Also wanted to add that 10-bit color is fantastic and I enjoy just slapping on a Phantom LUT or something similar and calling it a day. I don't do a lot of crazy color grading, so it's nice to have that turnkey solution on the A7IV! Follow me on IG: instagram.com/conthemar

I feel like this video echos my thoughts exactly. I got an R6 last year because it was unclear when the A7IV was going to be released... but as more of a hobbyist, for a similar camera, Sony's community of third-party lenses and LUTs beats Canon and there are cheaper lenses available at a similar quality.

@@bestattentions Yep, I don't need the best quality out there, just enough and thankfully the A7IV gives me that quality I was looking for. I still want to rent out an R6 for fun one day or on a trip. Hope you enjoy your R6!

@@conthemar I will say: where the R6 destroys Sony is the ergonomics and feel in hand. When I first held the A7IV, I almost had to laugh at how pointy and strange it feels-obviously subjective, and I'm sure I'll get used to the differences, but it was a disappointment.

Mine will arrive tomorrow I upgraded from the A6000 so I expect an insane difference. Truth is the A6000 is still a beast but I have a hand tremor and need something with great stabilization when I don't use a tripod. Also the eye auto focus will be a luxury feature to me.
@conthemar
@conthemar 2 жыл бұрын
The auto focus is fantastic! And using Active Stabilization (small crop) really helps out with the small movements. It still looks natural when handheld which I like more than the gimbal style! Congrats!

My little a6000 has made me 10's of thousands. It is such a capable little beast and It is important to recognize what the client will value, instead of blowing money on the latest thing. (well unless that's what gives you pleasure!) I too want some better image stabilization, and though all of my deliveries are still on 1080 for web stuff, I have embraced virtue of being able to crop in if needed, and 10 bit is just so much prettier to move around. Long live the a6000!

Great video! I choose the S5 for my kind of work, but the A7iv really tempted me for the autofocus and the all intra recording options.

Honestly, the Canon color thing is a bit old. Learning color is part of being a filmmaker. Sure, if you are only going to do "reality" or non fiction, I can see that. But there are many narratives stories that can be told with a camera. Sony's have a ton of profiles for you to experiment and find you path. It's easy to mess up you colors with the Sony's but that makes you a better camera man, no training wheels.

I got the Canon R6 and absolutely in LOVE with it. Yes the RF lenses are expensive but am a big Sigma fan boy and choice those. At this price point R6 A7 IV S5 or the Z6II are all fantastic camera and all depends on your shooting needs even after the Sony A7 IV release I still have no regret at all. However if I were to purchase one of these right now. I would have a hard time choosing to be honest Good review dude!

I've just had my A7 IV arrive today. I've also got a Lumix S5 at least for 2 more days which I've own for about 7 months. Absolutely love the S5 but I bought it mainly for vlogging and solo youtube on my other channel I started. Unfortunately the continuous autofocus in video although not terrible is a bit inconsistent. It can work great at times if a little slow but it's not dependable. I found my self over monitoring this to much and got in the way. So the S5 is being traded in to offset the money just spent on A7 IV. I've not had much time to play around with the A7 IV yet.

Great choice. I was confuse between a7iv, z6ii and R6. I need to be honest af and subject tracking. Here I minus Z6ii. But it's a fantastic camera. Then I choose a7iv over R6. Because I love higher megapixels. Don't you think although R6 got 1053 nfp but a7iv performs better than R6. But I was hoping 15 fps and 10 fps Uncompressed raw. This only thing is my regret. A7iv is king.

I did the "squeeze" test. Z6ii, R6 and A74... sony A74.. is the only one when you gently squeeze the grip...there is a plastic cracking and creaking sound... reminds me of lego blocks after you make a lego hand gun as a kid and you squeeze the stack of legos "the grip'... that plastic creaking cracking sound; and I have all 3 bodies.

yeah it's really just a plastic square box, not very creative inducing vs something like a fuji camera, but its a plastic box that does great 4k and autofocus so can't complain too much I guess

I purchased the A7IV not too long ago for the same reason you did. I cannot afford those RF lenses on Canons. Personally I’ve always found Canon and even Nikon to have a more pleasing color science. There are many great photographers for all of these camera platforms but in general I do find Sonys to have a sterile/clinical look to their stills.

Yeah, I don't see myself using it alot for photography, once I can travel I'll probably get an X-T3 or something to pair with my x100f and use the a7iv only for video. I'm too much of a fuji fan to walk away from Classic Chrome :(

Other than MAYBE the 24-70 f/2.8, which native lens do you think Canon outclasses Sony? I personally don't see it--just the opposite actually (please tell me what lenses Canon has to compete with Sony's 20mm 1.8, 24mm 1.4, 35mm 1.4, and 50mm 1.2?. And I would not include the 28-70 f/2 as a reason to be in the Canon world, as that lens according to reviews is not that great wide open, not to mention its size, weight and cost (I have not tried it--it fits no need I have). In my view Canon is in Sony's dust at this point--and personally I'm happy about that considering all the intentional crippling Cannon has done on its bodies and lenses in the past. Great marketing and past laurels only brings you so far--bye bye Canon.

I think canon Rf has some glass thats really far better than other brand: 85mm 1.2, 70-200 f4, 100mm macro, 15-35mm. The 28-70 is ridiculously heavy and bulky but its quality is outstanding. But i choose to stay with Sony as they are more compact and lightweight, both about the body and the lens. Its quality may not be the best, but still more than enough for most of us.

If they’d ever put the X S10 on sale with the kit lens I’d buy one as a hybrid. Fuji AF also worries me a little. Sony is killing AF right now. I own a ZV-1 and it’s a pretty cool little video camera. Not sure I’m ready to spend big money on full frame.
