You were right love, we're proud of you for making a stand. They also paired a woman who was competing for the women's prize, with her husband in the last round

She could have mentioned very clearly she got 7 women pairing out of 9. All what she is saying unfair pairing .I could not understand it either what unfair pairing is she referring to until someone on chat clarified it !

Find out this: % of women players faced by all women players (add for all rounds for all women players). % of women players faced by all men players (add for all rounds for all men players). Both figures should be close. Also this figure should be close to the % of women in the tournament. If the figures are very different, we can find the probability of this happening and statistically determine if there was a bias in pairings (Alternative hypothesis). If you pay me, I can do it :). Hire a statistician otherwise! Probably I will do it anyway.

The % should actually be slightly higher for women faced by men. Because if you are one of the women then you have one less potential female opponent

This incident is long over but just wanted to say the number of times she talked about creating "better games for the chess fans" shows her class... Maybe this is why she can't get to the very top... too focused on other people rather than herself...

Is there gambling on these games?

No, but I heard some chess geeks like Magnus are featured live on wpt.

I don't understand her problem. Can someone explain?

She gets paired with noobs, mostly women. Because the chess world is sexist

Angelo Wolff Is there proof for this because it's quite an accusation

Uhm. she played 7 women in 9 round open tourni. She already has the title for women's world champion. I'm sure she wanted tougher opponents so that the games could be interesting and worth watching. I don't really need proof because she explains it in this video. 0:21 - She speaks about playing 7 women players in 9 rounds. 1:14 - She speaks about how the pairings from the beginning of the tournament were unfair or unmatched, mainly for the other women who have to face a World Champion. 2:15 - She wants to create interesting chess games for the fans and not straight forward winning games that show no sense of competition. Obviously, the way she reacted by blundering opening moves was quite immature, especially at a hosted event. There are hundred of alternatives that she could have come up with that would deem more effective than putting on a show. Just seems like you didn't listen to her while she was speaking during the interview.

Angelo Wolff You didn't have to write out her answers, because I deem her answers unsatisfying. I understand that if there was any manipulation in the pairings, it's unacceptable, but who would benefit from such a manipulation? Actually it makes her chances of winning higher. Could that be the goal of a sexist conspiracy? It doesn't make any sense. And before assuming there was indeed a manipulation, there should first be statistical analysis to prove that her pairings were significantly different from other participants. But if it's true, she is right to bring it up and protest against it, but I dislike her method of creating the ugliest chess game ever played.

Yea, but I like the drama. Hopefully it will get more women into the chess scene. Because the ratio is quite uneven. For instance take a tournament of 90 people for simplicity: she faced 7 woman out of 9. 7:9. Would mean a fair balance tournament would contain 70 woman and 20 men. There is a bit of sexism when it comes to chess because it really is based off spatial intelligence. From studies done it was proven that men are faster at understanding spatial objects than women, and chess being a mixture of theory and spatial analysis leaves some advantage to men. Alot of people deny that statement as do I; because she is a way better chess player than I am. In the long run she is just creating awareness about the current situation of pairings, and I hope that she can intrigue more women into the chess world.

The issue is important but the way she addressed it was unprofessional and disrespectful for Lalith Babu.

Just a fleeting thought. Apologies for thinking that this complaint about pairings could be a red herring. Could there be an element of politics lurking behind? Was she pressurized to deliberately lose the game because the Chinese govt didn't want the likelihood of a Chinese losing to an Indian? Just saying.
