There is no doubt that Edward Norton is one of the most talented actors of his generation. He instantly got his talents noticed when he made his feature film debut as Aaron Stampler in the 1996 legal thriller Primal Fear. The role even earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
He continued creating iconic characters for moviegoers in the 90s and starred in movies like American History X, Fight Club, and The People vs. Larry Flynt. In the following century, he was mainly known for starring in Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom and The Grand Budapest Hotel.
But lately, the talented actor has gone missing from Hollywood. So, why has Hollywood stopped casting Edward Norton?

I think hes a crap actor tbh. History X seemed amazing at the time but when I watch it back he feels really out of place in that role, I dont believe him. Hes goofy it fight club, it works, but its not actually a great actor giving a great performance, I think when u watch it back again youll find hes quite poor. I dont think hes believable in either part, the more I saw of him over the years the more he always just seemed to be ed norton in every role, hes not a character, hes just himself doing ed norton and its actually quite plastic, its not even like jack nicholson doing jack nicholson yet again where jack nicholson is actually really quite good being his usual self.

necaacen It”s your opinion and that s great but a lot of people disagree with you. He can’t just play himself in the films The Score and Primal Fear due to the roles he played in those films. I can”t explain that better due to spoiling it for people who have not seen those films. Just both show great examples of him acting at different roles. Just the same if you did think he did not act well in Fight Club or History X you set pretty high standards. Mind you I think Tom Cruise pretty much plays himself in every role I have seen but I consider him a brilliant actor as well....

Norton is also a lot smarter than most of the people he works with, which is probably why he gets labelled as difficult - he wouldn't be the first intelligent actor who had this problem. He probably would be better off as a director than as an actor

I agree but overall he seems way too difficult to work with. We all know that horrific person in the office to be around, even if they were pretty good it's always worth trying to find someone else who is comparable for a project that won't drive you crazy

What? The reason, the almost well known reason he got blacklisted, is he took the Hulk movie hostage try to change the story for his own benefit when Marvel try to build continuity, adding all kinds of emotion scenes for no reason, cursing all over the site, almost shut down production, "didn't give him enough control" that's guess work and totally stupid thing to say, actors shouldn't really have creative control before they are proven, and Norton is not proven, he didn't get good sales and he didn't get top awards, all he got is a reputation from critics and certain type of poser audiences, that's far from enough. Norton is pretty the exact same character he portrayed in birdman, always changing plot on the go, that's a privalage only Top Top star can have, guys like Tom Cruise, hollywood tolerates a lot of assholes but you have to make them money for them to do so, and Ed Norton can't.

@@therocklau Not proven? Fight Club, Red Dragon, American History X, Rounders, The Illusionist, The Italian Job, The Incredible Hulk, The People vs Larry Flynt. Come on, I'm not trying to argue at all but that's just a ridiculous statement. Fight Club alone is serious depth and talent. I would compare it to Johnny Depp in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Incredible performances in both films. I am sure he is difficult to work with, but so was Gene Hackman (rated in the top 10). That still didn't stop Clint Eastwood from personally asking him to star in Unforgiven and pull off his best performance ever (IMPO). It won him an Oscar as well.

im one of the older millennials who are not worshiping the marvel that fanatically although i do follow the mcu movies and like it, but there's too many ignorant millenials and the younger generation who doesnt know ed norton are hating him for rejecting to play the hulk n saying he must have regret it, well they just cant understand not everyone is fancy of superhero characters or movies, there are other genres in the world for fork sake.. ed norton is not just iconic in fight club n american history x, i first watched n admired him when i watched the illusionist..all these childish mcu fans, i cant even~

Its understandable that he wishes to spend a bit more time with his family, children grow up so fast and i can understand that he would want to be around more and spend quality time and enjoy holidays with them. So, from that perspective I would give Edward Norton a massive round of applause.👏🤝👍😊🥰

Edward is absolutely amazing. Seriously. He is THE most underrated actor in Hollywood. Not to mention that he is extremely likable. I don't know where the hell you get off making a show called: "Why Hollywood Stopped Casting Edward Norton." Typical ragazine on Social media. No-one gives a damn what hack critics like you think anyway.

I gather that Norton gets so absorbed in some of his movie roles, he's supposed to be very intense that other actors have found him difficult to work with and some directors have found him awkward so therefore maybe reluctant to use him in the future. In some of the movies mentioned I have found a lot of his performances to be very good.
