Nice choice! Sony definitely seems to be the way these days for video (Panasonic at a very close second now starting with the S5IIX). People crap on how their lower end cinema series line aren't actually cinema cameras, but they are the right tools for the job for a lot of video shooters. I'm glad you didn't think solely about specs and more about what the right tool for your use was! You will actually get better colors out of pretty much all of the recent Sony cameras than any Canon mirrorless camera for video because Canon uses CLog-3 vs Sony's SLog-3: CLog-3 is older and not super flat compared to CLog-2 (which is only in their cinema cameras, and not even the R5C), which is about equivalent to SLog-3. Most films are shot at super 35 still which is APS-C so there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Everything about this move goes against what most of the modern hype about cameras is (full frame, crazy specs, "colors," etc.) and I'm all for it. I looked into the S5IIX as well, but it would’ve been a larger barrier to entry with the lens choices and what not. Also, we’re definitely on the same page when it comes to everything you said. I appreciate the kind words! Sony just hit all the categories for me at the price point I was looking for. Perfectly happy with the Sony so far!

Thanks for your video. My work is event & concert photography, both video and still image. I plan to use Sony A7Riii for still image as A Cam, and use FX30 as B Cam for video purpose. I used to confuse to choose between FX30 and A6700 before, but your video make me clear that if I want my B Cam for video, don’t worry about losing some function for still image because I can shoot with my A Cam. In some situations, I can shoot some different focal length with my B Cam for still image, but the purpose of B Cam is for video and FX30 is suitable for this job because it is one of the best APSC cinematic camera on the market right now.

A nice companion to that lens is the Sony 35 1.8 OSS or 85 1.8, the sigma 16 1.4 or the viltrox 23 1.4 . You can get these second hand for less that $300. The APSC third party market is fire!!! good luck

I’ll keep an eye out for some of those! I definitely want to get one thats better for low light. I usually prefer the look of a longer focal length so that 35 or 85 sounds 👌

@@chrisschackart Use your custom Slog3 LUT in PPLUT1 instead of as Cine EI and you will get pretty clean 2500+ ISO. ;-). Not bad on low light at all with specially with a fast prime. Also phantom LUTs are a must if you want to see what these Sony sensor can do. Really amazing.

With all due respect to "Canon color" argument, I'm not sure if those guys don't notice the yellow-ish tent in Canon footage that's 100% incorrect. It has the same yellowish/cream-like tent that iPhone has, so maybe that's why some people like it. I think it's good for those with pinky skin to complement their skin but it's not accurate at all. Fuji colors are filmic and I personally like them, but I always prefer to start with a neutral footage that Sony, since A7SIII, provides. Anyway you can transfer your color science to whatever you like with one click with Cinematch.

I have a R5C and I bought a Sony ZV-E1 for my gimbal. The overheating isn't a problem for me I prefer the full frame and awesome low light!

I shot Canon for 15 years, I moved to Sony 4 years ago, best thing I ever did. Sony don’t cripple their cheaper cameras, the FX30 is the same as the FX3 except for the sensor, same with the A7iv vs A7riv just a different sensor, but everything else is the same basically. But when Canon make a cheaper model, they cripple the hell out of them, they make the camera body worse, software remove features etc forcing you to buy the more expensive body, I was well over that stuff. You should sell a Canon body and get another FX30, it’s better using cameras with the same button and menu layout for muscle and brain memory, and it makes grading easier, or get and FX3.
