Try as you may. AUD is a thing. The good news is there is a cure. Naltrexone and the Sinclair method.

My doctor is a DO and knew about nal and vivitrol. My last checkup we reviewed my progress and he said anytime in the future to call his office and he'll send more.

I’m 9 and a half months into TSM and have been having AF days but then I will drink thru the naltrexone when I do drink. I will continue to be compliant and trust the process…

Here's what to do when you need anything, whether it's a test or a treatment, from your Dr and they won't give it to you: I would like your refusal to give me what I'm asking for documented in my chart (or your child's chart, if that's who this is pertaining to). Then don't say anything. What will typically happen is that they'll leave the room for 5 minutes and then come back and give you whatever it is that you're requesting, because they do not want to be liable for that on insurance if it turns out you were right. Never forget, not only does your Dr and their medical staff work for you, so does your insurance company, and sometimes you have to squeeze them both at the same time to get what you need.

do you know anyone in Ireland who will prescibe it? I found a group in the UK who will prescribe it to a pharmacy in Northern Ireland and you can pick it up there, but I would prefer something in the same country. Also if you want the name of the UK group I can share it with you. God Bless and thank you for making me aware of this treatment!

My doctor is willing but doesn’t seem to want to follow the Sinclair Method. I have an appointment next week and they are suggesting I abstain from alcohol for 5 days prior to taking the medication. How can I convince them that I don’t want to quit abruptly before taking the medication and that I want to follow the Sinclair Method?
@thrivealcoholrecovery2 күн бұрын
Sometimes it’s hard to convince your doctor. I would suggest bringing in a paper about the Sinclair method, search on Google for this “Evidence about the use of naltrexone for different ways of using it to treat alcoholism.” Alternatively, inside our program we do have physicians we can refer you to who specialize in the Sinclair method as well. I’ll drop a link for you. www.thrivealcoholrecovery.com/

Getting sober before naltrexone his was available I had the same issue. Fairly confident this is an issue with anyone who have gotten sober, no matter the method. Thank you for bringing it light in an easy to understand way.

Wondering if the Vivitrol shot would be easier to make sure you have a consistent level of the drug in your system?

I was going to quit drinking or give naltrexone a shot. I tried naltrexone and ended up hating the side effects. Since I had started drinking again it was hard to willingly stop and ended up getting a DUI. The DUI put a lot in jeopardy including my job so I had to quit. The fear of not wanting to get another DUI has been the motivator to keep me sober which I have no choice but to do since since I exhausted my opportunities.

Crazy honest question for you. I've been sober for almost 4 months, and now with summer here, I'm really craving, especially the social and outdoor activities, like golf, canoeing and camping. All I've been told/taught that abstinence is the only way, and AA's not my thing, SMART's ok, but I'm just not into meetings. But that does nothing for cravings and triggers. Would it be insane for me to take Naltrexone (as instructed) just so I can at least enjoy a few cold beers after being dry for a decent length of time?
@thrivealcoholrecovery4 күн бұрын
I have seen others do this before. Of course, consider it carefully. Recognize also that this medicine isn’t an instant fix. You can still overdrink on it. But in my experience it works better the longer you take it.

@@thrivealcoholrecovery Thank you kindly for your prompt reply. I've watched your vids using the SM, and what really interests me is the fact that it seems to be able to re-set your brain. I know it takes time, and varies from person to person, but at the moment I'm what they call "white knuckling it" with the cravings, and a full blown relapse seems inevitable. Would be incredible to hit that point where I can just go, uh, I might be up for a couple cold ones, maybe not. And not obsess over it. My Dr already said he'd prescribe Naltrexone, but that's to control the cravings, not to use the SM. Thanks again.

In terms of our spiritual and emotional affect, i agree with not associating yourself with too much negative connotations, for the purpose of kickstarting the process of learning to treat yourself with love, and transforming the negative image you've placed on yourself, into something you would love and care for.
