So I just left the doctor's office and she couldn't prescribe me Naltrexone and referred me to an outpatient facility. Has anybody ever experienced having difficulties getting this prescribed?

Yep! A few doctors refused before I found one that did. Are you in the US? We have a private program for this treatment and can refer you to a doctor in your state. Thrivealcoholrecovery.com

you're right about the labeling though. when i first went to aa, the label of powerless alcoholic would make me perhaps drink even more when i did. but the naltrexone isn't helping eiether

It’s really about powerlessness over the reaction once you consume alcohol not powerless over the first drink. AA gave me the power to go anywhere there’s Alcohol and I hardly ever crave it.

im drinking myself to death even with naltrexone i took naltrexone before drinking and i still am drinking to excess and it still feels good , i just do less stupid stuff when i take the naltrexone, but that actually makes me drink again sooner because there is no shameover

My heart breaks reading posts like this…. Alcoholism is a deadly disease. For late stage, chronic alcoholics, our only hope is abstinence. Keep giving AA a try since naltrexone isn’t working. It’s uncomfortable at first but if you stick with it it gets easier and you actually enjoy doing it.

You might be right that we know more about alcohol and you put the case well. The substance has not changed nor the effect, so for some of us acceptance, shared experience and engagement in trying to stay well is the only way to manage our lives after we stop. Love to all who suffer.
