair that women are held to this ageist standard and that not many women act a lot as they get older. I'm honestly not surprised, though. It seems the Hollywood has an unhealthy obsession with youth.

I am 25, and I COMPLETELY agree with you on every point you brought up. Especially the portion you mentioned about these young girls acting and dressing in ways that are honestly inappropriate for their age. Tiktok and instagram have become free real estate for creeps and predators. It is sad, because I think this idea and concept of body positivity is good, but posting it on media where it can be exploited is not smart at all. I think tiktok and instagram needs stronger guidelines to help protect these young girls and boys, and I wish we could raise more awareness about this without people claiming "don't shame them!" It isn't shaming to tell someone that they can dress how they like, but don't share it on social media where predators are so prevalent and can do whatever they want with your information, photos, videos, and more...

Maybe they felt bad they were growing older, as well. To the contrary, I feel so good about growing older. I still feel blessed and happy to be alive. I don't feel old or understand why growing in your femininity is bad. But holy shit, did the heat turn up once I turned 30! Every year I hear from OTHER WOMEN how awful it is. Lol. I haven't experienced this phenomenia with men, just women, especially ones older than oneself. Whether taught or inherently acquired, some people have a toxic relationship with aging, regardless of the industry they are in.

Is Riley Weston the actress you mention at 1:35? She was 31 in 1998 and had trouble finding acting jobs, so she posed as a 19yo and was hired to act and write for the J.J. Abrams series Felicity. When her real age got out she was dumped from the show. That set off much discussion about age bias in Hollywood. She was interviewed on 60 Minutes about this. It was a cause celebre at the time.

Aside from that being logically true, there is also a great video on youtube from Vsauce touching on why time seems to speed up the older we get. Basically, the novel experiences we have (which slow time down for us) peak in childhood, and the novel experiences in adulthood lessen dramatically the older we get. Hence, time flies for us as we get older and each year appears to go faster.

I am dowm to get older, it's exciting and no matter what it's always going to be new. Our first time being one age, that we will never be again. But I do hate watching my parents grow older. That gets a little harder every year for me.

I'm excited to see the underground fights against aging.... I stumbled into the world of growing grey on Instagram and stopped dying my hair 8 months ago. I have grey coming in and I love it. I've never felt as comfortable and confident with myself as I do now at 35.

What Hollywood needs is the diversity that matters like actresses who haven’t even been famous in their 20’s but later as more main characters without being relegated to one dimensional mom roles all the time and having more adventures!

I remember headlines that Anne Hathaway addressed the ageism in Hollywood and yeah, older actresses tend to get shoved to the side. It doesn’t matter if they were in the highest rating stuff

I'm proud of being my early thirties now since recently turned 32 but everytime I go somewhere somebody looks at me and says you look 18 and I considered that as a compliment and yes while I do miss being that age it starts to get annoying real fast and very agitating because I told them my real age and I have to convince a lot of people about that but some are still are shocked or surprised. It's crazy

I love how you have this perfect way of explaining things that I can just truly understand and feel like I can almost agree 100% with in every single video, or at least see where you're coming from if it isn't something I personally relate to. My spirit age is 23, I think. My real age is 30, soon to be 31 in March.

I'm 33 and I feel somewhere between 12 and 17. The rumor about Jessica Biel was that she was tired of playing the "Good girl" /"Preacher's kid" and she wanted to break free from the image. She suggested that Mary become more rebellious, and they did a little of that, but I guess not enough for her liking so she tried to break her contract.

When I was 7, I didn’t have cable, and when the kids at my school reenacted episodes of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, I couldn’t keep up. When I finally got cable at age 12, I watched Zack and Cody, and the same kids told me, “we don’t watch that anymore, we’re watching Degrassi now.” I watched Degrassi at age 14, and they said, “We don’t watch TV anymore, it’s boring.” My point is that they were so obsessed with acting older than they were, trying to act “sexy” and mature and use adult language, and they really thought they were really cool for using it, when they were literally children that were not even teenagers yet. It was really unnerving and disgusting and made me feel like a baby because they made me feel that way. They would make fun of me behind my back and say that I was too naïve and didn’t get jokes.

I think you and the other actresses that are getting older in Hollywood should move here to England. Our actresses actually age its amazing they have wrinkles and everything 🙂 and no plastic surgery,no age limit on what work they get and there not on channels that are marketed for a certain age. It's like having a lot of meryl streeps and bettie whites 🙂🙂

So yesterday I went to a bakery with my boyfriend and we were looking at the treats through the glass case like everyone else. An old couple who was there kept looking at us and the man was like “Ohhh young people talking about sweets.” And his wife said “Just wait till she can’t keep it off in her 30’s and 40’s” Even if she didn’t mean to be rude, it still hurt my feelings. I used to deal with an eating disorder in my teen years and what she said triggered the heck out of me.
