The factory makes the control arms purposefully weak so that in an accident they bend first because those arms are cheap and easy to replace. When you have really beefy aftermarket arms sometimes you can bend or break the mounts or subframe etc

The most important point that you forgot to mention is that UCAs in the front fix camber when it comes to alignment. Yes they give you about 2inches of droop but the most important factor is that they keep your spec alignment which helps your car drive like it should and not wear your tires unevenly. Love how your rig looks man! Keep up the great content coming!
@bugobe5 жыл бұрын
Don't forget about caster too. The stock UCAs on Toyotas give you almost 0 caster as it is, when you lift it you lose what little there is and the truck is a pain to drive straight.

You have a nice setup. Asking a mechanic questions while he is working is not a good idea. You can tell you were distracting him because he gave u very vague/brief answers. Hes trying to concentrate on the task. So u got him trying to install the stuff correctly, and answer your questions. You need to let the guy concentrate so he can do his job correctly and not make mistakes. It's better to ask your questions before or after the job. Or add narration during editing.

Yep. Been there, before. "Sir, I don't mind talking to you, just let me know what you want me to do; focus on your vehicle getting the work done properly and efficiently, or stop what im doing so I can focus on you." To his credit, he is trying to glean information that some of us that have worked with our hands for years, seem to have within our double helixes - which I can respect. He is just doing it the wrong way, at the wrong time. If people would use their Google devices for something other than social media, the World would be a better place. I just remembered a few times in my early years of wrenching where I had a customer asking me all kinds of questions while I was trying to work. I politely left the vehicle, went to my manager and asked him if he wanted to pay me to be interviewed, or to perform the necessary repairs to the vehicle. Of course he came out, took the customer back to the corrale where he belonged, and I finally got the vehicle finished. I will always say that Informed customers are better that the alternative, but damn...

YOUR EMERGENCY BRAKE CABLE GUIDE that is attached to the stock drivers side REAR LOWER Control arm and has the E brake cable running THROUGH IT..... .... Get a pair of pliers and grab it and STRAIGHTEN it out so the the sheathing does not start being CUT by the cable guide. I just so happen to be a Mechanical Engineer by trade and a back yard mechanic for over 32 years. With owing over 100 cars in my life (hand to God) I've had my share of lift installs. So even with all my experience, I know enough to let a shop do it. I am to old to be rolling on the ground (47 lololol). Now I can afford to pay some (complaining about his job) 30 year old to do it. A lift really helps. If I had one I would do them all day long. lol Again, Congrats and God Bless. Oh and Thank you. My questions if you don't mind..... 1- Does it come with Front Diff drop kit and brackets for the reservoir shocks, front and back.? 2- did you use the 52700 rear coil springs or the 3" over lander 52800 springs?

I still enjoy the channel, but from an editing/viewing standpoint the constant cut ins and cut backs are very distracting and frustrating to the flow of the video. It’s become somewhat of a signature edit for you, but it’s very noticeable in this video. It used to be amusing for a quick cutback to explain one thing in depth, but when it happened 4 times in a span of 10 minutes it takes away from the overall production. Just as I’d feel I was getting into what was going on you’d cut back to a 2 minute ramble about something. Anyway, just one persons perspective. Have been enjoying the truck updates-it builds the anticipation for what’s yet to come. Looking forward to more adventures-come explore Texas, would love to see your take on Big Bend!

@anthonytrujillo79716 жыл бұрын
The rear upper control arm links are designed that way to give torsional resistance. The bushings have no flex in them so when your suspension articulates or you take a corner it's relying on the sway bar and those upper links to keep the vehicle flat. You would notice added body roll without them. Maybe the Kdss will pick up the slack.

My old 3rd gen was an absolute tank, I can't wait to build up my new 5th gen
@EmpTy-kf2rq6 жыл бұрын
No, alignment person won’t adjust the rear arms. Better flex because the OEM sleeve doesn’t rotate within the bushings whereas those do. The reason you need to reset the bushings on all OEM bushings after doing a lift otherwise you’ll tear the OEM bushings.

Nice film. I have icon stage 7 on my FJ cruiser as well. I went with the Billet aluminum parts. However it was not necessary. Looks cool but the metal tubes would have been fine. The system makes lots of noise. But you know that already. I've been running the setup for about 5 years. With no problems. One thing you might want is. Total chaos front lower control arms. The race version gives you more ground clearance. And man are they stronger than stock. I even jump my FJ now and then. No problem doing that ether. Have you had any trouble with your setup?

Jason, I lost my Wrangler due to an accident so I’m looking at buying a 4Runner off-road. If I’m understanding correctly you kept the KDSS and added the ICON suspension. From your knowledgeable background with your Toyota, is the KDSS worth it? Can you install the Icon suspension without the KDSS and does it ride just as well? Right now the car market is crazy! Used 4Runners run as much as a new one but you have to wait to get a new 2022 for up to 6 months! So I’m trying to find a 4Runner OffRoad that I can get wheels and start building. So I’m in sponge mode as I adapt to a new car. Any advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely yours, Robert

I get that some people are starting to feel detached from your channel because you’re obtaining something that’s unattainable to most. Also, the fact that someone else installed it, makes it “bought not built”. With that said, I definitely feel envious, but I can’t hate on someone who makes an honest living and has the financial means to have these things professionally installed. A true “off-roader “ does not entail having to install and build everything yourself. At the end of the day, as long as you use the rig for it’s intended purpose, you’re good to go. Keep doing what you’re doing man. I have LONG way to go with how I want my rig to be, but it never stops me from going outdoors and camp in remote places. Cheers!
@SwellRunner6 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I don’t get that at all. The money I spend is nothing compared to many that I follow. I’ve been watching so many for years wondering how the heck they afford this stuff. I’ve had my 4runner for almost 3 years and I’m just now getting to what many would consider a proper suspension. If anything I’m late to the game! I didn’t install my first suspension setup and it was infinitely simpler. And honestly I don’t personally care to do an install myself, I typically don’t have the time to spare.

Really interesting video. Can't wait to hear more on how the suspension handles. Are you planning on any performance minded upgrades like exhaust, supercharger etc? Really enjoy your videos Jason.

Congratulations on the ICONS, I have the same setup on my 2011 Tacoma. Did you end up getting a steel or aluminum bumper for your 4Runner? I ordered a Demello aluminum bumper and Smitybilt 10k winch for my rig hope to have it installed next month. Based on your video my guess they used the 650lb rated coils on the front shocks? I ask because I want to get other people’s feedback with ICON shocks holding up the weight once a bumper and winch is installed....I’m thinking the 650 coils the icons shocks come with should work out just fine👍😎 Your thoughts?
